Based on what I've seen, this seems to only be affecting accounts with usernames only and not emails, hopefully we get an official confirmation on this.
EDIT: Worth editing to mention that in the time since I posted this initially it seems to also impact email login users as well, Jagex have an article up confirming their investigating here as well as /u/JagexJD's comment [here].(https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/h8i13r/possible_database_leak_at_jagex_stay_safe/fusi3ox/?context=3)

I'd hardly argue I'm a die-hard apologist and you can check my recent posts on that
But on what are you basing "The Jmods who work on RS are ridiculously good" also on? Is it "they work hard", "are passionate", "are good programmers"? Having a grasp of a couple concepts of good programming concepts is also important and knowing when to use them, stuff like design patterns, the SOLID and DRY principles are very good examples of this.
So who would have thought that 6 years later after EoC, the player title system was written so badly and in an unsafe manner that it even could corrupt player safe files, that it had to be disabled and be rewritten from scratch?
Being a developer isn't only a job, it's constant learning from new technologies and adapting them. Every company does it differently and Unity is no exception. I am sure you may be aware of Unity also adapting and being innovative, like the Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS) within Unity, which required to rebuild a hefty chunk of the game's engine for the better.
This is what I lack from the devs. They usually don't do things for the better or rather the longevity for the game. At some point developing any kind of content will take weeks and weeks due to technical debt, while maybe years ago this could have been just a couple hours. It's doesn't matter if it's legacy code or spaghetti code, cause even we programmers came up with design pattern to help with rebuilding a part that's legacy or spaghetti code, it's called the strangler pattern. As the name suggest it's build on top of the old code, replacing like bits and pieces until there's no more legacy/spaghetti code, effectively strangled as there's only modern code now.
With such kind of devs a player model rework or a more generic way to go with dyeing armour or weapons could actual feel really close. With the current I do not feel this way, they may be passionate, but if old remains old and buggy and new feels 50/50 buggy isn't also a great player experience. A lot of stuff feels outdated while brand new content/area's is pumped out, which shows a lot of inconsistencies with the game, south Falador, Varrock or Ardgoune farm are prime examples.
Absolutely agree, I'm basing it on the devs because I feel like they're doing good stuff in the background but whatever comms are on-going is halting the progress of showing/talking about it, the silence is a problem right now for sure.
The Jmods who work on RS are ridiculously good
I hear you say this but I havent seen the proof. They give quite the opposite impression...
And what are you basing this on?
I'm all for constructive feedback but let's be real here
either jmods are severly slacking off at home and not doing any actual work or i dont know,
I'd very much disagree with this, it's likely they are doing some stuff but for some reason they're not allowed to talk about it. The Jmods who work on RS are ridiculously good at it, and don't get near enough credit for how much they have to actually deal with when it comes to the game.
I can agree with some comms being off, etc because I'd love to know when's the next big update and I loved keeping up with BTS, showcase streams, etc but I'm pretty sure Jagex know this from posts and are hopefully trying to sort something around it.

Better nerf irelia
Getting some serious LoL Season 2 vibes here
I feel like this is almost a repeat of last year.
At the time we delivered a nerf and didn't properly communicate why, in the case for the Div-o-Matic, it'd be ideal to know specifically why it's considered to be over-performing.
I mean, their talking to the players era was a disaster too. But pathetic is the only word to describe right now. I would be fired from any job I ever had if I communicated with my consumers the way jagex does.
their talking to the players era was a disaster too.
Personally, the only disastrous bits from that was overpromising as a result of talking up projects, etc then when stuff got shelved or missed dates it became a problem, but I'm pretty confident in saying being honest and transparent was always received in one way or another.
I've got a slightly different angle on that then you do. The problem wasn't overpromising but shelving too much content. They spend so much development time on 3 M&S reworks, a complex tiered comp cape revamp and a pretty detailed weapon diversity upgrade but all that was nullified when the updates just got pulled.
I kinda alluded to that above when I mentioned shelving, but yeah that didn’t help the cause either :(
This won't help you but... use this as anger and motivation?
Can't fault AFK thieving in Prif, easy materials and guaranteed GP drops!
I've looked at this several times over the years and every time i get overwhelmed by the requirements. I have slowly been taking baby steps towards prif though, might take another 10 years but i'll get there eventually.
No rush, as long as you enjoy the path there right? :D
I appreciate this but we need to look at this from a wider viewpoint.
Note: Before I dive into this please note I don't have time to see everything on-going on RS nowdays so I probably have missed stuff.
Based on what I've seen from Orion, there's now a different approach to how comms are done for issues, this isn't a bad thing whatsoever and I feel like RS is in such a unique time where they need time to find their feet.
I have to state that my way of doing comms wasn't exactly "officially" the way to do it, but I tried to look at things as a player and to me transparency was the way.
Truth be told when I first joined the RS team my knowledge was awful, I was plopped on an Invention launch stream and I just didn't know anything and felt woeful at being able to answer stuff.
I love playing this game and still try to do so each day and growing up learning the game while representing it was a pleasure to do so.
Personally I do wish we had a bit more...

I don't really know what's actually coming up, there's been no BTS' to tell me what I can expect ... I feel like in times like this, more than ever transparency is so so crucial and I'd like to see more hard hitting streams, especially because it feels like it's way too quiet in regards to what should be the next "main" update.
Surely you are aware this is a tad hypocritical? Similar things happened in previous years when you worked for Jagex and you were dismissive of criticism/spouted the party line. Now you are acknowledging criticism about transparency ect.
Feels a little fake.
EDIT - Downvoting me without comment will really make change my mind :P
I’d argue against this personally, I always pushed for transparency around all things I did because to me that’s the way to go.
I still stand by my point regarding BTS’ and general comms, even back in the expansion lull in 2017 we at least tried to tackle it head on.
Alrighty, having been on the other side here's my two cents.
From what I can see, like /u/5-x has said, the game seems to be going back to the expansion style approach that the game tried to do back in 2017 (Menaphos) which was get more Ninjas, fill the weeks with patch weeks, events, and the occasional new thing until we get to the new release which hurt, even more so when the expansion model was canned after Menaphos.
In that time it helped just to keep comms going and it was tough, but it made for a fun challenge and I think times like that is where creativity pays off.
Archaeology is a fantastic update and deserves the love and praise it gets, the post-release support as well has been great and everyone involved smashed it.
The Ninja Stirkes have been great at doing great QoL and getting excited for updates, the Grand Exchange stuff looks superb.
Personally I don't have much time to keep up with the news on RS nowadays, but I don't really know what's actually c...

I think it's a good change!
This issue was the bane of my life since 2016 when I worked for Jagex, we got some improvements here and there but it's a shame to hear you're still having issues :(
Fingers crossed for you all!
