Awesome!! Do you know why observers sucked last worlds? Even with the small delay, they didn't do a great job.

No idea honestly! Usually eu and na observers work together on these big events for the english feed at least, but neither of us did last year :D

So you have one screen on directed camera and then one you control on another screen 3 seconds behind? Do you also have the casters audio so you can do things like stats or gold?

Yes that's how i do :D I don't have casters on for Worlds since our feed goes out to every single region, so i'm staying neutral to all casters! I just try to flash the gold instead on a regular interval.

In LEC however, i love catering to everything the casters want to talk about :)

ericswift

So how do replays work? Do you just rewind one of the screens and then flip to that one or something?

Correct, observer 2 just uses the timeline to go back to the play and then we swap to his screen.

puso82

Nah, they've learned not to do live observing, there's a small delay to adjust to plays.

I noticed in a previous game, the observers randomly focused a ward, and suddenly a teleport came through, they knew and have a team telling them where to point the camera.

It's the same delay it's been for years, though :/ Aka as close to live as possible but without being live or you'd experience stutters!

ericswift

They have 2 observers and the one we see is about 1 minute behind. When something cool happens observer 1 tells observer 2 what time be ready for

I like how my 3 seconds delay became a 1-minute delay according to people PepeSad

ericswift

I'm just repeating what someone who helped observe for some mi or league for riot - good to know it's only 3 seconds!

Also incredible what you can do with only 3 seconds of heads up

It's funny because you're not the first one to say it, I've seen multiple mentions of it! :D

I'm also using the direct camera mode on a second screen to show me what happens instead of having someone tell me what to do :) (It's easier for my personal focus if i don't have to rely on someone else making calls)

This obviously sucks big time even as an observer. We had a new technical issues today that has never happened before! Meaning that the PiP ended up taking both the corner and the main-screen which is normally not even possible to replicate :( But it was identified and fixed! Sorry for poor experience :(

Pretty interesting. So one of you has to look at the entire game at once? That's a lot to process at the same time!

Yess, but my obs 2 is basically watching with me since he can't do much either until the action starts. Plus i have my direct camera pc next to me that is 3-4 seconds ahead, showing me everything that will happen right before it happens on my screen - This is my most important helper and probably the monitor i look at most of the time haha :)

Wolfeur

How do observers split the tasks, actually? Are they all watching the entire thing, or are they split by lane, or by player? Is it decided on the go, or is it attributed?

1 observes the whole live game + base race / trade cam.

1 does the replays + Picture in Pictures in the corner for tps or other action + base race / trade cam.

1 does the backup replays in case something happens to the other observer and just focuses on making analyst desk replays & sick broll clips for the end of day broll ^

Calls are made on the go if i urgently need my obs 2 to PiP something i can't get to, otherwise he just PiPs up stuff that is interesting to watch while i can't move away from my spot.

LetMeOmixam

I'm impressed the observers caught it

I'm the main observer and i didn't even know it was happening, my obs 2 just reacted insanely quick haha!

Bdodk2000

I think observers get a heads up on where to focus because the game is on delay.

If 3 seconds counts as a delay haha :D

Aythriel

the observers are smurfing this msi.

Thank you <3

Who is responsible for observing? LEC guys? Night, and day compered to worlds

Mixed team of EU and NA ❤️

baylithe

LEC Observers need to have a damn seminar for all other regions on how to observe. You guys are the best.

Aah haha thank you <3

When you need to add programs to a game to add a zoom in and zoom out to replays, which is something that let's say Halo 3 had in it's Theater Mode, which came out in 2007, shows how far behind Riot is. I get it, it's cool there's a way to do it now, but it should be something that is already apart of the replays instead of a 3rd party application.

Extended zoom exists in the game client itself and has never needed external programs to work :/

xNesku

I remember a while back the observer for NA was high Diamond. I'm not sure about EU, but KR has Master level spectators. If you're higher elo than you're going to naturally sense where the fights are going to take place. Also really minor details that can be super important to highlight for the viewers. The more game knowledge you have, the better you are as an observer.

People in my soloq's usually think I'm from the balance team, does that count? :(

He started out as a pro player for Team Alternate and was then invited to cast S2 worlds for the German stream, he cast for the German stream for a while after Team Alternate split and when that closed down he was invited to become the first observer EU LCS had! :D

This is really well showcased!
