Nothing to share with you on that today. It may be that it stays this way, but if we can change it to allow for more freedom then we will.

The challenge is in ensuring that there's a proper way to report and remove servers with bad names - that or we'd need to install an aggressive filter that blocks bad words.

As I say, we're not opposed to it but we're going to prioritise other things over this when it comes to improving CG.

I hate being negative but, I’m passionate about the community I’m part of. This should be a priority. Please rename it Private Matches as I can’t name any Game I start after my Community.

It was removed this morning. I feel that it presently adds no value to the board until we can attach meaningful changes to it. Our present policy is to not discuss changes and status on content until it's cleared active development and has been submitted in a release candidate.

In terms of what folks are telling us they want to see added/improved/changed with the game, we know that the priority from yourselves lies around Team Balancing, Anti-Cheat, and as a result of the recent Weapon Damage changes, there's now a rising interest in a Hardcore mode.

Adam I know you are just the messenger, and are one of the biggest proponents for the proper return of community servers. The community is the answer to all these issues, we just need the proper tool set. Please pass along this answer to Dice on these issues

Short answer- Give us a BF:1 style RSP as a bare minimum. Its a good starting point and we can go from there. No extra bells an whistles, just the base. Once the base is done focus on the extra options to get us closer to pre-BF:1 procon servers.

Long answer- 1)Remove ToW restrictions: If a chapter last 3 months, and on average a player takes 2 months to finish a chapter community servers are only viable for 1 month out of 3. Add in Weekly assignments and that reduces that one month to only a couple of weeks. That means a server is only viable for 2 weeks every 3 months.

2)Servers need to be persistant: If a server disappears from the broswer when empty how is a community going to start it back up.

3)Team Switch Button: Most ...

You can read it like this.
Tier 1 = The first reward
Tier 2 = The second reward
Tier 20 = The 20th reward
etc...

This is not the same as Chapter Rank, because the Rank can only be earned through playing and earning Chapter XP. Whenever you rank up you will unlock the next reward.

If you Unlock Tiers by purchasing them directly, through the Chapter Booster or by completing the above mentioned week you will unlock the next X rewards but you will not get a higher Rank.

A higher rank is only available through gameplay and completing weekly challenges.
The Bronze, Silver and Gold Dogtag are tied to these ranks as well.

For those whom have already reached rank 40 in Ch. 5 Tides of War will we be able to use this token in later chapters?

So, to finally get back and answer this post (as I said I would, sorry for the delay):

I was personally pretty bummed out by the controversies surrounding this game around and before launch (especially the focus it took away from the good stuff), and I think that goes for many of the devs. I hope we can bridge that gap and get back to making a better game and experience that meets expectations from players that like Battlefield and ourselves as devs as well.

There are of course multiple things I'd personally would have done differently, but I prefer to start doing things directly when I realize I should rather than dwelling on what could have been 🙂 - I hope that my personal and the teams effort will be something that speaks for itself within the game rather than merely a topic of discussion.

As some of you know, I recently came back from ~8 months away on parental leave, with fresh eyes and an eager mind to make some Battlefield. Although I stayed away from social and the game in general (kids eat your time up!). I, of course, didn't miss the June patch issues and controversy to follow that - so I had a rough idea of the state of the game and community.

The first thing I did when I got back at the beginning of September was to sit down and play the game A LOT (both what is public and internally) - to build myself a clear picture of where we are and where we need to go from here.

My initial verdict was that in many ways there have been little to no improvement or movement in some small, but key/important areas many players (myself included) care most about. There are several places in the second to second gameplay where an iterative constant process of improving quality in the greater package should have occurred in each patch or so. With the explicit goal of upping the quality, shave away issues, tighten up the tempo of things, and just generally improve these things in a continuous manner.

This has for a multitude of reasons not happened - but, there has of course been a massive amount of other content, and lots of other improvement happening during this time instead.

With 20:20 hindsight unlocked the prioritization of these quality of life core areas is very needed and should have happened earlier for sure. These priorities have been changed now, and the team has been setting in motion a pretty massive undertaking in this area, which has been going on for some time as I write this.

You've probably already seen an inkling of this in the latest patch (4.6), and there is much, much more to come here in future updates and other efforts connected to this strive to continuously improve the game.

Without promising anything - I sincerely hope the combination of these efforts will coax anyone that has left, that hasn't tried the game for a while or simply isn't playing as much as they used to into giving it a go and liking it again in the near future for sure.

Finally, direct dev communication in general and around these specific areas of what we are doing and how we are going about improving the game is also sorely lackluster in my personal opinion. I think we absolutely need to do better here, and I will try my hardest to get us back to the level of communications we had just after launch and leading up to it - you deserve that.

I hope this feels like a satisfying enough answer for you to start finding our way back to a healthy dialogue!

