also the upscaling looks really sharp, actually an improvement imo. Still not nearest neighbor though

Thanks for the report, we'll look into the FPS cap and input lag. We'll also be adding different scaling options soon, but if you want nearest neighbour right now you can type ::uiquality 0 into the chat :)

kinda reminds me of the slime monster boss from the toy story 2 game

I was too scared to fight that boss so my dad did it for me, and then I got mad at the next level and he snapped the disc

Hey,

Due to an error on our end, trying to launch Runescape via rs2client.exe doesn't work at the moment (including shortcuts, or pinning to the taskbar).

To properly launch Runescape, you'll have to use the launcher application at C:/Program Files/Jagex/RuneScape Launcher/RuneScape.exe

Creating a shortcut to this app (or pinning it to the taskbar) should let you launch Runescape. Hope this helps - Let me know if it doesn't.

We added a couple of new video effects with Archaeology (Depth-of-field, highlighting) which could be making your computer use a few more resources than it can handle. A lot of the new areas are also a bit more graphically demanding than usual, especially since there's a lot more players gathered in those areas. It sounds like a hardware issue that your CPU cooler can't keep up with the amount of work your CPU is doing, so I'd check:

  • Make sure your CPU fan/cooler is running properly and not full of dust
  • Make sure your CPU isn't overclocked too much

If you want an easy short-term fix just for Runescape, you can turn the framerate down in the graphics settings:

  • Settings -> Graphics -> Foreground FPS

Try setting that to 120 or 60 to reduce the amount of work your computer will be doing.

Hope that helps!

Game updates are instantaneous after the servers come back up. Which they are. Normally this isn’t. A thing. Like yesterday’s or the day before. You could login instantly no game download.

Some updates don't require an update to the game client, but some do - And in those cases, it can take a short while for Google Play to start serving the new version across the globe. We're working on a solution to this longer-term, but for now you might have to wait a few minutes whenever we push one of these updates.

Man with that handwriting you should be writing leather-bound books on alchemy or something

I was really an advocate for exactly this when we were in the concepting stage. Wind direction, wind speed, tacking, gybing and avoiding the boom - there's something about it that feels like it could have the same cosy feel as learning that copper + tin = bronze, while also providing interesting gameplay. Wind is an extremely fundamental part of IRL sailing, so that should be reflected in-game.

The problem is that OSRS needs to have a simple baseline. For an action to feel "old school" it needs to be dead simple, and these kinds of mechanics put a barrier up that makes the baseline gameplay just a bit too complicated. Moving my boat from point A to point B should be as intuitive and simple as we can make it, and then we can layer more simple mechanics (like the gust of wind) to add to the fun and thematics. Realistic wind and sail mechanics sadly require a bit too much thought from the player to exist as foundational mechanics in OSRS.

This is just a cosmetic change to the existing movement, so everything will still behave the same. The "catch-up" is just client-side in case it somehow falls behind where it should be. Movement in general is being looked at more closely, but we don't have any more to say yet.

GameVsLife

Looks good! The only question I have is how will this affect surging, i.e. currently the direction your character faces is the direction you surge, but now with curved paths there are more than 8 possible directions that your character can face, how will surge deal with this?

There's still only eight directions; just the corners are smoothed client-side, so surging is unaffected!

Non-Random-User

any chance we could have dev commands/setting option that allows a grid to appear like that? maybe even with trail where the character is going or just highlight the target square to reduce misclicks

The mobile client highlights the square you've tapped - It'll be coming to desktop once we've made a few extra improvements.

This is great! love it it looks so much better.

Do test the follow dancing beforehand tho, it seems this system might kill it and thats been in the game since forever haha. would be a shame if it would disappear!

Mod Shogun specifically asked about follow dancing during development - It still works :)

Hey everyone! This is a dev blog for an upcoming change to how players and NPCs appear to move in Runescape. I showed it off earlier on this week's livestream, and I've written this for those of you who want a bit more of a deep-dive explanation.

Sorry about this issue - It will be fixed with Monday's update. In the meantime, it appears that having a higher FPS will make the issue less apparent.
