Fortnite: Battle Royale Dev Tracker

Hey folks,
In addition to the v10.20 Content Update, we've made a few more changes in-game. Find out what you can expect below.

Weapons & Items

Vaulted
  • Combat Shotgun
  • Drum Shotgun
  • Proximity Launcher
Unvaulted
  • Suppressed Assault Rifle (Epic/Legendary)
Automatic Sniper
  • The Automatic Sniper was underperforming relative to some of the other Sniper Rifles. This adjustment to damage should make it more desirable as an alternative long-range weapon.
    • Increased damage from 31/33/35 to 40/42/44

Gameplay

B.R.U.T.E
Lowered the spawn rate of the B.R.U.T.E in Storm phases 3-6 in core modes. Arena spawn rates will remain unchanged.
  • With this change, we’re hoping to reduce the impact of B.R.U.T.Es on late-game scenarios, while retaining their presence in the early game.
    • Storm phase 3
      • New spawn rates
        • 33.3% chance to spawn 0
        • 33.3% chance to spawn 1
        • 33.3% chance to spawn 2
      • Old spawn rates
        • 25% chance to spawn 0
        • 25% chance to spawn...

Hey all,
The Turbo Build delay adjustments we made yesterday to subsequent structure pieces placed have been changed back to their previous value, 0.005* seconds. Your ability to perform “90s” and “waterfall” should feel exactly the same as it did before yesterday’s changes.
We’ve also added some of the “Next Steps” that were mentioned in yesterday’s Turbo Build Changes blog. Now when a structure is destroyed, there will be a delay of 0.15 seconds before another structure can be placed in the same location. If two or more players attempt to build a structure in the same location at the same time right after a piece has been destroyed, a random roll will now determine which player’s structure is placed. With this, we aim to reduce the impact that ping has on “taking a wall” as well as mitigate situations where spamming walls in the same location prevents all incoming damage to the defender.
What Changed?
  • Turbo Building timing for placing subsequent pieces changed back to 0.005* secon...

We asked you to provide some questions for us to kick off, and here are some of those answers:

Q: Will we get a POI namer in Creative?
A: Saw a design for this in reddit. Looks awesome. We’ll add it to the list of devices to build.

Q: Will we get an advanced terrain editor?
A: We have terrain editing on the list of tools we want to build. Ahead of it are better content brows...

We wanted to drop in and provide some context for the changes to the turbo build timer.

What Changed in v10.20?
We returned the time between subsequent Turbo Build placements from 0.005 seconds to 0.15 seconds in v10.20. This was the value used up to v4.30.
Why Change Turbo Build?
We did so as a first step addressing several problems:
  • Rapid Turbo Building favors players with low ping in disproportionate ways.
    • Taking walls (racing with another player to place a wall before them)
    • Turtling (continually rebuilding a wall that is taking damage)
  • Turtling disproportionately favors defender
    • E.g. holding mouse button vs. squad shooting at 1x1
  • Building piece placement accuracy
    • Easy to accidentally place multiple pieces “at once”
  • Spam building
    • Easy to spam build
    • We want building to be a bit more deliberate

What we don’t want to dramatically impact:

  • How responsive building feels
  • The ability to perform 90s
    • Rapidly gaining high ground by building...

Hey Fortnite Community,
Get ready to harvest in style!  We’re happy to announce that Pickaxes are coming to the Locker in Save the World with the v10.20 update. Pickaxe selection will be added to the Locker tab, giving you the ability to customize your harvesting tool with any Pickaxe in your collection, from both Save the World and Battle Royale.  Additionally, you’ll be granted cosmetic versions of every Pickaxe that you’ve unlocked in Save the World; these Pickaxes can be used in every game mode (i.e. Save the World, Battle Royale, Creative).
Pickaxes will have a few issues to start with, but over time we’ll resolve the following known issues:
  • When you select a Style for Pickaxes, the default Style is displayed in the Locker, rather than the style you selected.  However, this is purely visual and the correct style will be displayed when you are in zone.
  • The Banner Pickaxe Emblematic uses the banner icon and color you have selected in Battle Royale, not in Save the World.
  • Not all...

Heya Folks,
We have made several adjustments to the B.R.U.T.E., these changes are now live in all game modes and you do not need to download or patch your client.
We will also be temporarily disabling the Junk Rift for this weekend's FNCS tournament and Arena playlists until the 10.20 update.
B.R.U.T.E.
  • Decreased the maximum amount of rockets fired by the B.R.U.T.E. in a single charge from 10 to 6.
  • Decreased the rate at which the rockets are fired from the B.R.U.T.E. by 56%.
    • Our goal with these changes is to increase the back and forth between the users of the B.R.U.T.E. and the players they face. These changes allow the players on the receiving end of the missile volley to have more time to react and protect themselves.
  • Decreased the radius of the B.R.U.T.E.’s rocket explosion by 42%.
    • Our goal with this change is to improve consistency and understanding around focused barrages of missiles. B.R.U.T.E.s will continue to be a s...