See you on the Battlefield

Thank you for your response and 4.6 was definitely a step in the right direction. The ping fix along the fluidity of movement have made for a much better experience. Sliding in particular is feeling much closer to BF:1’s solid movement style. Again thank you for your commitment to the game, and if Battlefront:2 is any indication of what we are going to see for BF:V it has a bright future. Now if I could just slide around throwing Limpet Mines like in BF:1 I’d be a very happy player.

No thanks, there is a crazy person who follows me around and kills me in BF1 with Limpets. I don't need to relive that again.

Psh I only got one of my 100+ service stars off you. Just cause I drunkenly chased you around on Saturday nights throw my Limpet at you is no reason for it to not be in game.

Tanks would be unusable at objectives if this happened. There are limitations to each class. Each class needs limitations. If everybody could get panzerfausts and piats, tanks would camp hillsides far back even more.

Supports already have Teller mines, and if I can get next to any tank 3 teller mines plus an Sticky nade is a pretty guaranteed killed. The problem is teller mines are useless on buildings and infy. I’d take a little slower time killing tanks to have this ability.

I still bring it up every chance I get. The Limpet is the best gadget ever, and I loved earning 100 service stars on it in BF:1. Support needs an effective weapon that viable on infy and vehicles and the at pistol just doesn’t cut it.

This is fantastic news! I'm elated. A few questions:

Will Vanilla branded servers be seed-able/searchable without denoting custom?
Will players be able to "Favorite" these community servers?
Will owners be able to provide administration access to sub-admins?
How many servers will a server manager be able to run?

Thanks, Jeff,

You rock!

Much love Jeff!! Thanks for all your efforts on this!

This is the play list from 2 of the top three dog tag takers on PC 235Nuke& ColPotter

Playlist Name:Melee Madness

Mode:Conquest

Maps: Arras Rotterdam Narvick Twisted Steel Devastation

I’m 100% a close quarters combat type of guy. My aims to potato to run with ARs, SLRs, or Snipers. When playing medic I run exclusively the 900 RPM spec’d Thompson. While on support I rotate between the M1917 shotgun, FG-42, or MG-42 depending on the map size, average range of engagements, and squad make. I tend to run with the mark 4 revolver to finish people off. I’m quite happy with the gun play in CQC. I’m currently sitting at 4k+ melee kills split pretty evenly between with kurkri and the club. While I love meleeing my one main gripe is the long animations trigger too often and end up getting me killed. If I die while meleeing I’d prefer it to be my fault vs being stuck in an animation long enough for people to see me. A Dud club detonation is an acceptable death animation. Please bring back the Dud club.

I miss it so much. I always loved the wtf comments in chat from people getting killed by a 100 star Limpet. I still hold hope that it will appear after this comment from tiggr. https://www.reddit.com/r/BattlefieldV/comments/9krtul/comment/e71o8ko

I’d love to see the Limpet Mine return to support. It was such a fun and unique gadget. I’d also like smoke grenades to be an item every class can use, and refillable by ammo crates. Just the smoke grenades not the grenades that cause damage.

DigTw0Grav3s

Assault:

  • Good variety of options.
  • Looking forward to the rumored AA launcher.
  • Frag Grenade Launcher should probably compete with PIAT and 'Faust for slot space.

Medic:

  • The medical crate needs some reason to take it over the pouches.
  • Desperately need some gadget variety here. Less things that explode and more utility.

Support:

  • つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give limpet. つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
  • I'd like to see a bangalore option, with an emphasis on destroying fortifications.

Recon:

  • Best variety out of all of the classes right now. Build gadget variety like this.
  • It would be nice to buff the sniper decoy up a little bit.
  • This class is crying out for a trip flare gadget.
  • Bring back K Bullets to take advantage of the bullet penetration mechanic, and hinder vehicle repairs.

General notes:

  • Current variety is poor.
  • AP mines are ubiquitous, and it's surprising that they aren't more abused than they are now.
  • Focus on utility and teamwork gear instead of explosives and traps.

When in doubt, Limpet out!

I’d love to see transport vehicles take a little more damage before they go immobilized. It seems like the first hit from any explosion they slow to a crawl and you have to abandon them.

As far as vehicles to add I’d love to see B-17s,B-24s, and B-29s. I loved the B-17 in BF1942 and the muromets inBF:1. I’ve always been a fan of the slower heavier bombers vs the current fast ones in game. To round out planes the P-38 lightning just looks to cool not to have on my armory screen.

Soviet Katyusha Rocket trucks. Another one of my BF1942 favorites. It should be weak as a transport, but rain fire death onto the battlefield.

Finally my favorite vehicle from BF1942 submarines. I mean who doesn’t want to stealthily surface next to an enemy boat, climb up on its deck and knife everyone in gun emplacements?
