Hello Stellaris Community!
We hope you’ve been enjoying the content from Stellaris: Season 08! We’re here to let you know that as of today, November 26th, Season 08 will transition from a Steam Package to a Dynamic Bundle.
What does this mean to me?
If you already own Season 08 then these changes won’t affect you or your content, and you can stop reading now and go back to loading pops into your Synaptic Lathe.
If you only purchased one or more DLCs from Stellaris: Season 08, and want to pick up the rest at a discounted price, changing to a Dynamic Bundle now allows you to do that without paying for content that you already own. If you bought them all individually, and are sad that you don’t get the Rick the Cube bonus portrait, you should also be able to claim it as part of the Season 08 Dynamic Bundle after this change.
Early in the New Year, this Dynamic Bundle will be retired and the content added to the Ultimate Bundle, to make way for Season 09. But first, we wanted to give those p... Read more

Hi everyone!
Today we’re going over the release notes from Tuesday, talking about the further plans for the Circinus cycle, and exploring the reaction to last week’s dev diary, The Vision[forum.paradoxplaza.com].
3.14.159 Release Notes
[expand type=details expanded=false]
We released the 3.14.159 patch on Tuesday, and these were the release notes:
Improvements
  • By popular request, greatly expanded the basement storage of the Grand Archive. You now have 18 slots of overflow instead of 4.
  • Replaced the Mysterious Labyrinth event image
  • The Metalheads AI personality can be gained by Individualist Machines or Organic empires that are Very Strong (instead of just Strong)
Balance
  • The Treasure Hunter Origin now starts leaders with level 3 of Adventurous Spirit, meaning it should no longer constantly be offered as an upgrade.
Bugfixes
  • Add Beastport, Hatchery and Vivarium Tank to orbital rings, and add Shipyard exclusion rules
  • Added a hyphen to the X-Ray Eye Beam mutation
  • Added the miss...

If the game is crashing on startup, it's likely the launcher has forgotten your video settings. In the launcher, go to settings, graphics, and choose borderless fullscreen or windowed mode (the opposite from what it currently is) and see if that resolves it.
There also have been several reports of crashing issues that feature mods not deactivating correctly.
To resolve this:
Go to your Steam Profile, Workshop items, and click unsubscribe from all:
We also recommend clearing your downloaded Steam workshop items, you can find the default install locations here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\281990
and here:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod

Disable your mods, and start a new save. If this issue persists, you can make a bug report here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/stellaris-bug-reports.941/

The Expansion Subscription is primarily to lower the bar to entry for new players, if you have all or most of the DLC, its very likely that the subscription will not be worth it for you.
New DLC will *not* be subscription only, and you can still purchase them on Steam (or other platforms) as you could previously. Read more

People joining the game you host, have access to the dlc you own, if you have the sub, most likely mean they have access to it too.
This is correct, subscription DLC behave the same as normal DLC, and are shared in multiplayer as long as the subscribed player is the host. Read more

Dark Clouds Gather ...
For some time we have been unsatisfied with the Space Storm that currently exists in Stellaris. Cosmic Storms gave us the opportunity to revamp the system entirely, providing a deeper experience with strategically meaningful gameplay and beautiful upgraded visuals.
With this expansion, eight new storms with varying positive and negative effects are set to spiral across the galaxy.
We’ve also added a new weather map mode for forecasting these storms and predicting their motion, with technologies and buildings to attract, repel, or with an Ascension Perk... Read more
This sounds like a mod conflict.
Can you disable your mods and see if the issue persists? If it does, you will likely need to verify your game files:
Right click Stellaris, Properties, Local files and click Verify Game files. If that doesn't resolve your issue, opening a ticket at support.paradoxplaza.com is your best bet.
Hope this helps!

The launcher can indeed handle custom install paths. It sounds like your launcher install has been corrupted. (In Windows) Go to Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall Paradox Launcher V2. Then try to relaunch the game via Steam, it will automatically redownload and install the launcher again.
I've talked with the game designers about this extensively. I'm told that this is how it is supposed to work. If I recall correctly, we left off at making reference to the fact that it costs edict cap and monthly unity in the tooltip. I do not know when this will be included in a release, however.
Hello,
A hotfix patch is now available via Steam, addressing a crash affecting some players trying to start a new game in 3.12.3.
  • Fixed a crash where the user directory could not be accessed by the game if the file path included certain characters

Thanks for playing Stellaris, and apologies for the inconvenience!
If you check your error.log in documents/paradox interactive/stellaris/logs/ and the last line says:
virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:1202]: Could not open file: settings.txt, error: permission denied
Then try this:
On the drive where Stellaris is installed (C:\ in this case), create a new folder called stellarisdata. The path to this file (in this example) should be c:\stellarisdata.
Then, on Steam, right click Stellaris, Properties and in the launch options box, add:
-userdir=C:/stellarisdata
and then load the game. After loading the game, you can move your user_empire_designs.txt and save games from documents/paradox interactive/stellaris into the new stellarisdata folder you've created Read more

I can't even start a game, I just bought the Machine Age expansion (I have all of them now) and couldn't save even a bio empire without the game crashing. So even creating a new empire and trying to save it crashes everyone.
Such a great game just became 100% unplayable.
This issue has been added to our internal bug tracker, and will likely be addressed soon. In the meantime - if you don't want to wait for the fix - you can use my instructions above. Read more
Alright, after talking with someone else who was experiencing this, and poking the tech lead we have identified the issue that is likely causing this, and a potential workaround:
This issue is caused by having non-US characters in the path to the user directory, and the game fails to save to the settings.txt file and then crashes.
The workaround:
On the drive that Stellaris is installed on, create a new folder called stellarisdata (I will be using C, but just substitute whatever drive you're using). the path to this folder in my example will be C:\stellarisdata.
Then, in Steam, right click Stellaris, go to Properties, and in the launch options, add this:
-userdir=C:/stellarisdata
Then run the game, and see if the issue persists.
Hope this helps! Read more
Hello folks, we are seeing an increase in crashes in the crash reporter as well. Can someone who is experiencing this issue try running Steam as an admin, and see if the issue persists?
