First time tuning in today to see if all the negativity was deserved or not, and honestly I think it was.
Game 1, the broadcast was already 5-10 minutes behind, and all that was before it was that segment with Hai, Jack, and Steve and an analysis. I put the game on before I had work and was sad that it was already behind schedule... And it was game 1.
I had to work, but I could only imagine all the other games being set off different times. I think the community wouldn't care so much if the timetable was adjusted... Game 1 5, game 2 615 etc, its frustrating to have a schedule and be behind.
We're working to adjust the schedule for game 1, which is the game we can control. After that it really depends on how the games go. If they are fast they will be ahead of schedule, if they are slow they will be behind. This is true of most of the other leagues around the globe as well.
Hey there,
We hear the pain around transition times, and are actively working to shorten them as much as we can. There have already been pretty drastic improvements between week 3 and week 4, and today we saw improvements on top of that. The problem isn't "solved" but we're working on it. As some people have already commented in this thread, the additional delays are a result of COVID sanitation protocols.
Thanks for your continued patience and support. Coming back into studio has had it's tradeoffs, but so far we think the good has outweighed the bad, and we hope you think so too.
Read moreWe won't be doing this for every single game, but all of us on the production team love getting more insight from players and we're hoping to continue doing this regularly.
We want to get coaches involved too!
Did the LCS stop taking reddit comments for the broadcast? interesting. Wonder why lol
It's new tech and we're still learning how to consistently implement it in the best way. We're still on the lookout for reddit comments.
huh, that makes sense. I hadn't thought about it that way, but as someone who loved the lounge casts when someone like Meteos was on, it makes sense why these co-streams are working so well (and definitely appreciate having the extra freedom).
I am still sad we lost the fog of war casts though (and pro-view after that).
Once we're back in studio, we can be more flexible with our capabilities. Pro-View will definitely be returning.
I think theres obviously a balance. Trash talk makes it fun, and since the tweets are pretty intrusive I feel like there should be more effort into making them more diverse. I think at least a decent number of people would agree with this. Otherwise it might as well be a bot sending messages with words from a random pool. Having positive messages isn't a bad thing, but if every message is positive it doesn't add anything to the broadcast, and kinda distracts from the whole thing.
An example is the tweet about the dude not wanting tsm to lose cuz it was his birthday. That had a bunch of actual emotion in it that people could feel, and it clearly was a popular tweet. Maybe if you don't want trash talk, show some of the more desperate tweets or anything other than the 'I'm so happy, good luck to both teams, can't wait to support both teams' sort of stuff.
All my opinion obviously with no stats to back it up. I just think it has so much potential to boost team rivalries and make the overall LCS more fun.
Totally agree. As people get familiar with having tweets on broadcast, I hope it encourages more fans to submit so we can highlight lots of unique and creative messages.
I don't know if you are allowed to say this, but can you show tweets that are trash talking or would that be against sponsor rules? I feel like the tweets could be really fun if they weren't all so 'positive' if that makes sense. Maybe tweets like, 'TL will 100% throw this lead' or something like that. It will make the twitch chat more fun IMO, and will likely feel more real
If I have a choice between a supportive tweet that is hyping up the teams and players, or one that is being negative or heckling them, I'm going to pick the positive one most of the time.
Yeah, casting is hype and I like watching with it, but holy shit the tricast of Meteos, Sneaky, and Doublelift is so insightful and provides so much information about professional play/high level gameplay.
Back in the day LCS had lounge casts, and co-streams are really the evolution of that. The idea was always to have pro players just chatting about the game, but achieving an authentic tone on a Riot broadcast was problematic (for obvious reasons). This is really is the best of both worlds, and I'm glad this outlet exists for fans.
LCS DOES dip into tri-casts, flowers/azael/Kobe is definitely not unheard of. I’m assuming because of spacing and social distancing issues they couldn’t get a tri-cast for the finals but I actually have no idea.
You are correct.
They are likely tweeted 10-15 minutes before being broadcast. If I had to bet, it was tweeted when the score was 4-1 or something, or maybe even in game 1.
No not that slow. They are delayed, though. Obviously we need to screen tweets to make sure they are PG-13, which takes some time. Properly encoding the stream to ensure a high quality signal also takes processing time, so viewers on twitch and youtube see the game with ~2min of delay compared to the production team live on site, so even the fastest tweets will still be a couple minutes old.
Perk of being in LA is definitely proximity to this kind of talent. It's a shame we only get a handful of these super well-polished videos a year.
There will be more! Vaccine rollout is picking up speed in California, which will unlock our ability to do a lot more LCS content as we get closer to summer!
This will probably go mostly unappreciated overall, but credit to Riot for expending the energy and resources to find the LA Coliseum as a live venue. As someone living in LA County and attuned to the availability of live venues, I'm 90% sure that they found the needle in the haystack securing the place for this weekend.
Having to compete amongst MANY parties pushing the envelope to get activity going now that we're this close to the metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel is impressive, especially considering we're also close to seasonal events like school commencement ceremonies. USC has been and will be making great use of the Coliseum because the fixed seating there allows them to be one of the few venues in the county that is eligible for re-opening.
The venue is actually The Greek Theater in Griffith Park!
I’m forever a Nhat Nguyen fan. I once absolutely fed my ass off on his team in solo queue, and he was super gracious and not at all toxic. Most of the old pros were like that back around S2-S3. RIP.
Fun fact: Nhat is still in the scene and is one of the directors on the LCS. Can confirm he is still super chill!
IDK how stats websites etc. account for this, but on broadcast we try to specifically exclude fasting Senna games from bot laners when talking about CSD.
Really excited to do more and more in the studio as it becomes (more) safe to do so. This is only the beginning.
As you can clearly ;) see in the screenshot, that application is called chronokeeper and has a different function than chronobreak.
You many have noticed that our in-game overlay scoreboard is completely different from the spectator mode overlay, and chronokeeper helps us keep time/stats synced between the observer feed and our custom scoreboard.
Hey there, the LCS playlist has enough songs that they shouldn't repeat very often, if at all, in a given day. With that said, the playlist is on a shuffle and we might get unlucky sometimes.
I'll look into other ways we can mitigate repeated tracks. Appreciate the feedback, and thank you for watching!
What part of "HEAD OVER TO OUR MAIN CHANNEL" was unclear?
In fairness, I can see how people read that and then thought "but I'm watching on lolesports.com, what other main channel is there?" We're tweaking the language a bit to be more clear. It's obvious when you watch on twitch.tv/riotgames, but less obvious when you watch through lolesports.
