Ikr, u/RiotSmileyJoe will be out of a job soon.

Oh god I hope not. I’ve got a fat folder of memes that really wouldn’t work for any other job.

Must have been fun having your email blow up with the comms requests to respond to this

I’m sorta used to it but the number of emails I got between 11:30am and 11:32am helped me set a new personal best for speed-running my zero-to-panic-attack time

Primary reason for the strike is because of Formosa, which provides services for League. So they're putting pressure on Formosa via one of their most lucrative clients. Formosa had a complaint against them from SAG-AFTRA for:

The complaint comes after Formosa tried to “cancel” one of its struck video games shortly after the start of SAG-AFTRA’s video game strike. When they were told that was not possible, they secretly transferred the game to a shell company and sent out casting notices for “NON-UNION” talent only.

Edit: Official Riot statement on the strike:

League of Legends has nothing to do with the complaint mentioned in SAG-AFTRA’s press release. We want to be clear: since becoming a union project five years ago, League of Legends has only asked Formosa to engage with Union performers in the US and has never once suggested doing otherwise. In addition, we’ve never asked Formosa to cancel a game that we’ve registered. All of the allegations in SAG-AFTRA’s press release relating to canceling a game or hiring non-union talent relate to a non-Riot game, and have nothing to do with League or any of our games.

Here I was about to get on Reddit to post our statement and of course /u/Spideraxe30 beat me to it lol

This is real but there are no plans for a global release right now. Always possible things could change, but at least to start this is a China-only project.

Ukraine going up 66% holy shit

EDIT: 73% for league itself as someone pointed out, that’s even crazier

Yeah this one especially sucks. When we did our last round of price adjustments 2 years ago we kept prices the same in Ukraine largely because of the war, but unfortunately, because we kept prices the same, Ukraine has become by far the top market for out-of-market purchases. The vast majority of purchases in Ukrainian Hryvnia are being made by accounts that normally play outside the country or follow the patterns we see with account/currency resellers.

Hey, I'm not a legal expert but I am a member of our security team, which works closely with our privacy team.

We have a pretty thorough deletion process for personal information, which is called the Right To Be Forgotten. If a player requests their account be deleted, effectively any personal information on them is destroyed within 30 days or so of that request.

The only information that could be tied to a player after that point would be things that we are legally required to keep a record of, and it would be in as anonymized a format as it can be. That information is things we have a justifiable legal interest in. Examples might be a chat log between you and other players, which would be anonymized, for a period of time, or transaction logs.

> but it is interesting how they can simultaneously keep any personal information we add to the account in order to sell to other companies

Riot doesn't sell your personal information to other companies. Any personal information you do give us is limited to the relevant scope within the company - for example, payment information doesn't get used outside of processing payments for purchases.

Our privacy policy and the way we handle personally identifiable information is, in general, shaped by GDPR, regardless of the region you're living in. So if you're living in the US or other regions we operate in, your data is still handled in compliance with the GDPR, broadly speaking.

Confirmed /u/RiotBoppenheimer is legit, just in case anyone was a little 🤨 about lack of flair

Prompt: write a reddit apology comment denying use of AI in ticket responses. /s

I gave it a try:

Me: Can you help me write a response to a thread on reddit? I need to respond to questions about whether a video game company is using artificial intelligence as part of its customer support program. The company does use AI for some things, but not in the way the thread suggests.

ChatGPT: Sure! I can help you write a response. Could you provide me with the questions and the suggested way in which the company's AI is being used for customer support, so that I can assist you in crafting an appropriate response?

Me: Sure! The company uses AI to respond to routine inquiries that can be easily addressed (I lost my password, etc.). But most (85% or more) of responses are provided by real human agents, often using previously written statements. The thread alleges that these previously written statements were written using AI, which isn't the case.

ChatGPT: Here's a response you can use for the thread:

"Hey everyone, I wanted to chime in and clarify some information rega...

Not gonna lie, this reads exactly like ChatGP response

I was here first so i like to think chat gpt sounds like me, not the other way around

Just a more efficient way to copy/paste the messages you'd receive anyway.

