Hey all!

We hope you’re all well and keeping safe. We know a lot of you out there are social distancing and working from home (we are too!) so what better time than now to work on a new custom map idea, or try out some of the finest the community has to offer!

Before we get going, we also wanted to give a quick shout out to Connor, whose map ‘Cold War’ was featured in our last Spotlight. They’ve since updated the map to v2 and are keen to get players feedback – check it out: SG22XSDQ

1. Golf Quest by Cole – Code: NTLFF3PH

It’s always great to see players creating their own custom campaigns, especially when they feature our new Commander, Wulfar, and his excellent golf skills. In this fantastic campaign by Cole, you’ll need to make strategic use of the Tee-Off groove to cause as much damage as possible to the enemy side, finishing them off if necessary with your troop’s attacks. It wouldn’t be battle golf without a little challenge though – each level will also give you a certain Par l...

Hi everyone!

Following the launch of our recent free expansion Wargroove: Double Trouble, we thought it would be a great time to highlight some more community-made maps for you all to download and try out for yourselves. These will also be featured in-game!

Psst, did you know that we’ve updated the Factions Quiz to include the Outlaws too now? Maybe you should give it another go…

1. Cold War by Connor – Code: DL3KNM7G

This is an interesting map layout – Cold War places your Stronghold in the immediate enemy territory, protected initially only by 2 trebuchets. There’s a central Tower for air unit recruitment, and a Hideout on either side to bring Riflemen and Thieves into the mix. We played this map local multiplayer, but the creator warns against trying out vs AI, which might start destroying its own Stronghold keep walls! Hopefully, the creator makes a v2 of this map to fix this.

2. A Call to the Faithful by CannibalRed1 – Code: PEZXSYPX

Another first-time custom mapmaker, this is a...

We're so happy to finally share with you some exciting new Wargroove merch, in the form of this adorable Caesar plush[theyetee.com]!
(Wargroove vinyl for scale – sold separately via Yetee Records & Boss Battle Records)
We've been working with the team at The Yetee[theyetee.com] on this very good boy for some months now. The idea to make a plush Caesar has been floating around since the early days of Wargroove development, and it was a pleasure to bring him to life with the Yetee’s talented designers and all their plush expertise.
We went through a few iterations until he was just right, consulting the development team here at Chucklefish all the way through. We frequently referred to photos of the dog breed that Caesar is based on, which, if you’re a Caesar fan you’ll undoubtedly know is a Great Pyrenees. The trickiest parts were the ears and the expression, we wanted him to be as cute as can be so, in the end, we went for Caesar’s happy expression which you see when he... Read more

Hi all!

We checked our calendars and it turns out Wargroove is 1 year old today?! It’s crazy to think how much has happened since the game’s launch on February 1st 2019 – from content updates, to bug fixes great and small, new languages, the PS4 release, a physical launch, modding beta, community competitions, Xbox Game Pass for PC launch, events, livestreams, Groove of War tournamentsawesome merch including a vinyl record and the upcoming free DLC!

Before we get too carried away looking ahead to Wargroove: Double Trouble next week, we first wanted to look back at the game’s development, and share our favourite community fanart and dev stories!

Rodrigo – Technical Director
My favourite part of working on Wargroove was when I finished the basic engine port to the Nintendo Switch. It all wrapped up at once, and I was suddenly able to hold a Nintendo console running our game. For someone who grew up enamoured with the SNES, it was a magical moment!

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all suitably excited for the upcoming *free* DLC, Wargroove: Double Trouble! We're getting closer to the stage of being able to announce a release date, but in the meanwhile let's get you better acquainted with the voice talent behind Double Trouble's new Commanders. You'll soon be hearing their fantastic taunts and warcries on the battleground. If you want a reminder of the original Wargroove voice cast, you can find out more in our previous Role Call blog[wargroove.com].

Adrian Vaughan as Wulfar

Adrian has lent his voice to a rag-tag collection of characters in video games such as Crawl, Armello, Paradigm, Budget Cuts 1 & 2, and the upcoming adventure titles Harold Halibut and The Drifter. He's also appeared in a handful of award-winning competition titles he's quietly proud of, plus some radio/TV commercials. When he's not doing his best to be all kinds of sinister or gruff, Adrian spends his time writing bios in the third person - 'cause nobody else will.... Read more

Hey folks!

