Isn’t all this the same info already in the wiki or in game by clicking on the skill/achievements/books?

We’re slowly converting this stuff to the Wiki and the in-game doesn’t cover specific things you can do in the run up to each dig site like mystery guides, etc.

Hopefully it’s useful!

Note: This post was meant to combine a training guide plus mysteries and research, however it will hit reddit's character limit. So this post will contain a training guide, then I'll reply with comments below with a mysteries guide and research.

So prepare yourself for a hell of a read, huge credit to Saint Cannon for this writeup and 0000000000.1% credit to me for formatting for reddit.

Hello everyone!

With the new release of Archaeology, myself, Saint Cannon, Gaga Lady, Friendliness, Son, Suity, and Im Rubic created the Archaeology discord server.

It has been a very exciting project working on mysteries guides, fleshing out methods on obtaining items, collaborating with the community on the Pylon, deposit box callouts, and so much more! It has been amazing to see the camaraderie and willingness to share information to help others even with the race.

Additionally, it has been a humbling experience working alongside some of the pillars of the RS community. ...

Writings on the Walls

The mystery starts when you study the first Markings on the Wall. You are only able to see the markings once you are level 99 with the Guildmaster qualification.

After discovering a Marking on the Wall, you will gain a 30 minute research for each one. After your Special Mission returns, study them again. After this is done at all five dig sites, the mystery is completed.

The locations are:

Kharid-et Mysteries

Breaking the Seal (Level 12 Required)

You must be level 12 to begin excavating and to restore the Centurion Seal. Just click on the pile of dirt once both criteria have been met.

Prison Break (Level 12 Required)

To open the Prison Door, you must first get the dial from Liam, which can be obtained after getting between two to four journal pages (can be obtained by any pile in the fortress). You then must enter the code 'shadow, blood, smoke, and then ice' to gain access.

Time Served (Level 47 Required)

Restore an ancient timepiece (located in the Praesido Remains) and use it on the cell controller.

Forgotten Prisoner (Level 107 Required)

Requires: Time Served mystery and a restored Pontifex Signet Ring artefact (found in Carcerem Debris, which requires level 58 Archaeology). Additionally, you will need the Legatus Amulet (found in the Praesidio Remains, which requires level 47 Archaeology).

With the Pontifex Signet Ring in your inventory, progress through the barrier in the side room opened by the Time Served mystery and talk to the Strange Device.

Correct chat options for the Strange Device: 4-2-5-1.

  • Who am I? Xil'gar Trog.
  • What am I? Demon Soul.
  • Where am I? In prison.
  • Why am I here? Committed treason.

You then need a Portable Phylactery which is obtained from Ancient Magick Munition excavations (requires level 107).

Use it on the prison to complete the mystery.

Decimation (Level 107 Required)

Turn in all six journal pages, found in the Ancient Magicka Munitions, Praetorian Remains, and War Table Debris (levels 107, 114, and 118, respectively), to Dr. Nabanik.

Shadow Fall (Level 107 Required)

Turn in all five journal pages, found in the Ancient Magicka Munitions, Praetorian Remains, and War Table Debris (levels 107, 114, and 118, respectively), to Dr. Nabanik.

The Cult of Orcus (Level 74 Required)

Turn in all three journal pages, found in the Kharid-et Chapel Debris (level 74 required) in Kharid-et, to Dr. Nabanik.

The Vault of Shadows (Level 107 Required)

Requires: A restored 'Incite Fear' spell scroll artefact (found in Carcerem Debris, which requires level 58 Archaeology). Additionally, you will need the Legatus Amulet (found in the Praesidio Remains, which requires level 47 Archaeology).

With the 'Incite Fear' spell scroll in your inventory, progress through the unlocked door via completing the Time Served mystery.

Walk south until you see the dial on the wall (picture with the X) Click the scroll while standing in front of the dial. Then click the dial and confirm to enter the puzzle room (picture shows where to stand)

Correct Puzzle looks like this

  • Pick up page
  • Move camera to face north
  • Move NE 1 time forward
  • Move E 1 time forward
  • Move NE 1 time backward
  • Move SW 1 time backward
  • Move S 2 times forward
  • Move SE 2 times forward
  • Move middle 1 time forward
  • Move N 1 time backward
  • Move S 1 time backward
  • Move W 1 time forward
  • Move NW 1 time forward

Use the 'Exsanguinate' spell (from the level 86 Orcus Alter piles) [on the dial on the northern wall in the chapel]. This will open the southern way into the shadow vault.

