Hello everyone! We have great news for our Australian players - RimWorld is once again available for purchase on Steam in Australia. This means Australians have access to the RimWorld Steam store page and can gift and receive Steam keys for the game. (It also means you can read this news update. šŸ˜‰) Everything should be back to normal!

For context: Back in February, the Australian Classification Board classified RimWorld as ā€œRefused Classification (RC)ā€ which banned the game from sale in Australia. This news was sudden and a surprise to everyone.

We appealed to the Classification Review Board and they agreed to review the game’s rating on April 20. We assembled a lot of useful evidence and had a great legal team to help us. Our community was also amazing and helped us by providing examples of games on Steam that had similar cases to us, like Disco Elysium and Fallout. The review concluded with a happy ending - RimWorld’s classification changed from ā€œRefused Classification (RC)ā€ to ā€œR 18+ ... Read more
Good news! RimWorld is now rated and legal to buy again in Australia. We'll have it back up on Steam soon. Thanks to everyone who lent their support. https://www.classification.gov.au/about-us/media-and-news/media-releases/rimworld-classified-r-18
Thanks for the help everyone! I think we got what we need.
What are examples of games which are rated by the Australian Board (https://www.classification.gov.au/) which include drug use, especially connected to player incentives? Seeking examples to bolster an ongoing case (right now).
@PirateGleeClub Elden Ring is exactly what you expect, at massive scale. If that's what you're after, it's awesome. Same with Kirby, though smaller scale. Very easy game though, appropriate for kids and ultra-casual.
@WarbroJavaCo dear god
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is in the same genre as Elden Ring fight me
RT @TiaPixel: šŸ“¢ Ludeon Studios (creator of RimWorld) is #hiring and looking for game designers and gameplay artists! ā˜„ļøDetails here: https…
@tezateser Tweet chains don't work; people retweet and target single tweets out of contexts. And the UI shouldn't force you to do something so ridiculous, which still prevents complex thoughts from forming. Blog posts work, but they require clicks to engage with so you lose most people.
Twitter increasing its character limit would be the easiest way to improve the quality of discourse (and thus thought) across our whole society. As it stand's it's a discussion platform that makes it almost structurally impossible to communicate nuanced ideas.
@Zizaran I was basically a child when I did, so not much reasoning was going on. I was just super interested, wanted to build stuff, loved playing games and thinking about game universes.
Game design is hard to learn because mistakes feel like victories. The signals of a mistake are hard to interpret and slow to arrive - often only coming years later. The try-fail-adjust-retry learning loop is crazy long - if it ever closes at all.
RimWorld developer Ludeon Studios is looking to hire a gameplay artist! Full info: https://ludeon.com/blog/work/

Good news! The Australian Classification Board it going to review their ruling which banned RimWorld from sale in Australia. We've got some legal professionals and expert witnesses helping out, so I'm optimistic. Thanks everyone for your support on this. https://www.classification.gov.au/about-us/media-and-news/media-releases/classification-review-announced-for-computer-game-rimworld

Still - I do not wish to have Steam automatically download all the subscribed workshop mods on my Steam Deck (that I do use on my PC) since like 200+ subscribed mods will easily flood the limited storage space of the Steam Deck.
Is there any way you know of or you can think of - how one could have separate mod download lists for the computer and Steam Deck respectively.

I think this is a feature request that would be good to direct at the steam deck devs. I have passed this on to our own devs as well though for them to review and consider. Read more
RimWorld has full Steam Deck support! I hope to see one of you playing it on the train soon. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/294100/view/3217267128219939595
Hello everyone!

It’s Tia - I’m back with update 1.3.3326 which brings full support for RimWorld on Steam Deck!

Before I get into the update, I wanted to share that our developer who was living in Ukraine is now safe in Germany. He’s staying with one of our former team members and we're doing what we can to help him get set up there. Thank you for all the kind comments and for thinking of our team. šŸ’›

Today’s update makes the Deck controls more intuitive, refines the touchscreen interface, improves the UI and keyboard, and adds an easy way to access the Deck's controller config options.

The Steam Deck requires that we use a new version of the Steamworks API which breaks compatibility with a few mods. To prevent breakages, three weeks ago, we released a public beta to give modders time to update, and we personally reached out to dozens of modders to help prevent mods from breaking. The known incompatibilities should be solved now - thanks to all modders who responded!
