We are back with another developer update, a series of posts where we discuss upcoming features, changes, and where we stand on some of the most pressing issues in the game. As always, we’ll revisit some of the topics mentioned in previous posts before jumping into new ones.

Dedicated Servers

In our AMA earlier this month, there were a lot of questions regarding dedicated servers and when they are releasing. Rest assured, we are still on track for the originally planned Summer 2019 release date. We will be holding another test during the next PTB.

One of the benefits of dedicated servers is more stable and consistent connections, which should lead to more fair feeling hits. We have ironed out most of the major issues at this point, but we will be keeping a close eye out for any issues that may arise and will keep you posted as we roll out dedicated servers and implement new features.

Game Issues

Matchmaking

Mid-Chapter 3.1.0 Q&A

News & Announcements

We will be at Gamescom! We will not have a booth, but we will have a presence. This is the first time we'll be going to Europe and we look forward to meeting all of you.

Bill is still coming to the PS4. Do not worry, we are on it! We hope to have him and the rest of the missing content available as soon as possible (in a hotfix if possible).

Q&A

Freddy

Is there a good reason why Freddy starts a trial with his teleport on cooldown?

Spawning next to the killer can be frustrating and feels unfair. Allowing Freddy to teleport to a generator that you spawned next to right away would feel very similar. We decided it was best to avoid this by putting the dream projection on cooldown as soon as the match starts. As always, we'll be monitoring how this plays out and make changes as needed. We are not opposed to the idea, but we also don't feel it is necessary at this time.

Have you considered keeping old Freddy in the...

Over the years, Dead by Daylight has changed significantly, and we have adapted the way we create maps along with it. These days, a lot of work goes into making sure maps feel as fun and fair as possible, and we have developed new tools to help with that. Also, to ensure that older maps aren’t left behind, we have started updating existing maps to implement these new tools and the knowledge we’ve learned over the past few years. The first map update is Badham Preschool - the map that originally launched with the release of CHAPTER VI: A Nightmare on Elm Street™

Variations

While the maps in Dead by Daylight are procedurally generated, there are a set of rules that the game follows. This includes details like what shape the map should be and where the unique buildings and landmarks should appear. The game then fills in the empty spaces with generic tiles, which are rotated randomly to further add to the variety.

With this update, four addit...

People of the fog,

The Dead by Daylight team is happy to announce the upcoming release for The Nightmare rework. As per our presentation of the rework on the Third Anniversary Livestream, we have done major changes to The Nightmare’s general gameplay, power and add-ons.

Sleeping Mechanics

Microsleep

On the verge of falling asleep, Survivors facing The Nightmare constantly dip in and out of consciousness. The Killer is invisible at a distance, intermittently visible from 32 meters to 16 meters, and always visible in close range, making him difficult to track as he approaches.

New Sleep Cycle

Survivors will fall asleep passively. Successfully hitting a Survivor will also pull them into the Dream World immediately. Sleeping Survivors are subject to The Nightmare’s Dream Traps, and the terror radius is replaced with a lullaby, making it difficult to pinpoint how close the Killer is.

Wake-up Mechanics

The wake-up action can be used on sleepin...

UPDATE ON PREVIOUS TOPICS

The Nightmare Rework

We have revealed new details about Freddy through the Third Anniversary livestream as well as a follow up stream this past Thursday. If you missed either of these streams, you can find the archived versions linked below.

Our team has been hard at work tweaking and polishing Freddy since our last Developer Update, and we are almost ready to share a playable version with you. FEATURES & CONTENT

  • Feature - Added the ability to rotate characters in the lobby.
  • Feature - Added new menu and lobby music.
  • Content - Added a new Killer (The Ghost Face).

BALANCE

Gameplay:

  • All Killer swing animations have been modified to match the distance at which they can hit a survivor. This was done to help mitigate situations where a Killer would hit a survivor but their weapon/ hand would not look like it was reaching the Survivor.
  • In addition to Killer swing animations matching their hit distance we have also added swing VFX to mitigate when hits looked like they should have missed targets when in fact they found a target and hit. (There will be more work done to make hits look better when they connect)
  • Added stun VFX for Killers when hit by pallets.
  • Survivors will now turn their heads where their camera is looking. This happens when a Survivor interacts with an object in the environment and when they are not downed or incapacitated.
  • Adjusted fast vault conditions: Players can no longer ...