Inside there is another puzzle similar to the previous puzzle (same correct answer), but this time there are only 5 buttons, shaped in an X.

The following is the solution for the second puzzle.

  • SW 1 Backward
  • Middle 1 Forward
  • NW 2 Forward
  • SW 1 Backward
  • Middle 2 Backward
  • NE 1 Forward
  • SE 1 Forward
  • Middle 1 Backward
  • NE 2 Backward
  • Middle 2 Backward
  • NE 1 Backward
  • Middle 1 Backward
  • SW 1 Backward
  • SE 1 Forward
  • Middle 1 Forward
  • SE 1 Forward
  • Middle 1 Forward
  • SE 1 Forward
  • SW 1 Forward
  • Middle 1 Forward
  • SW 1 Backward
  • Middle 2 Forward

The third puzzle can be accessed by using 'Smoke Cloud' Spell Scroll (level 100) on the dial located in the Furnace.

The final puzzle can be accessed by using 'Animate Dead' Spell Scroll (level 107) on the dial located in the War Room. You always need the ring of visibility for the table.

After completing all four puzzles, speak with Dr. Nabanik to receive a shadow engram.

  • Train Divination and collect 500 memories to fill the engram.
  • Operate the engram to get a memory.
  • Bring the memory to Dr. Nabanik to get a book.
  • Bring the book back to the vault.
  • After the cutscene, return to the vault and talk to Trindine to finish the mystery.

Take some chalk and candles from the edge of the room to re-draw the circle in the center and place the candles on their sconces. Light the candles and perform the chant. Starting at the west candle and moving clockwise the chants are: Ordo Animam Capit, Ceterum Aperuerit Ianuam, and Et Daemonium Renascitur.

Contract Claws (Level 29 Required)

Items you will need:

  • A dog familiar (Lorehound, Corgi pet override, Blue (from clue scroll reward shop), or a puppy from the Yanille pet store)
  • A Shiny (harlequin) cow or bull OR all three cows, Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate (You will lose this!)
  • Red Dye
  • Zamorak Brew (fortitude prayer will also work for this portal)
  • Bacon
  • Frog Spawn
  • Fake Beard or Desert Disguise
  • Goblin Potion (Please note: You will have to unequip everything you are wearing before drinking the potion, so have enough inventory space).
  • Dragon Bones

Chaos portals transport the player around the same level of the Vestibule of Futility while Dagon portals transport the player up or down a level. Mephisto the Imp appears to the player 7 times in total. Talking to Mephisto will inform the player that they need to solve a slider puzzle in order to free them.

Upon completion of the puzzle and speaking to Mephisto again, the player will receive a die, each one reducing the chance to be teleported to a random chaos portal rather than the intended destination. Although it is not necessary to complete the puzzles, it makes it easier to travel around the area.

The rewards are as follows:

  • First encounter: Gives 1/4 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Second encounter: Gives: 1/6 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Third encounter: 1/8 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Fourth encounter (Next to the Candle Ritual): 1/10 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Fifth encounter (Upper ring): 1/12 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Sixth encounter (Lower ring): 1/20 chance to fail in teleportation portals.
  • Seventh encounter (Middle ring): 1/100 chance to fail in teleportation portals.

The Infernal Source contains many broken Zodiac portals. Each portal has a coin on top of it, which gives experience and lists various requirements for each gargoyle. The gargoyles can be spoken to in any order.

Specific Gargoyles can be found here

Vestibule of Futility (Top Tier)

  • North - Pisces and Aries.
  • South - Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio.

The Harrowing (Mid Tier)

  • Leo, Cancer, Gemini, and Taurus.

Dagon Overlook (Bottom Tier)

  • Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius.

For Aries, step through the portal with a dog familiar (Lorehound, Corgi pet override, Blue (from clue scroll reward shop), or a puppy from the Yanille pet store works) and talk to the gargoyle.

For Taurus, use Angry emote once, step through the portal, and then use Angry emote again before talking.

For Gemini, have a Shiny! (harlequin) cow or bull OR have one of each of these: Vanilla/Chocolate/Strawberry cow or bull in your inventory, then step through the portal. Note - Gemini will eat it.

For Cancer, bring a red dye with you, then step through the portal.

For Leo, decrease your life points (Zamorak Brew or Fortitude works) and then step through the portal.

For Virgo, have Bacon in inventory, then step through the portal.

