Just because I’m curious, is there a specific reasoning for it always booting and there not being an optional toggle?

E.g. I’m fine with having to restart my pc to turn it on for a session of league or valorant - but I play them 2-3 days a week so I don’t want to have to manually disable it in startup options or right click close it in my drivers tray every boot.

There's some difficulties in implementing a toggle of that nature (I'm sure one of my more technical colleagues could speak to the effort involved, but an example that springs to mind is how to reliably tell a program to generally not launch on boot, except next time I reboot please do.")

I think if this is how you'd want to interact with Vanguard (which is great if it will help you feel authoritative about what you're comfortable with!), probably currently the avenue I'd suggest is to actually Uninstall Vanguard when you're not planning on playing LoL for a few days - it's also just a right click away (Right Click > More > Uninstall Vanguard > Confirm).

Then the next time you Launch LoL, Riot Client will prompt you to install Vanguard. Happily, the download + install is SUPER quick (my entire Riot Vanguard folder is 43 MB), so this flow actually wouldn't add much time to your get-in-game, as the reboot itself will probably be the longest part if you have broadband internet.

So will this startup by default every time I restart my PC? Or will I have to turn it on, switch something on, and then restart?

After installing, any time you reboot your PC it'll just boot alongside it, no extra steps needed unless you want to turn it off or uninstall.

Much appreciated Riot Man! I'm more comfortable playing League with anti-cheat system now and it's even better that I'm afforded some control over Vanguard.

If there's anything you'd recommend we NOT do (aside from straight up cheating) while running League, please also let us know. I assume Vanguard looks at activities while the client/game is running, but sometimes between matches or during queues Id be doing work stuff on another screen. If my work stuff is something that can be captured by Vanguard while the game is running, then yea I'd have to stop doing that.

Regardless, thanks for taking the time to reassure my thoughts on this 🙏

While I'm sure the work you do is cool, unless you're creating cheats, or you're like loading libraries into League or something, Vanguard will be totally disinterested :)

In case you didn't get to the bottom of the article, Phillip touches on what kinds of data Vanguard looks at here:

Riot only collects what we need to run and secure our games. More data is just more risk for us, and we don't want anything except the bare minimum required to get the job done. Locally, Vanguard has system hooks to run its protections, but we're not shipping back your files or documents. Like most anti-malware and anti-cheat systems, we leverage a technique called "Signature Scanning," to determine if a series of bytes in memory matches a known cheating application. The results of these are only true or false (it was present or it wasn't), and we try to use this pattern for other checks too. Things like, "are you currently using a DMA device" or "did an application just try to submit input to the g...

but is there no way to turn it off whilst you're not playing. i haven't read the article yet, but i am not comfortable having an anti-virus that is enabled at all times for zero reason.

but is there no way to turn it off whilst you're not playing.

You can right click Vanguard in your system tray and select Exit Vanguard.

LifeIsToughEatBacon

How many clicks to turn it off each time I reboot? Just as a best-practices thing I'm not a huge fan of having 3rd party kernel-level drivers on my PC, so I'll be turning it off whenever I'm not actively playing league.

Right click Vanguard in System Tray

Click Exit Vanguard

Click Yes

Those are the steps to disabling Vanguard when you're not using it. It's intentionally easy to disable (and even Uninstall is virtually the same flow) to help make folks like yourself feel in control of what they're comfortable with.

Can you comment on if it blocks AutoHotkey? I've had anti cheats like Faceit block AHK from running, which is pretty annoying due to how much non-game related stuff like mic mute hotkeys I have running with it

For league WSL2 should be ok for the time being.

schoki560

is there any info on faceit anticheat and vanguard conflicting each other?

i often play a game of CS and then insta go into tft or vice versa

would I have to restart my pc to play a game of league cause I have the other AC activated?

We don't anticipate any issues for you in this case. You shouldn't have to reboot your PC after playing CS in order to play League, the drivers can both co-exist.

Hello there. I used AHK to press down key combinations, there is no logic involved. Is this bannable with Vanguard?

For example, I have my top 3 item slot actives bound to numpad 1-3. I will have Q trigger numpad1, W triggers numpad2, and E triggers numpad3. This way I can "attach" item arrived to certain spell keys.

I do this because I have RSI and struggled to hold the shift key or press further away keys than what is right below my hand.

I have CheatEngine installed which I have used for years on FIFA career modes (to install face mods). Is having it installed/open going to cause any fuckery with Vanguard?

I think K3o can probably say it better than me. https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1c1kgrk/dev_vanguard_x_lol/kz3yi9u/?share_id=HibAEyoDgZgQOqPJUCFjv Hope this answers your question.

Yeah, rank is honestly rough and bit stressful. I appreciate the advice honestly. You're right now to die less. I'm often having less deaths than my adc, but I try to provide as many kills as possible. It's quite possible that I'm not as aggressive when it comes to supporting a least.

When it comes to other positions. You're right that I should focus more on CS than trying to get that kill. Thank you for the advice.

Sure. It's a split moment decision to know 'omg do i go in with my marksman or hang back' and often it's better to take a "bad" fight as a team than to be on separate pages cause they wanna be aggressive and you wanna play passive, so you're not gonna nail it every time and that's ok. It's expected to lose sometimes, so don't put _too_ much pressure on yourself. And if you find yourself getting a bit tilted, take a break! At the end of the day it's a game meant to be fun.

Keep up the great work and you'll keep climbin.

Hey nice job making the jump to Ranked. That can be so intimidating!

Honestly I think one of the quickest ways to climb in the lower elos is to just die less. imo it's more important to not die than it is to get a kill. Think before taking a fight - are you just fighting because no action has happened in a little bit, or is there actually a good fight to be had here? Lots of people just engage cause it's been 30 seconds without something flashy happening on the screen, and they end up dying, giving the enemy a lead and losing gold/exp. If you just focus on farming, at that elo you will just naturally become stronger than others in the game and win by power alone. But ya can't really do that if you die a buncha times.

GLHF!

I really hope the new bots help create a better ramp for your friend to get comfortable with the game. That team has been doing such amazing work, and one of the big goals is helping newer players become familiar with the game and to get used to how players will actually play, something our current bots just don't do. I hope you give em a try together and it makes the jump to PVP less intimidating, especially after they've found a champion or two that they really like and are comfortable with.

Thanks so much for playing our game and spending your time with us over the last....13 years :O
