We’re the playtest team - you might have seen some of our ‘Patch Chat’ posts over on the dev corner. TL;DR about us is we work across multiple league development teams by playing the hell out of things (lane tests, competitive testing, etc) while giving actionable, objective feedback to designers.

We’re currently looking for highly talented, passionate LoL players to help fill out our roster, and figured we’d also try here.

A little bit about who we’re looking for to help us out:

• Currently ranked Diamond+
• Able to analyze and break down League of Legends at a very high level
• Ability to state your points concisely and generate critical feedback
• Understand, and communicate the root cause of a problem

In short, someone who can play the game at a high level while analyzing and understanding what goes into that.

Just curious but is this a position that you can apply from abroad? Or you need to live in Cali or the US at least? I would love to work ar Riot at some point but I'm not from the US so I was curious if this a possition that I could maybe apply to in the future

It would require a work visa, so generally needs to be from the US unless you individually have some other way around that

nope. For this team we don't require any experience... just that you have good communication skills, good design sense, and are relatively high ranked. You would need to relocate to California (eventually, after Covid stuff), but we help with relocation costs a bit

I recall Yone's designer talked about a spell he had that, in summary, gave Yone a free dash towards enemy champions after they used a dash. It stuck around in his development for a really long time before they canned it.

that iteration was wild.... I think Yone went through more iterations than any other champion I have worked on in my 8 years at Riot

Oh neat, Afic wrote this one. I've heard horror stories from him about champions like Pyke and their earlier iterations. His W used to make him invisible (not camouflaged) and it reset on kills/assists.

Pyke with 2 charges of his W that gave true stealth still haunts me. Glad we got to show this prowler's claw footage in the article though!

First I want to say sorry if you had a bad experience, as I could have stepped in sooner and asked the zed to tone it back (ended up asking him to around ~9 minutes into the game). I didn't like that he was typing in all chat, but it didn't strike me as something that was super out of line or anything (first thing he said in all chat was at 3:30 in game time), and I would rather people draw their own conclusions on how it all played out.

Regardless, I could have stepped in and done more. I ended up saying something to Zed, but didn't close the loop or say anything else in all chat, which seems like it would have helped.

wouldn't it have been possible to use one of the old observer spells that reveal the whole map to clear the particles?

I'm not sure if that tool exists, but more importantly at the time of the crash we didn't actually know what was causing problems. If something like that did exist (and we understood the crash) this would have prevented it from happening.

In fact, when I was doing some testing on the fix and tracking cpu usage, I would spam spell sin fountain, see the server begin to slow down, then cast hawk shot with ashe and see the server improve

Saddest thing about Ornn's items when he was released was it was just a stat buff and nothing even a little more interesting. Imagine if Zhonya's was 1 second longer, or recastable to stop the Stasis. Imagine if Warmog's passive also worked with mana. Etc.

We actually tested quite a few of enhanced effects in development. Turned out that it was EXTREMELY powerful and we decided that it would be too difficult to support longer term, so they became what they are today. Felt like a bit of a missed opportunity, but given the timing of everything I think it was the best decision.

First we have a champion that copies the looks of another, now a champion that copies the ultimate of another champion...

What's next? A champion that copies another rune page?

Fun fact: Sylas and Neeko were in production at similar times. Temp visuals for Sylas stealing an ult would change his appearance to that champion. We had many playtests with both Sylas and Neeko in the same game. Those games were a bit confusing to say the least