Heya folks,
We’ve heard the frequent discussions (#RemoveTheMech) about the B.R.U.T.E., and decided this would be a good opportunity to explain the Fortnite philosophy. The mission of Fortnite is to bring players of all skill levels together to have a fun experience where anyone can win. For example - everyone having a shot at that first elimination or Victory Royale moment and the satisfying feeling that comes with it. Right now, we know there are players out there who have never had that opportunity.
Another part of the mission is to provide spectacle and entertainment when playing Fortnite. Bringing these moments to the game every week means there is always a new way to enjoy and experience the game.
The B.R.U.T.E. was added at the start of Season X with this mission in mind. Since then, we have seen players who had previously struggled with getting eliminations acquiring more, while the number of eliminations earned by more experienced players remained steady.
B.R.U.T.E. encounters... Read more
Fortnite Champion Series
The Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) kicks off next week and will be the next step in competitive Fortnite for 2019. Starting on August 17, there will be a three-round Trios event each weekend for five weeks. Similar to how we ran the Fortnite World Cup Online Opens, we will be advancing the top teams each week from each region to the Season X Finals. With the FNCS, however, we’ll also provide a new path to qualify for the Season Finals. Series Points will be awarded based on each team’s final placement every week during the FNCS to determine team placement on the Series Leaderboard. The top performers on this leaderboard will also advance to the Season Finals. This format values consistency over the course of the season, but still rewards the outstanding performance players make when competing in individual weeks. The Season Finals will be held online for each region on September 20 - 22 to determine who will be crowned the Season X Champions.
For Season X, we... Read more
Hey Everyone!
We’re back with another Save the World roadmap! We hope you all are dancing to your heart's content! Here’s a peek at some of the new highlights in the coming updates:

v10.10 (Week of 8/14)

  • Thunder Thora Returns!
    • Bringing the thunder to the ground!
  • Penny takes over the Van!
    • Join Penny as she Hits the Road as this weeks van driver.
  • SMG Weapon Type
    • We are adding a new weapon subclass: SMG’s. SMGs will become their own weapon type rather than sharing the assault rifles or pistol weapon type and will introduce more flexibility in gameplay as SMGs will work with a mixture of existing assault rifle and pistol Hero Perks.
    • For Heroes that have assault rifle / pistol perks that were NOT changed to work with SMGs, resets will be available in case players invested for a specific combination of Hero Loadout and Weapons.
    • Weapons that changed weapon type (becoming SMGs) will also have free resets in case players want to use a different weapon with their H...

Heya Folks,

Today we’re excited to launch the Fortnite Middle East server region!
TL;DR - We expect a range of ping improvements from 20-50% for many players across the southern Middle East (i.e. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain), as well as India.
What to expect today?
Our initial focus is on the Arabian Peninsula, where players in the region experience the highest ping. We expect most players in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia to see immediate improvements, as well as groups of players in other surrounding countries (depending on the city and ISP of choice). We’re going to continue improving performance as we roll out networking paths to additional providers.
In order to launch the new Middle East region, we’ve had to take the current SEA subregion servers offline. This is because removing the players who have better performance to the Middle East region does not leave sufficient population to support healthy matchmaking. For the majority of player... The mode for this inaugural Fortnite Champion Series will be Trios.
The action kicks off August 17. Over the course of five weeks, teams will fight for dedicated prize pools each Saturday and Sunday as well as a chance to qualify for the Season X Championship. The top teams in each server region will then face off on September 20, 21, and 22 where regional Season X Champions will be crowned.
What’s on the line?

Over 40 million players participated. Only the Fortnite World Cup Champions remain standing. The best Fortnite players in the world met in New York City July 26 - 28 to compete in the $30 million Fortnite World Cup Solo and Duos Finals, $3 million Creative Finals and $3 million Charity Pro-Am. This event was the culmination of 10 weeks of $1 million Online Open Qualifiers with more than 200 countries participating.

Over 19,000 fans attended the three-day Fortnite World Cup Finals in person at the sold-out Arthur Ashe Stadium. On Sunday during the Solo Finals, concurrent viewers peaked at over 2.3 million across YouTube and Twitch, making the Fortnite World Cup the most-watched competitive gaming event (excluding China) of all time. These numbers do not include fans watching in-game and on other streaming and social media platforms. We couldn’t have hosted such an event and showcased the top Fortnite players without your support. Thank you to the entire Fortnite community!

Hey Fortnite Friends,
We wanted to give everyone a heads up regarding some upcoming changes that we’re making to Wargames and Endurance mode. Let’s hop in:
Wargames and Endurance are here to stay in the next season and beyond as permanent game modes. With Season 9 coming to a close, seasonal tickets will no longer be offered as a reward for Wargames Daily Quests and Wargames Mission Rewards. We are also taking this time of transition to address some issues with Wargames and Endurance rewards.
At the start of the upcoming season, Mission Rewards for Wargames will be reduced so that consistently AFKing through Wargames is less appealing. To compensate for this change, the Daily Wargames Quests now give increased rewards specific to Stonewood, Plankerton, Canny Valley and Twine Peaks. In addition, the "Husk Swarm" challenge will be removed as this challenge was too easy to AFK.

  • Stonewood Daily Wargames Quests will reward additional Gold
  • Plankerton Daily Wargames Quests will reward...

Heya folks,
We released our v9.40 patch on all platforms on July 17th. Following this, we noticed a stability issue that affected iOS players. We worked to resolve this issue with the release of another patch, v9.40.1 on July 18th. Unfortunately, that patch caused further issues.
What happened?
After v9.40.1 was approved and released on the App Store, it was discovered that a critical patching error blocked players from downloading the patch correctly. This resulted in the following error message: “A file corruption has occurred. Please try again.”  After investigating, we found a workaround that included uninstalling and reinstalling the game. We understand this was not an ideal experience for players who were affected and decided to work on a make good.
What did we do to fix it?
Our team was able to resolve the error with a new patch, v9.40.2. This patch was available to all players on July 19th. Players who downloaded v9.40.1 and were affected by the patching error could now update... Read more
