No Man's Sky Dev Tracker

Hello!
Following hot on the heels of the massive Worlds Part II[www.nomanssky.com] update back in January which introduced a whole range of visual enhancements, gameplay additions and quality of life improvements, the small No Man’s Sky team have let their imaginations run wild and been having a lot of fun playing around with something really whimsical but remarkably transformative for what is possibly our most surprising update yet. We’re calling it RELICS[www.nomanssky.com] and it is available to download free to existing players from today. Full patch notes are available here[www.nomanssky.com].
Since launch, because of the way that No Man’s Sky’s planetary terrain works, No Man’s Sky players have enjoyed being able to dig down through the earth to find buried technologies or other valuable items hidden beneath their feet. From today, players will start to find a whole new category of palaeontological finds - the skeletal remains of alien creatures which used to inhabit these worlds... Read more

Hello Everyone!
Over the last few months, alongside previous content updates like Living Ship[www.nomanssky.com] and Exo Mech[www.nomanssky.com], we’ve been busily working on something else in secret.
Do you have a friend on another gaming system with whom you’ve always wanted to explore the great unknown? A legendary base you’ve seen videos of but never been able to visit? A mission that you think would be great to play with friends on other platforms?
We are excited to be able to announce that, starting tomorrow, PlayStation 4 players, Xbox One players and PC players will all be able to explore, journey, survive, build, and trade together. Excitingly, No Man’s Sky is joining what is at the moment a fairly small group of games which support cross-platform multiplayer.
A tremendous amount of work has gone into this update and the underlying technology and systems. We’ve moved to an entirely new networking architecture, with more flexibility for the future, allowing players to play together... Read more

Hello everyone!
A few weeks ago, we released our first update of 2020 - the LIVING SHIP[www.nomanssky.com]. Today we are back with another free update for No Man’s Sky. Introducing the EXO MECH update!
The Minotaur Exocraft is a unique new exocraft / suit hybrid, and introduces a different way to explore planets.
This mechanical walker shields its pilot against hostile extraterrestrial atmospheres, providing immunity against hazards such as radioactivity and extreme temperatures.
Its special defining feature, though, is the freedom of movement it affords. The Minotaur’s powerful jetpack allows it to soar powerfully through the air, and land on terrain with a satisfying slide. We think it’s a lot of fun to stomp around in!
In addition to the Minotaur, the Exo Mech update brings a number of useful new exocraft technologies to the game, several quality of life improvements for base building, graphical enhancements, and much more.
It would feel strange not to acknowledge the state of the wor...

Hello!
2019 was an important year for No Man’s Sky. It was the year we brought the entire game into VR and much expanded multiplayer in the free BEYOND[www.nomanssky.com] update. Everyone who owned the game was overnight able to play the entire game in virtual reality and it has been extremely cool to see VR and non-VR players joining up in the Nexus to explore, embark on missions and build bases together.
We followed Beyond with two more content updates last year, SYNTHESIS[www.nomanssky.com] and BYTEBEAT[www.nomanssky.com], and we are starting 2020 as we mean to go on with another free release - the LIVING SHIP[www.nomanssky.com] update releasing today.
The Living Ship update introduces the first new starship since ATLAS RISES[www.nomanssky.com]. But this is more than just a ship - these are strange and beautiful creatures with lives of their own. A new series of missions will take players through the ancient Korvax experiments that led to the birth of these interstellar beings. Playe...

Hello Everyone!
Hopefully this is a bit of a nice festive surprise for folks. We have released a neat update today, adding a full audio creation application to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it the ByteBeat Device!
We’ve made a brief trailer to demonstrate the potential of the feature, but as always, we’re sure that you the community will take it and run with it in all sorts of unexpected directions.

Credit to community creators DjMonkey, G_Man_D, Nukie000, Whimblo and ActionPantsGaming for the bases featured in this trailer.
Base building is a big part of what people spend their time doing in our game, and a frequent request is for the ability to add sounds and music to their construction. Our team always likes a creative challenge, and audio is one of our big passions. Over the last few weeks one of our coders got obsessed with making an audio creation tool for the community, we were so excited about it we thought it’d be a nice surprise to release it.
We love playing around with music toy... Read more

Hello Everyone! There’s been a lot going on since our last development update. The team has been working hard to bring you bug fixes and quality of life improvements, with a huge number of things fixed in the three updates since our last blog post.
You’ve all been hard at work too: producing amazing artwork; building spectacular bases; and unlocking the first community goal of Beyond, a brand new Vy’keen-inspired suit of armour. Even now, you’re making great progress on the second event to unlock the likenesses of Travellers Gemini, Mercury and Ares.
Patch 2.15 releases today on all platforms. It introduces a number of new features to bring the community together and highlight the amazing work you do: a showcase for the best community bases, and brand new weekly missions.
Weekend Missions Very shortly, the Space Anomaly’s first weekend mission will go live. Nada’s spacetime loom has detected a concerning pattern resonating across the universe, and they need help from their explorer fri... Read more
Hello Everyone! It has been a few weeks since our last development update[www.nomanssky.com], and we wanted to share a little more news from the studio. You can read the full post here[www.nomanssky.com].
The team here are still working intensely to address high-priority issues, as well as to improve the overall polish and quality of life of the game. Update 2.12 has been released today, with the long list of fixes and improvements available at the end of this post. However, we also have a larger feature to announce…

