Is the weekly cap pretty low? I dislike the idea of a cap in general, but if it's high enough it won't be a big deal

There is a cap yup, but it is fairly high. We expect most people will not hit the cap weekly.

Wouldn’t piling your friends list technically be beneficial because you would then have a larger pool of players for your Top 5 to choose from? Since, of course, you’re wanting the 5 highest possible contributors to go towards your weekly pool.

Only if they are actively playing the game ;)

My whole 3 people on my friends list. I've had this Xbox acct since the original Xbox days and I have a total of 3 friends and one of those is my wife and she will never play anthem. Hooray

The 4th scorer can be the 'everyone else' bucket that random people you have played with fill. So you would be one short of maximizing your top 5. I'm sure a kind Freelancer from this community can fill that last slot!

Does the xp I get from my 5 top friends only include the xp that they directly contribute to their "alliance bucket" or does it also include the xp that they get from the other people in their expeditions and strongholds and such?

Also, if one of my top 5 friends is in an expedition with me, does that mean that the xp they earn in that expedition is counted twice towards my total alliance xp? Meaning the xp they earn in the expedition with me is added to my own bucket both when the expedition ends and when its added at the end of the week?

It includes the xp they get from the other people in their expeditions.

Your alliance xp is the same as the expedition xp you get from all members of the group, friend or not. After the expedition, a bonus is applied to the amount your friend got, which is then applied to their contribution to you for the week.

Will it also use an internal game friends list?

No. We have a Favorites list which you add people you had fun playing with to without the 'commitment' of being friends (which requires a request and an accept). The Favorites list is just a one-way relationship.

The 'Friends' list in Anthem is a mirror of your platform's friend list.

So if i am a solo player without friends on origin, am i screwed?

Not at all! We also reward you for playing with anyone else ('randoms'). This is represented by one bucket, which would take the place of a slot a friend would fill.

Can you clarify what you mean by people on my friendslist playing without me? Does that mean the more people on my friendslist who play anthem, the more coin I get each week?

No - we only count the top 5 friends each week. There is no benefit to piling up your friend list other than having lots of people to play with.

So how it works is:

You play the game with or with your friends.

Your friends play the game with or without you.

You are earning progress through the Alliance system as you play, and building a bigger and bigger bucket as you progress through the different tiers of the system.

As your friends play, they are filling that bucket with their own xp (plus a large bonus for being your friend).

At the end of the week, we tally the top 5 contributors to your Alliance and you are awarded based on how much they filled the bucket you created.

I thought I heard it only counts your Top 5 friends.

This is correct!

@ u/BenIrvo and Bioware team: Is there a way to friend a person in game? I can't seem to find a way to do it.

You can send a friend request to someone you are on an expedition with via the Social menu. At launch, in the social hub, you can also interact with that person to bring up Social Tools and invite them.

For console players, will our chosen consoles friends list count towards the alliance? Or do we need to add players through the game for this work?

Yes, we're using your PSN/Xbox/Origin friend list.

So this is an example of one of the things that has changed since we locked the demo down. Just to be completely transparent, we took the metal platings (ie: gold) and wear states and locked all but the defaults behind progression in the game. No mtx or coin or anything, just good old fashioned rpg progression.

I think NOT having a vote kick option is ripe for abuse. What happens when someone wants to troll and just run around in circles not helping? Or worse than that your giving us no way to deal with someone who decides to spam the mic with loud noises or hate speech.

We have a 'mute' feature which silences that person and a 'block' feature which would avoid all future matchmaking with that person.

NVZ-

Just give us an option to play strongholds in private mode maybe?

Private mode means solo play with no matchmaking. Strongholds are 4 player content and are balanced as such.

You do have the option to form a premade (squad) while you are in Fort Tarsis. Inviting the other players from Start of Expedition forms a 'private' squad, bypasses matchmaking, and gets you in the stronghold as a team.

I was doing the stronghold mission with two friends and a random joined our group (public). He proceeded to AFK and there was no way to trigger the boss fight. I saw no way to report or kick him in the menus. We messaged him, waited for 20m, and gave up. Anyone have a similar experience?

We definitely have support for afk/activity detection and auto-kick. It may not have made it into the demo, but I will investigate. We did not add in vote kick as it is ripe for abuse.

Oh so arrival mechanics are when you load into a friends game? Can you tell me a little more about them? Are they like Destiny2's respawn animations? Sorry for all the questions but the animations are the only thing not really covered in the customization stream.

It's the animation that plays when you enter the game (like a superhero landing), whether you're starting a new mission or joining halfway through.

Absolutely! That's still cosmetics purchased from currency earned from playing the game. I think there is speculation at least that there will be a large amount of cosmetics that are separate from the currency earned in game and only from a 'premium' currency source we have to straight up pay for.

Not a thing. If we sell it for 'premium' you will have another way to obtain it by playing the game. There are no 'premium only'.

CoolHandJohnson

What will they be locking behind “premium currencies”? What won’t I be able to get just by playing the game?

Not locked behind "premium currency", but you will not be able to obtain pre-order nor Legion of Dawn items by playing the game. For those you must either pre-order or buy the Legion of Dawn edition.

Other than that, nothing.

ag3on

Will be there any world/region chat except your javelin team? Quest hub chat? Optional player made channels..etc?

No text chat at launch, no. But we hear you :)

PiCkL3PaNtZ

how long does it take playtime to earn enough coins for a cosmetic like 24 hours? or is it resonable??

Tough to say. It depends on the thing you want, how much you play, and what kind of things you do when you play. Can you buy the entire catalog by playing 30min a day? No. Can you target a thing you want, then save up some Coin by playing the game in order to buy it? Yes - but again it depends on the quality of the thing you want. Cooler stuff usually costs more. Hopefully that makes sense.

RewindSwine

I think this will be crucial and with how transparent they have been already I’m confident they’ll eventually release one. As of right now I’ve not heard anything about one though. Have they mentioned anything about creating one once the game launches? Just something I would love to see so the community has a solid reference to how they plan on expanding the game.

Stay tuned...
