I need some lore journals on the 4 Gruk-Gruks

The twist is that they were just the very first group of gruk-gruks Slayers encountered, and they were murdered in cold blood while trying to welcome new friends to their island.

All others now wear their names with pride as they seek ultimate revenge.

I'm pretty new to the game and I'm wondering if you can comment on the dev/writing process. Was the lore written retroactively to fit the characteristics of the behemoths? Was there an overarching concept preceding the design of the behemoths (besides us being in some a apocalyptic world) that inspired the design of the behemoths? I can see how many of them are inspired by real life animal counterparts and worked on from there like many shows/games seem to do, but I'm wondering if there's more to it than that.

It's late on a Friday and I'm trying to finish up a gold patrol bounty so I can get back to the Deeps, but what the heck. And I should preface all this by saying that I am by no means an expert in all the disciplines at Phoenix Labs. I mean, obviously, who could be? But I mention it in case I unintentionally misdescribe how anyone other than me does their work. This is all based on my experiences.

When I came on board, a previous writer had already established some overarching concepts of the world in concurrence, I think, with the design of the game. Visual design, I'm not positive. And I guess it all stemmed from the original original concepts that the very first Lobsters had in the long-long ago when . As I started in late 2016 we had aether and archonite, some Behemoths up and running with more on the way, airships and the Shattered Isles, the basics of the NPC names and backgrounds, and the name Dauntless. Surely lots of technical and engineering things I don't understand as we...

So like Destinys lore? I see you 😉

Which part? I, er, haven't played since early Destiny 2 and honestly just never had the time to get good enough to advance all that far in the narrative (well, beyond the opening of the game, which... I don't even know if that's the same anymore tbh).

Glad you loved--er, hated--that is, glad it evoked a strong reaction! :) Thanks! This made my afternoon.

The pre-Upheaval world is something we've only lightly touched on in the game so far, but as the Journal grows and expands you should expect to see more of this sort of thing. Yet I also want to try and keep the perspective in this lore to what's reasonably known by our NPCs. That is, even if this material is written in a sort of omniscient 3rd person style, I don't intend to put huge lore reveals into the Journal until the NPCs learn about it too. Well, not unless is makes sense--like here, where it may be true, may not, but there are oblique references to things the NPC thinks are known to be true. Such as the idea of manufactured Behemoths.

It's been mentioned in a few places I think, but the Orrery--the big knowledge institution in St. Avellaine where Arkan Drew, Priyani, and many others studied, and no it's not a literal Orrery but they took their name *from* a literal o...

This is starting to seem simmilar to the lore of attack on titan

I guarantee you I've never seen it or read it in any incarnation. But sounds like I might want to... someday. In the far, far future.

Cool hunt pass, nice mogs no complaints.

Missing banner plant makes me cry a little.

Loved you added vault coins as rewards.

Contracts are meh... A kill quest... Snore, make it so I have to hunt a certain behemoth or have one guarding some Intel I need to investigate, I like the idea of it leading up to an event like escalations but loads of cool stuff could of been done, missed oportunity.

Investigating Intel should be... Investigating Intel, clues like feathers or spines from a new unreleased behemoth you find while out on hunts.

As u/jordanpowpow mentions elsewhere, this will be the last Hunt Pass to rely on Contracts as a means of progressing the story. They have been a useful workaround for releasing quests at more specific or controlled times, but we now have a system in place that allows for more flexibility and won't require store interaction. So get ready for more story-driven quests tied to the Hunt Pass in the future, but not the store.

As for the Intel, we are working on some things very much along the lines of what you describe. Lore objects (name TBD) will, in the the coming months (I can't yet be more specific) be part of our new Journal system. You want lore? Intel? Stories? We are slowly but surely opening the nozzle on that firehose of information and I couldn't be happier about it.

Even before we bring in the lore objects we aim to have Journal entries that are straight-up illustrated narrative (one of our new artists whose reddit handle I don't have has done some brilliant work I can't...

What are your thoughts on this Hunt Pass' cosmetics and theme?

Just meh, they were not my cup of tea.

Which item from the Hunt Pass track did you like the most and why?

This season I'm only using the Free track and the best there were Platinum (now I get them while not spending any) and Ace Chips. If I have to pick just one then definitely Platinum.

Did you purchase any of the Hunt Pass cosmetics sold in the store?

Nope. Just like with the Hunt Pass' cosmetics they weren't my style.

What are your thoughts so far on these Seismic contracts? How do you feel about the approach of releasing them over a period of time?

Not a fan to be honest. It's somehow confusing. I didn't get the idea how to get the Seismic Intel until I took a look in the Hunt Pass and found a Contract in the Store. Not sure when exactly new Contracts are available.

How do feel with the idea of having these contracts as a regular part of Hunt Passes moving forward?

I hope this won't be a regular thing in the future, unless it's improved to be less confusing and more fun to do.

Did you find the cosmetics designs that drew inspiration from real world sources, such as the Guerrilla Headband and Ballistic Repeaters, appealing? Why or Why not?

I couldn't see the Headband properly as it's hidden under the hair, so I have no comment on that. The Ballistic Repeaters were creative but felt somewhat out of place in Dauntless. Nothing really bad, but also not great Imo.

Although this will be the last HP with Contract-driven narrative, if it helps: The Seismic Contracts will be dropping weekly. As you earn Seismic Intel there and elsewhere you'll start to unlock separate, story-based quests. These aren't time-gated by the calendar so much as they're gated by the amount of Intel you've collected--but since the contracts *are* looking at the calendar, we were aiming to keep the story coming over a longer period of time.

But if wishes were fishes we'd all cast nets, as my favourite baliset player once said, and intentions don't equal reception (Gurney Halleck didn't say that part, I added it). So we've taken the feedback on Contracts to heart and are going to work hard to improve the narrative flow for the future Hunt Passes. You'...
