Hi
Are all the client settings on lowest? I’d also try turning on “Run clients with DX9” in the launcher settings, although it should default to this.
Does changing the resolution / window mode change anything? Is the MacBook plugged into a power outlet? I know that Wine sometimes struggles when any sort of power saving kicks in.
This is going to be really difficult for us to debug. Officially we only support 10.13 and higher, and I don’t think we have any Macs going back to 2011 or machines that have older versions of MacOS on.
What’s the ticket number?
Read moreWork is still happening in the background, but I don’t want to put a date on DX12 yet. While it’s always nice to be able to tell players when to expect a feature, this is one of the low-level parts of EVE that needs special attention. I want to be upfront and say that it may even ship next year. When we deliver it, it must have tangible benefits to users and work with all our existing content.
Hilmar has touched on some of the work we are doing internally in a recent Twitch stream, and there is another tonight. In short: We’re working on some of the lowest level, core parts of EVE, with code that has largely remained untouched for a very long time. This includes compilation of the client, window management, the networking stack and rendering. We want to ensure that we have a solid foundation for EVE going into the 3rd decade, and DX12 is certainl...

I’m not part of the launcher team, but I’ve just looked at the patch notes for the beta. This makes reference to a possible fix for this.
If it’s causing a serious issue then consider opting into the latest beta for the launcher.
Hi
I know the black screen issue is very frustrating. We’ve been investigating it and have found a number of defects that could be causing it, some which almost looked the same, but turned out to have vastly different causes.
We’ve worked with a few players on a set of steps that helped them get back into the game.
Make sure you’re running the latest patch for your OS. There were important driver updates deployed by Apple for AMD based graphics cards a few months ago.
Remove the existing EVE install first. This will be in a path similar to
~/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP
Failure to remove the existing install means the black screen issue may continue.
Reinstall EVE, but turn on the ‘Download the full EVE Game client’ option inside the launcher.
Once downloaded, run the game. You may see a black screen with a spinning circle at the bottom left. Press escape and this will be bypassed.
This should land you at the character selection scr...

Thanks for flagging.
I’ve just tested with and without CAS, and it’s very similar with it disabled:
I’d love to see higher resolution textures in the future
The zoom on the planet is supposed to be showing what bad sharpening looks like
…to illustrate the type of issue that can occur when sharpening is applied incorrectly. There is artifacting at the edge of the planet, the gradient has lost its smoothness and the surface of the planet is starting to look too pixelated.
There was a problem with the moon image in the devblog. It seemed that the dimensions / zoom went a bit wrong. We’ve replaced it with a better version. Thanks for flagging it
The load on CPU causing the noise is EMI. It’s a very common issue with onboard sound. Many people use USB soundcards to help with this.
The 100% CPU usage that you’re reporting with EVE is something we’re investigating. We’ve not been able to reproduce it in house yet. I’m speaking to a number of people in the community who are experiencing it to try and reproduce it. I’d ask you to file a bug report so we can get your system info, as this issue seems to be very user specific. Feel free to tag me in it if you do.
Could you describe the noise?
It almost sounds like background noise that can happen when the audio isn’t shielded. This normally sounds like hisses, clicks, pops and can often vary with system load.
An easy way to test this is to disable the audio in the EVE client and see if you still hear it. If you did, that would indicate it’s not the EVE client causing the audio directly.
New updates for Windows Virus & Threat Protection have been deployed by Microsoft. The version this issue was occurring in was 1.313.1817.0
I’ve tested the reported file on definitions 1.313.1822.0 and 1.313.1831.0 on 2 separate machines. It is not flagged to me anymore.
Users should get the update automatically when Windows next checks. If you’d like to update manually, then you can go to ‘Windows Security -> Virus & Threat Protection -> Check for updates (button)’.
If anyone experiences further issues, please file a ticket with as much information as possible (including your definition version) and we will look into it.

Hi all
I would just like to thank everyone for filing reports when these situations occur. Rest assured; we investigate them with the highest priority. If you ever have a security concern related to EVE, then always file a support ticket so we can investigate.
Unfortunately, we see false positives for EVE occasionally and this appears to be one of those times. These usually coincide with a patch release, with the new files triggering the heuristics engine for some anti-virus vendors. Once these vendors have updated their definitions, the issue stops happening. Looking at past support tickets, we seem to have a number filed within the same day or two, and then nothing after. This is the expected pattern with false detections.
If anyone encounters a security issue in the future, please let us know so we can investigate it.

This is a known defect with SLI.
I am currently working with partners to try and resolve the issue.
Best regards
Hi
Do you use SLI? We have a known defect if so. It may also impact firework effects.
I’m currently working with partners on a fix.

If you have not changed your client to be 32bit, it should be running the 64bit version.
You can check this by going into the launcher settings menu (top right, first button) and checking if “Run clients with 64bit” is enabled.
I just checked with the launcher team, and they’ve confirmed that the launcher will currently stay as 32bit for the moment. There is little advantage to moving it to 64bit currently, although this may change in the future.
I’m afraid I can’t comment on connection issues, as it is not my area. I’d encourage you to raise a ticket and check the mega thread here: Tranquility Connectivity Issues Megathread
2 - The minimum specification is simply the minimum specification that we will offer support for and test against. We often see players launch the game on systems with lower specs - even though they may have a less than ideal game experience.
When the new minimum specification comes into force on the 26th of February, we will not be releasing or making any additional changes on that day which will cause the client to use more memory over our current 64bit client. The 64bit naturally uses a bit more memory, as that is inherent to a 64bit OS and applications.
It does mean that in the future we may release features that will start to use memory above our current 2GB minimum specification.
The 2GB minimum specification has been a concern for a while, as Windows 10 64bit has a minimum specification of 2GB for th...

The 32bit client has not been deprecated yet and is still an option for those that would like to use it.
There is no new code related to this change that has been deployed yet (client or server). This will happen on or after the 26th of Feb, and will simply be the disabling of the 32bit client.
I appreciate that some players are experiencing connection issues which are being worked on, but I can assure you it’s not related to the upcoming 64bit change.