People of the Fog,

It has been just over a week since Ghost Face debuted on the Player Test Build (PTB). Since then, we have been closely monitoring his performance and reading through your feedback. Upon further consideration, we determined that it would be best to address the state of Ghost Face before the official release.

Shortly after reaching the PTB, we noticed many people were experiencing issues while playing Ghost Face. Survivors were able to detect the Killer too easily, making it difficult to take advantage of his power. With your feedback, we have identified several issues and listed some of the changes we have made in order to address them below.

Audio

  • The global audio cue when activating Night Shroud has been removed
  • The range of Ghost Face’s audio has been reduced to 8m from 16m when Night Shroud is active

The audio cue would put Survivors on high alert and cause them to keep an eye out for Ghost Face. With this removed, Ghost Fa...

Ghost Face

Since the PTB launched two days ago, we have received a lot of feedback on Ghost Face. We are currently working to find a solution to the following issues:

  • Cancelling stealth is too easy
    • In addition, there is currently a bug which allows the survivors to reveal Ghost Face before Night Shroud is activated, causing him to be instantly ...

People of the Fog,

The Dead by Daylight team is happy to announce the newest addition to our roster of Killers; none other than Ghost Face himself.

NEW KILLER: THE GHOST FACE

The Ghost Face, more commonly known as Jed Olsen to his acquaintances, is a devious Killer that stalks his victims from the shadows. Two of his victims would report being followed on their way home just days before their deaths. He could watch the same victim for weeks, monitoring their routine while snapping photos and planning his entry. When he got the urge to kill, he would visit the most vulnerable victim on his list and quickly make his way inside their house.

The Ghost Face’s Power: Night Shroud

When the power gauge is full, Night Shroud can be activated, completely hiding his terror radius. When active, The Ghost Face can lean around corners and stalk Survivors. Stalking a Survivor for a short time will leave them exposed. Attacking or being detected by Survivors w...

People of the Fog,

We’re all eagerly awaiting our Third Anniversary Livestream this Friday, which will be full of reveals, laughs, and information on the coming year. In the meantime, we have a few announcements that we are excited to share with you.

GHOST FACE IS COMING TO DEAD BY DAYLIGHT

The Dead by Daylight team is proud to announce that "The ICON of Halloween"®, Ghost Face®, will be joining the roster of killers. Ghost Face is a natural stalker, lurking in the shroud of night, who observes his victims before striking.

Acquaintances are a dangerous deception. The workplace is filled with them; strangers seated beside us, five days a week. A distant familiarity grown from habit; the blanks filled with assumptions as we forget how little we know, until proven otherwise. No one thought the man seated on their left could be responsible for the murder of a dozen people. Until proven otherwise. The Ghost Face® took full advantage of that fact, blending in the everyday. He would have gott...

Earlier this week, we asked you what statistics you would like to see. Since then, we have collected data on some of the most popular requests and designed some fancy graphics for them. There are a few things to note:

  • This data does not include the recent PTB.
  • Data involving rank was collected shortly before a rank reset (April 1st to April 7th).
  • These are very general statistics, so use caution before drawing any conclusions.

Average Party Size

This is the overall average, between all ranks and platforms, of how many other Survivors players are queuing up with. More than half of the total Survivors are playing solo, while only 3-6% are playing in a full Survive With Friends group. This is based on the group size out of the total number of matches.

PATCH NOTES 2.6.3

FEATURES & CONTENT:

  • Feature - Added support for Twitch Game On.
  • Content - Added a new Survivor (Ashley J. Williams).

ATTENTION

The new character, Ash J. Williams is available with Auric Cells in the in-game store as soon as the update is released.

The DLC will be available later today on all platforms and will include an exclusive item.

BALANCE:

  • Changed the Decisive Strike stun time to 5 seconds, with the Survivor being free to move after 1 second.
  • The Enduring perk now affects Decisive Strike's stun.

With feedback from the PTB and Live, we have changed the Decisive Strike stun time to 5 seconds, with the Survivor being free to move after 1 second. This should allow for the survivor to have ~ 4 seconds at a base to try and escape the killer after the stun is successful. When Enduring is used, the stun will be reduced to ~2.8 seconds. Of those 2.8 seconds the survivor will get a head start of ~ 2.28 seconds which makes escaping possible but much harder.

BUG FIXES:

  • Fixed an issue t...