For Libra, use Raspberry emote once, step through the portal, and then use Raspberry emote again before talking.

For Scorpio, bring Frog Spawn with you (fished on the east part of Lumbridge Swamp cave), then step through the portal.

For Sagittarius, pray any Protection Prayer and then move through the portal.

For Capricorn, wear a Fake Beard (You can get it after completing Rocking Out quest and talking with the captain on Braindeath island or from the crate o beards) or a desert disguise (You can get one by combining a fake beard with a Kharidian headpiece, both bought from Ali Morrisane at Al Kharid or Pollnivneach general store), and step through the portal.

For Aquarius, drink a Goblin Potion to transform into Goblin (potion is made by combining Toadflax potion (unf) and Pharmakos Berries (can get one for free from Make-over mage). Then wear any item to turn back into human and then talk to the gargoyle.

For Pisces, bring Dragon Bones in your inventory and then step through the portal.

Dagon Bye (Level 68 Requirement)

YOU HAVE TO COLLECT ALL 12 GARGOYLE PAGES FROM CONTRACT CLAWS BEFORE YOU CAN FINISH THIS MYSTERY.

Craft a Chaos star (obtained from the Shakroth Remains, level 68 Archaeology required) and descend to the bottom of the pit.

There will be a puzzle based on gargoyle numbers. You will need to enter the number that each Gargoyle's has in this order:

Libra, Virgo, Scorpio, Aquarius, Libra, Pisces, Virgo, Aries, Sagittarius, Pisces, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Aquarius.

Everlight Mysteries

Fallen Angels (Level 42 Required)

Excavate the Prodromoi remains (level 42 required) at the Everlight digsite until you find Icyene remains. Talk to Vanescula who does the site introduction at Everlight, then get a frying pan artefact from the excavation spot. Repair the frying pan, then go south of Everlight and bury it with the remains. Talk with Vanescula again to complete the mystery.

Queen of the Icyene (Level 42 Required)

Return to the Prodromoi remains for the ‘Frying Pan’ and excavate there until you find four journal pages. Read and destroy them, then speak to Vanescula again to complete the mystery.

Fall and Rise (Level 61 Required)

Turn in all five journal pages, found in the Stadio Debris pile, Dominion Games Podium, and Icyene Weapon Rack in Everlight, to Vanescula Drakan.

The Dour of Bable (Level 72 Required)

Turn in all four journal pages, found in the Oikos Studio Debris (level 72 required), to Vanescula Drakan.

The Epic of Hebe (Level 92 Required)

Turn in all five journal pages, found in the Acropolis Debris and Bibliotheke Debris (levels 92 and 109, respectively), to Vanescula Drakan.

Hallowed Be (Level 105 Required)

Enter the door under the Acropolis in Everlight by using a Dominion Torch on the sconce (level 69 required). A torch can be obtained through either the Studio Ga Ga research or it can be collected from the Dominion Games podium.

  • The door unseals and you can enter the next room.
  • Follow the cave all the way to the north.
  • Study the Icyene skeletons to unlock new special research, called "Battle of Optimatoi."
  • Enter the northern room and then go diving underwater.
  • Study the Lighthouse mechanism to unlock more new special research, called "Like Clockwork."
  • Find the 3 cogs (north, west, and south) and place them in the three slots on the ground to fix the broken mechanisms (you can only carry them one by one). Images: 1, 2, 3

Next, repair the mosaic art by using the 'Hallowed be the Everlight' painting along with 300 mosaic fragments on it. These are gained from excavating the Stockpiled Art site (level 105 required). One to ten mosaic fragments are dropped randomly at a time.

After repairing the mosaic, activate the lighthouse elevator and go up to complete the mystery.

The Everlight (Level 105 Required)

Give the Statue of Padosan (69 Archaeology) a Dominion Torch which will give you a Gold Dominion Medal.

Give the Gold Dominion Medal to Pandomenes (NPC located at Falador Castle) and gain information about using a Kantharos Cup (obtained from Oikos Studio Debris which requires level 72 Archaeology) on the beam on top of the Everlight Lighthouse.

Fully complete Hallowed Be... and go up the elevator that is unlocked at the end of the mystery.

Place the Promdromol, Hetairoi, Psiloi, and Optimatoi Bucklers (all four can be obtained by excavating cobalt blue, silvthril material caches or amphitheater debris and any higher leveled excavation piles) on the statues. That will unlock the puzzle. The puzzle is a 3x3 board where you move four pillars around trying to light up bucklers in the walls in specific tiles.

