You have save option, but out of the missions, I mean. You can save your progress in Campaign mode when you finish your mission. Inside mission you can save and exit to continue when you want but from the point you went out of the game. You cannot save to recover a save point inside the map. This is ironman mode and it's a core mechanic of this game.

Yes, in the actual version of the game the issue is not fixed yet but very soon will be. And you can continue killing zombies without problem because although there is not being showed all the killed zombies are being counted.Best regards.
