Performance

  • Greatly improved the performance of the terrain system by rewriting shaders, achieving a gain of at least 10 FPS for most zones in our testing.
    • This testing was done on Windows 10 with a Ryzen 5 1600 and RX 480 8GB. The game was ran at 1080p borderless window and Medium quality settings.
  • Greatly improved garbage collection, which is a major source of frame rate stutter. Garbage collection is when unneeded data is cleared from memory. This is now required less often, and the process itself has less performance impact.
  • You can now limit the game’s framerate to a value you specify to reduce how many resources the game takes, particularly when streaming.
  • The framerate of the game can now be limited while it’s in the background (tabbing out).
  • Load times have been improved, particularly in zones with many NPCs.
  • Death visuals for enemies are now pooled. This improves framerates and stutter in combat, especially against void and skeleton enemies.

  • We’ve looked at Dynamic Resolution, and we’ll likely look at it again at some point in future. Unfortunately, as we support multiple Operating Systems and multiple graphics APIs, there is not a straightforward way for us to implement this feature.
  • We already use Deferred Rendering.
  • The Acolyte class will be getting additional DoT skills soon. :slightly_smiling_face:

We’ve been able to reproduce the social panel getting it wrong, and it’s something we plan to look at in future - I wouldn’t be surprised if it was rewritten from the ground up - but currently we’re very busy and it’s not something we’ve been able to allocate time for just yet.

Our testing has involved both the standalone client and the Steam client - and they’ve been about equally unreliable, which is one reason I don’t believe the issue is related to Steam.

I agree; I think it’s safe to say that this particular UI element will be changed at some point.

The number shows how far you’ve risen in the class. Base classes only go up to 20.
