Pokémon GO

Trainers,

Back in December, we collectively walked past the equivalent distance of Earth to Pluto and now, we’re on a journey past the edge of the solar system! As of May 11, the Pokémon GO community has traveled more than 15.8 billion kilometers, and more adventures still await…

Pokémon GO was developed for people to easily experience classic Pokémon gameplay on their mobile device and catch Pokémon in the real world. As a result, every day, people around the globe go outside, explore the world around them, make some new memories, and get some exercise along the way. We’d love to honor the memories created so far, and our collective journey yet to come, with the Pokémon GO Adventure Week celebration from 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 18 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 25, 2017.

To help you stock up for your upcoming adventure, more items will be awarded from every PokéStop you visit, and Poké Balls will be 50% off in the in-game shop. Your Buddy Pokémon is also in the advent...

Trainers,

We want to give you a peek into certain facets of developing Pokémon GO. For this post, we thought it would be fun to dive into the inner workings of what it takes to create a Pokémon GO loading screen.

We’ve seen that Pokémon GO loading screens and their gentle reminders to stay aware of your surroundings in fun and clever ways have received a lot of attention from the community. Typically, most discussions surrounding a loading screen revolve around the anticipation players feel before they start playing a game, but thanks in large part to Mieke Hutchins—our rock star artist at Niantic—brand and design experts at the Pokémon Company, and the rest of the design team at Niantic, this hasn’t always been the case with Pokémon GO. From outstanding fan art to requests for high-resolution wallpaper versions of each loading screen, we frequently see players sharing their love for the Pokémon GO loading screens. Because we’ve seen such amazing feedback about this artwo...

Trainers,

The biggest update to Pokémon GO is nearly here! Very soon, Trainers around the world will be able to participate in a revamped Gym gameplay experience, including the opportunity to join together with others to battle against powerful Pokémon in the new Raid Battle feature!

New Gym Features and Updates: Starting soon, Gyms are undergoing a major facelift. You’ll soon be able to spin the Photo Disc at Gyms to acquire items just as you do at PokéStops—but that’s only the beginning. More updates to Gym battles are also just around the corner. Gyms are no longer based on Prestige and training. Instead, they now feature six permanent slots that can be filled by the controlling team’s Pokémon. Each Pokémon assigned to these slots must be unique. For example, only one Blissey can be assigned to a Gym at a time. In addition, opposing teams will battle the Pokémon in the order they were assigned to the Gym.

At the heart of the update is a new motivation syst...

Trainers,

We’ve heard that as early as this weekend, some Pokémon rarely seen in Europe, including Kangaskhan and Unown, may begin appearing in certain European cities. This unusual occurrence is predicted to last until August 21. Keep your eyes peeled if you’re in one of the cities listed below, because this may be a great opportunity to add some additional Pokémon to your Pokédex.

While you’re out looking for these Pokémon, consider stopping by your local Unibail-Rodamco shopping center. In addition to being a great place to find these Pokémon, we’ve heard that Lure Modules will be activated at many PokéStops found at these locations throughout the weekends of August 12 and August 19.

Earlier today, Trainers battled against the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo at the Pokémon GO Stadium event in Yokohama, Japan. Thousands of Trainers in attendance were able to successfully catch Mewtwo and add it to their Pokédexes. In the coming weeks, you, too, will have the opportunity to battle and catch Mewtwo with the new Exclusive Raid Battle feature.

Exclusive Raid Battles are similar to existing Raid Battles, with a few notable differences. Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other...