Last week we had the pleasure of introducing you to our upcoming Commander, Wulfar, the Chieftain of the Outlaws. Today we’ll be introducing two brand new units coming to Wargroove – the Thief and Rifleman! We’ll be revealing more details on what’s included in the upcoming *free* DLC soon…

Outlaw! What law?

The Thief is sneakiest unit in the game. What they lack in strength, they more than make up with cunning and sleight of hand. Thieves can fill their knapsacks with 300 gold by ransacking enemy buildings, and 1000 gold if they manage to pull off a heist on the enemy Stronghold.

Thieves can’t do this alone though! Since they’re unable to attack, they’ll need reinforcements, subterfuge and protection as they journey across the map. Let it be said that opportunity makes a thief!

The Long Ranger

A Rifleman spends their whole life training to become an expert marksman – watch out, you don’t want to be in this unit’s line of sight, lest you be blown across the map! But with ...

Hi everyone!

We know a lot of you have been requesting it, so we have some awesome news for you today… Wargroove will be getting it’s very own physical release on October 29, 2019! That’s right, you’ll be able to walk into a shop, and hold Wargroove in your very own hands! (You could even buy it and play it at home if you want).

We’ve teamed up with the folks at Sold Out to release a retail version of Wargroove on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, called the ‘Wargroove Deluxe Edition‘. What makes it so deluxe I hear you ask? This physical ‘Deluxe Edition’ will include:

  • Physical disc/cartridge copy of the game
  • Downloadable version of the Wargroove Soundtrack by Phonetic Hero and Boss Battle Records
  • Commander sprite sticker sheet
  • Poster map of Aurania
  • Mini Strategy Manual with stats & tips on all units (available in English, French, Italian, German & Spanish)
  • Reversible coversheet – it’s a clean version of the key art without all those messy logos, but complete with standard spine...

Hello everyone! Today we’re doing a public beta of a long awaited PC feature, modding! We’ve been testing it ourselves, but as you are all much more creative than us, we’d really like your help to break it as much as possible while creating cool mods!
How do I access the beta?
Good question! First of all – back up your save files!
Next, you’ll find the beta is available on Steam by using a beta branch. In your Steam library, right-click on the Wargroove entry and select “Properties”. In the “Betas” tab, you should see a drop down and a textbox. In the textbox, enter the password ‘caesarisagoodboy’ and click “Check Code”.
If the code has worked, you should be able to select the ‘public-beta’ option from the drop down box. Once you’ve done that, Steam should install the beta and you’re ready to go!
How do I make a mod?
I have written a document to help you get started, which you can find on the Wargroove wiki[wargroovewiki.com]! (Is this document j... Read more

Happy Friday all!

What an exciting week it’s been. We had the launch of the PlayStation 4 version on Tuesday, and also discussed a bit more about what you can expect from future updates of Wargroove, including a sneak peak of the new map editor tool ‘gizmos’ in action!

There’s still plenty more to reveal this year, including the brand new content we currently have in development, as well as something else… But more on that soon!

Before we start, our congratulations goes out to Red-Jams, the winner of the community-run Groove of War tournament! The Grand Finals took place on Thursday night, with Red-James vs Vitto, streamed on Twitch by host GimbleB. A big thanks goes to the Groove of War tournament organiser team who did a fantastic job of running the sessions. If you’d like to find out more about competitive play or get involved ready for the next tournament, feel free to join the Groove of War Discord.

Alright, on with the maps!

Hi everyone!
The Wargroove Discord[discord.gg] members among you may have seen that last week Chucklefish CEO Tiy divulged some information on what the development team are currently working on, and details on what you can expect in upcoming minor and major patches across all versions. Today we wanted to go into a little more detail!
An official caveat though, the below isn’t a finalised list of content, nor can we 100% confirm that all of these features will make it into the upcoming updates, as some are still in development / testing stages, so keep that in mind! Updates also still need to go through various approval processes, so we can’t estimate exact release dates just yet.
So what’s next for Wargroove?
While we’ve been keeping our heads-down in development since the last major QoL patch[wargroovewiki.com], we’re constantly reading and listening to feedback from all around the player-base – be that from the online competitive scene, map-making fans as well as casual players who are... Read more