Yes and no. Easy copy/paste responses are part of our approach to player support but AI-written ones (at least like this) aren’t.

The team is still sorting through what happened here, but to answer the big questions here: we don’t write responses using AI and if you’re talking to AI when you’re communicating with Riot Support then we’ll tell you.

We do maintain pre-saved responses for agents to use as the baseline for their response for common issues. This helps ensure that there’s consistency plus it speeds things up. Agents can adapt these to their own voice and save them in their accounts to respond to players. In this case, this individual agent used some AI-generated language as part of their saved response. Writing any part of a response with AI isn't part of our protocol and shouldn't have happened.

Couple points about how we use AI: - we do use chat bots and automated responses in some cases (~15% of tickets) - we're honest about it every time we’re using automated respo...

Hey all,

Confirmed with Player Support that they’ve responded to OP on this (think OP is offline for the night) but wanted to respond here too since people have some questions and concerns.

To answer the big questions here: we don’t write responses using AI and if you’re talking to AI when you’re communicating with Riot Support then we’ll tell you.

The team is still sorting through what happened here, but here's some context. We maintain pre-saved phrases and responses that we encourage agents to use as the baseline in responses for common issues. This helps ensure that there’s consistency plus it speeds things up. Agents can adapt these to their own voice and save them in their accounts to respond to players when there's language that works for them. Op keep us updated we love wholesome stories

We have some very promising leads. I think this is gonna happen.

That would be pretty sweet. If nothing else just to say thank you for the presentation, which at the time was so under-appreciated by us high school kids. After watching Arcane and everything and League being as big as it is I find it so cool that I saw the Jinx model live! And at the time he said he was still working on it and updating it too I believe.

Happy to ask around. Remember any other details? You can DM me if it’s stuff you wouldn’t want public (your school, teacher, etc).

spazzxxcc12

let’s send Riot Zed after them

So mad at us now that we didn’t work that into the tweet

Next time :3

I almost wrote that but sorta hoping there isn’t a next time for this kind of thing. It hasn’t been a pleasure.

Our main photographer is a dude named Colin Young-Wolff, who (in addition to having an amazing name and being an awesome guy) has been shooting for Riot for many many years. Wanted to drop in real quick to give the man a shoutout because he is a true master of his craft.

AnimusAbstrusum

by that logic chronoshift also should have been ok as it was neither being sold or passed off as official

Would break #3 here https://www.riotgames.com/en/legal for “No unauthorized games or apps” (and maybe 4 too depending on how you think about it)

Pinball machines are okay, but neon light tubes of Kai sa aren't?

I mean I'm happy for this person, but I don't understand why a friend of mine had your company make him destroy art work he made for his girlfriend as a birthday present

Not anything I’ve heard about—sorry. I’m not a lawyer so I couldn’t say but it’s not anything my team (comms) ever got brought into.

theoctonaut

Get Lilnasx to sign off on the pinball machines (if he was the real president lol). Thanks so much for commenting. I’ve made sure to reach out to riot a couple times to ensure and also have acknowledged in my dmd screen that riot owns all copyrights to videos and characters.

We used up all our LNX wishes getting him to move the song up a day. Sorry!

striker879

Legit you need to tell you co workers to get on making these. 10/10 would purchase.

It’s probably good they don’t let me make decisions like that. I’d somehow bankrupt the company in a week. But I guess on the plus side we’d get some real cool merch in that glorious week. 🤔

toxicity18241

I'd be careful with this, riot will send you a nasty email and tell you to destroy it. Might take this off reddit.

Looks cool though! 😎

This is incredibly dope and seems totally okay based on the legal guidelines (https://www.riotgames.com/en/legal). As long as OP doesn’t try to sell it or pass it off as official then they should be good to go.

I’m just jealous I don’t have the skills to make anything like this. My dream is a pinball machine in my house and one of my goals at the Riot office is to have the high score on all of our pinball machines there.
