Hey everyone!

We’re back with another Experimental mode focused on testing some changes to Baptiste, Mei, and a change in how we address health value adjustments. As with all Experimental modes, these changes are not guaranteed to reach the live version of the game.


What are we trying to address?

We’ve identified some weaknesses with Baptiste and Mei’s kits, which we’d like to address. Baptiste has been one of the lower-performing Support heroes recently. For Mei, we’ve found that reductions to her maximum ammo have had detrimental effects to her gameplay.

We’re also making some health adjustments to a number of heroes in increments of 25, rather than 50. Historically, we’ve always adjusted health and shield values in increments of 50 for ease of understanding how many hits a hero could take. After years of balance updates and fine tuning, we want to try getting a bit more granular with this approach.

What are we trying to address?

While we don’t have an overarching theme for today’s Experimental patch, we’re hoping to get your feedback on a handful of hero updates for under- and over-performing heroes. These changes are not intended to be hugely impactful to gameplay, but rather numbers adjustments that should improve some heroes’ performance.

What are we testing?

We’re making some adjustments to a number of under- and over-performing heroes. These changes are focused on improving performance of the following heroes:

Individual pellets within the shot will still have a tiny amount of variance to their firing angle for the sake of the shotgun weapon feel, but this change will provide significantly more control over aiming these weapons.

Season 24 of Competitive Play is here!

Unlocked at level 25, Competitive Play is designed for those players who want to put their skills to the test, and offers a more serious experience than our Quick Play or Arcade Modes.


GETTING STARTED

Before you can kick off your competitive career, every player will be required to complete five placement matches in a selected role to obtain their seasonal skill rating for that role. Within the standard Role Queue competitive mode, players will earn separate skill ratings (SR) for each role in Competitive Play, for a total of three distinct SRs. This rating will be a number between 1 and 5000, with higher values indicating a greater skill level. Players will also be assigned a tier per role based on their rating—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, or Grandmaster – and climbing into the next tier is possible as you improve. Developer Comments: In an environment with less pervasive barriers, some Damage heroes have become increasingly lethal. As such, we’re now looking to reduce damage outputs accordingly. As a cascading effect, this also introduces a need to reduce healing outputs for some Support heroes, as there’s less damage being dealt overall.
