Yea I know, it’s fucked up

This is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

We're waiting to see how it goes.

My .02 is that mobile players are better than most people think they are, and we wanted to try giving our pools a chance to stretch their legs a little more.

If we see it negatively affecting the experience of mobile/switch players in the wild, we'll make changes, but there's a good chance it increases the quality of matches for people that in both pools.

Also worth noting that most of the people that play within the first couple hours of launch are our best players, so it's not necessarily indicative of the play experience in the days or even hours down the road. We're watching it closely though.

Tracking and investigating now.

They still haven’t fixed the issue where the touch screen controls/HUD appears when playing with a controller. Happens 100% of the time in squad matches

I can give an updoot on this one.

We had a fix for this that made it most of the way through testing, but caused a worse bug on some devices that we found too late to fix and test enough to be comfortable with potential knock ons, so we reverted the change to investigate more.

Mr_Odwin

This seems odd. Did you read what you replied to? A mobile controller player (under all circumstances) will go into a PS4/Xbox lobby but a Switch controller player will always go into a Switch/Mobile lobby?

Yes, what he said is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

Update. Fix has been committed, but no ETA of when the patch will go live yet (depends on progress for other fixes), but will update this post when I know more.

edit: New updoot. Latest is that we're going to be pushing a patch sometime later this week that will contain this fix along with some others.

Honest question for those who frequent this forum daily:

I remember an Epic employee frequenting this sub on a very regular basis yet, when they merged lobbies I haven’t seen a single comment from them.

Has this employee made any comments that I have not seen?

/u/FreightTrainUSA is here every day. I mostly post on patch days when I'm tracking issues, but I lurk on my non-epic associated account.

Well, what are your thoughts on this issue?

Similar to what I said when we announced it. I generally think mobile players are a lot better than most people think they are (including mobile players themselves). We're watching it and if we see the quality of the matches degrading we'll make changes, but in the meantime we feel this is at least a change worth trying that could result in a better experience for both communities. :)

I made a post on these here, and this is u/MichaelMcRooney ‘s response.

K. Gonna have a chat. The mobile version doesn't have multiple lines because it negatively affects performance. We're looking into ways to give more options to optionally add more lines in the future for people with more powerful devices or people willing to take the performance hit, but other things are higher priority atm. :/

But I hope we can finally get it, or be able to turn it on/off.

Hola. Actually have an updoot on this. Most of the performance issues with the widget were worked out over a bunch of changes over time. Making the killfeed optionally support more lines is something that's on the todo list now, but eta is dependent on how priorities shake out. I can't say anything other than soonish. :/

I lurk here on my main account, but I'm mostly only active on this account here on patch days. /u/freighttrainusa is here pretty much every day though.

Was it being handled on the client side? Couldn't the server log how everyone died and the client just grabs it and prints it on there?

Sorry I have no clue how this works really that's what I thought though

The message wasn't the expensive part. It was the widgets themselves that were expensive. We've been slowly optimizing our UI (also unfortunately de-optimizing other parts of it, which is going to be a focus in the coming weeks). As a result the killfeed isn't as big a concern as it used to be, so we just need to carve out some space in our list of priorities for it. :)