Once completed, take the elevator upstairs again. Use the Kantharo's Cup to claim the Everlight to complete the mystery.

Stormguard Citadel Mysteries

Atonement (Level 70 Required)

Obtain 'Exile's Vow' page from excavating Ikovian Memorial and talk to Gee'ka for completion.

Leap of Faith (Level 70 Required)

You start this mystery as soon as you talk to Gee'ka at the portal entrance to the Stormguard Citadel. Before you can enter, you need to obtain an Ikovian gerege from excavating the Ikovian Memorial nearby.

Once obtained, restore it, and take it to Gee'ka. You will be able to enter the portal to the Stormguard Citadel.

Once inside, you need to obtain the 'Boots of Flight,' which are also obtained from excavating the Ikovian Memorial inside.

With the boots, proceed to talk to Gee'ka. Then, enter the citadel again and traverse the two gaps north.

The Spy Who Loved Metal (Level 76 Required)

Turn in all three journal pages, found in the Keshik Ger and Tailory Debri, to Gee'ka.

Wing Out (Level 76 Required)

Upgrade your Wingsuit twice.

The first upgrade can be found in the central Stormgu...

I wanted to do a quick write up about this client, and it’s journey.

Hi, I’m Jordan, I had the idea of making an HD client a few years ago, it was a fun project I’d work on after school and whenever I had free time. I was 17, learning to program as a hobby and had no idea the amount of traction it would get.

I was invited to Jagex HQ to meet with MMK about the possibility of implementing it in-house, I stayed for a few days where we discussed the future of the client. Ultimately it didn’t come to fruition, and I stopped developing the client. Later I sold it to a third party, but they didn’t end up finishing it either, and they’ve since given me the rights to make a new one if I so choose.

So here I am in 2020, giving it another shot. After seeing the shift in perception of 3rd party clients in both the community and Jagex’s posts, I figured now would be a good time to realistically be allowed to release this.

I’m now a game developer by profession, and have every intention of releasing this. The timeline is hard to estimate, as this is a unique project in the sense that is has some strange quirks. Such as the game being written in Java, and Unity using C#. I like to think that I’m at the 80% mark, at least for the early access milestone. I will post updates when I have something to share.

Thanks for reading, I will try answer all questions in this post. Cheers!

As someone who now works for Unity, good on you for using Unity! Very hyped

Gamebugio

I can't speak to that, nor can I seem to find it, but u/Shaunyowns has posted before (I think on behalf of someone?) of a ring being destroyed by the scrim. This was at hydrix dragons iirc.

https://twitter.com/Shaunyowns/status/1184406780983595009

Stupendously hyped for this, I was a noobie when Invention came out but I'm so ready to dive into this skill, think the team have smashed it, very much looking forward to more information as it releases!

Nice one for reporting it :) let's hope the post helps it get the visibility it needs to get it fixed!

GamerSylv

Even of its duplicative it's nice to see it communicated anyways. Not everyone uses Reddit or Discord. Shauny you were there front and center for a lot of bad communication things. Having this on the news page is good.

I said in my original post having it on the front page is what this needs, but what concerns me with RS news posts is that we won't see these until Wednesday, maybe Thursday due to translation time for the other languages.

I'm all for it, but these need to come out very quickly after the stream otherwise TL;DWs will still take precedent on these, just my two cents.

The_Five-O

100% agree. Players are constantly telling the community managers we want a consolidated area for information to be released officially. This is an amazing move by Jagex and I hope they keep it up.

Agreed, the Wiki proposed using a Social Feed to consolidate and centralise all the useful information that's come out officially.

If you are curious - https://runescape.wiki/w/Forum:Social_feed

Escape > Settings > Combat > Targeting > Change the default attack options, that should sort you out!

So couple comments from me:

  • We have TL;DWs already is this not duplicating the information that Rubic/Suity themselves put out?
  • With these being a news post I assume these need translations, we see TL;DWs hours after streams on Tuesday, if Rubic/Suity aren't doing these anymore how soon do we expect to see these posts after a stream?
  • I like the post, but I personally enjoy Rubic/Suity's take on them, just my two cents.

EDIT: Some other bits that have come to mind

  • Already it feels like this post is quite a lot to read, I'd even say this could be TL;DR'd.
  • How will points that are negative (because there will be some) be addressed on these?

However... apart from that it's nice to see it as a RS news post, more visibility versus Reddit/Discord the better! I just hope there's quick turnarounds on these.