Each mission completed at the Nexus will contribute to a cross-reality target for all Travellers. Universal progress will unlock a series of exotic items synthesised by Polo’s robotic companion, available to purchase with Quicksilver.
As with every update, all this new content is completely free for all existing players – there are no microtransaction... Read more
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to BEYOND!
Well, where do we start?
After the NEXT update in July 2018, we started work on a series of smaller, more focused updates. You saw the first of these with our Exocraft rework, with Abyss and with Visions. We’re very proud of these updates, but we realised that by focusing on one area at a time we were missing out on the chance to making something bigger. And so here we are, nearly a year later, with the results.
The early work on virtual reality got us really excited and convinced us that we couldn’t just tick the box. The chance to truly experience an alien world, to be totally lost in these strange lands – it was an utterly perfect fit for the dream at the heart of our game. The chance was there to do something very special which could set a new benchmark for VR.
Meanwhile, the multiplayer team had conceived of a whole new social hub – The Nexus – which enables you to meet up with friends (VR and non-VR alike), explore together, build bases together, c... Read more
Hello!
Thank you for your patience. Our biggest update yet launches in a little under a week on August 14th and we couldn’t be more excited to share this trailer with you, showing off the massively expanded online component of Beyond for the first time.
BEYOND is the culmination of 12 months of work on what was originally going to be 3 large separate updates.
The more we got into development however, the more those individual pieces started to coalesce and become interdependent on each other.
Virtual Reality is cool and a major undertaking for a procedurally generated universe, but virtual reality becomes all the more enjoyable and immersive when you’re playing with friends, be they VR players or not.
Bringing the social multiplayer enhancements we wanted to make together with VR seemed not only desirable and natural but unstoppable.
Remember that everything you see in our launch trailer can be experienced in VR if you have a headset.
We'll be telling you a little more about some other el... Read more
Hello Everyone,
We know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on No Man’s Sky. We’re very excited to be able to share more information from behind the scenes.
Our next chapter No Man’s Sky: Beyond, is coming on August 14th!
Beyond will contain three major updates rolled into one larger free release. These changes are a mix of features we’ve been dreaming of for a while, and a reaction to how we have seen folks playing since the release of NEXT.
An expanded Online experience will bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.
Meanwhile VR support will bring the entire game experience to life in virtual reality. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented c... Read more
Hello Everyone,
We’re very excited to be able to tell you more about No Man’s Sky: Beyond. A major free update coming in summer 2019 and the next big chapter in our journey.
Beyond is the culmination of several different strands of development. The first component, No Man’s Sky Online[www.nomanssky.com], was announced a few weeks ago. A dramatically updated multiplayer experience means players will be able to explore and play together like never before.
Today we’re thrilled to announce the next major component of Beyond: No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality[www.nomanssky.com].
As creators of No Man’s Sky, we are in love with everything sci-fi. Virtual reality feels like a science fiction become real, and has always seemed like a perfect fit for this futuristic game of ours.
It’s completely unique to land on a world that no-one has ever seen before and to really feel as if you’re there, and the team has worked so hard to make this a true VR experience rather than a port.
Grab the joystick and thruste... Read more

Hello Everyone,
We know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on No Man’s Sky. We wanted to share some information from behind the scenes.
Our next chapter will be called No Man’s Sky: Beyond, coming Summer 2019.
Each chapter for No Man’s Sky has been more successful than the last. Thanks to our community, NEXT our large release last year was especially so. It went on to bring enjoyment to millions of new players, and it helped to change the legacy of this game we care so much about.
Earlier this year, whilst working on our roadmap of three future updates, we decided we wanted to interweave their features, and had a vision for something much more impactful.
We are excited to announce that Beyond will contain those three major updates rolled into one larger free release.
The first component of Beyond we are announcing today is No Man’s Sky Online.
No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers playe... Read more

Hello Everyone!
It's already been a very busy month for us! Today we are releasing a new update for No Man's Sky, which includes a new Community Research mission, more customisable flora for your base, a terrarium, a striking new Gek-inspired helmet, and a number of minor gameplay fixes and improvements. More on that below.
You may also have heard that last week we announced The Last Campfire[thelastcampfiregame.com] - an adventure about a search for meaning and a way home, developed by a tiny subset of our small team. We're yet to announce platforms, but the game is available to wishlist on Steam now.
Community Research Update
Earlier this month, many thousands of Specialist Polo's friends worked together, across multiple realities, to contribute floral discoveries to a mass data pool. Biological information about alien plants was funneled into the Space Anomaly, and ultimately into the Quicksilver Synthesis Bot, where the data was processed in... Read more

Hello Everyone!
It's now been a week since we released Visions[www.nomanssky.com], and we're so happy to see players discovering and enjoying the new colour palettes, exotic landscapes, flora and fauna, and new rare items and curiosities to collect! We think we've succeeded in enhancing the sci-fi aesthetic of No Man's Sky, and making the universe a little bit stranger - something we hope to continue doing in the future.
Today, we are releasing a patch to address a few gameplay and stability issues. We also wanted to write a small development update to highlight some community activity and reflect on the status of the ongoing two-week research mission.
Community Research Update
Specialist Polo and Priest Entity Nada have detected another shift in the fabric of realities - an aftershock of the universal regeneration that occurred only a few months ago. Dead planets have awakened and twisted into strange new environments, and Polo invites their ex... Read more
Hello Everyone!
It’s quite amazing to look back and realise that since July this year we have released over a dozen free updates for No Man’s Sky.
NEXT[www.nomanssky.com] was our largest update ever, introducing third person play, multiplayer, massive enhancements to base building, frigate fleets, and much more. Then in October, we added the Pilgrim exocraft[www.nomanssky.com] and made a number of general improvements to exocraft - including customisation, and a new buildable summoning station. Later that same month, we released another update - The Abyss[www.nomanssky.com] - that focused on eerie underwater visuals and gameplay, adding new environments, story missions, the Nautilon submarine, and more.
We’re never quite sure what to expect when we release these updates, and the positive response from the community means so much to us. It’s an essential part of our journey to listen and respond to the voices of our most passionate players, and so a little over a month ago, we created a su... Read more
