So updates stored on a shelf to sprinkle in last second if something fails to reach launch?

I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the term ‘shelf’! It’s more that we need to get ahead of ourselves with updates, so we can cancel projects and not effect the release calendar like now

Excited to see what it is, hoping that there's the "no lamp/bxp" amnesty period like there was for invention.

There will indeed be an embargo period, same as previous skill launches.

I thought Osborne said he'd explain how come there was so little content these past 3 months? Did I miss it or did you skip that part as well?

It’s in there, reasonably briefly. I talked about the hole that Weapon Diversity and others blew in the schedule, and how I’m making changes to the Episodic Content team to make sure that we have a bit of contingency because an update hasn’t made it out.

Could have sworn you were the person who introduced it to the community and thus were the one who communicated about it. I'm not talking about the retrospect here btw. Am I misremembering?

If you are not upper management, then what are you? You're too influential and/or competent to be middle management and have too many people below you to be lower management. Are you actually above upper management, on the Board of Directors then?

And while I have you here, many people here are under the impression that outside investors/owners have any say on the internal direction of Jagex Ltd. Could you unambiguously state that this it not at all the case and that you as a company have full autonomy on how to achieve whatever profits they require of you?

I was happy to be the one who presented it to the community. I knew enough about it and liked the project. Only a small number of mods are happy appearing on livestreams, as it can be a very daunting experience, and for some reason I am one of them!

I am technically middle-management, but my role is a little complicated. I am ‘product owner’ for the Episodic Content team, so am directly responsible for the regular game content (and therefore directly culpable for the lack of updates, which I will talk about in the next livestream), I am responsible for the designers, and - in most instances - am responsible for the game’s design. In terms of management, there are two layers above me within RuneScape, and there are other levels of management above me in Jagex. That’s probably a lot more detail than you need! It may not be hugely high up in the company, but I have enough oversight (I hope) to give you a good idea of what we are making and why.

I can unambiguously state that I have nev...

You guys, the J-mods, are the ones behind Runescape’s true success.

Uh, the current Jmods only inherited a succesful game. I don't think any of them worked there back in 2004 when RS started becoming popular and succesful

And you know Jmods like Osbourne are upper management, right? He's the one who wanted to add RunePass, for example. Investors had nothing to do with that

Edit: Most of the currect J-mods*, large majority though

I’m definitely not upper management, and was not behind Runepass, but I was a fan of what it was trying to do (if not how it was communicated and some of the details).

You have checked in so early that it hasn’t done a cross server count, and it’s put up an (admittedly duff) temporary amount.

Who in their right mind would approve that kind of dumb logic to be implemented and passed on to the live game? How is it fair to people that are participating? You keep creating more and more spaghetti code and no one is to blame but the unqualified idiots that approve it and allow it to be sent to the live game! This kind of incompetence may seem minor if it were to happen once in a while but the sheer amount of repetitive and consistent inadequacy in update after update just piles up and gives a very clear impression that things are being run by incompetents that cannot streamline the development process and fixing such recurring problems is beyond their unqualified professional capabilities.

This is something that has likely been in game for some time. We will look at it on Monday.

You seem more active lately. Filling in for Shauny?

No one could out-Shauny Shauny!

Good afternoon all,

Over the weekend, we looked into an issue where up to 60,000 tickets were being registered as ‘submitted’ immediately after each raffle refresh.

We have resolved this problem, which was related to global variables not resetting properly, and last year’s tickets being submitted into this year’s raffle. No prizes were given to those players who were erroneously entered into the raffle.

This is one of a few hiccups we have had with the raffle this year, so we wanted to give a little something back. You will each be receiving an additional 10 raffle tickets later today (we will broadcast when this is live). We will also be increasing the number of prizes given out each day by roughly one third, as shown below (the increased number of prizes will not be visible on the Raffle interface or Balthazar chat until next Monday).

The updated numbers are:

  • Monday: Protean packs – 20,000 -> 27,000
  • Tuesday: Bank deposit box – 40,000 -> 54,000
  • Wednesday: Deathtouched darts ...

Hope you're not giving the 10 raffle tickets to accounts below 150 total too

They'll get the tickets (it's blanket, to everyone) but won't be able to use them until 150 total level

Sebastiaan_RS

don't want to encourage raffle rigging

give every dude that rigs the raffle 10 raffle tickets on every single alt

jamflexpls

The 150 limit is on there to prevent this

Aviarn

There is a level requirement now entering. If flarefox wants to use his 4.000 alts to enter now, he'll need to get all his alts to 150+ total.

Yep, we have this 150 limit in place to combat multiple accounts.

JagexOsborne

They'll get the tickets (it's blanket, to everyone) but won't be able to use them until 150 total level

Quick clarification, and slight difference: pre-150, players won't get tickets in their currency pouch, but will when they hit 150

Myraell

Help me out here, please; which one of these official Runescape website news posts is this mentioned in?
https://i.imgur.com/TrZtp9m.png

It’s on the official forums, has an official broadcast, and all players will find the tickets automatically on their characters

Necromaner_101

150 total level is literally level 5 in all skills. I'm sorry, but what is a level 5 gonna do with any golden gear?

It’s the other stuff they will value. The raffle works really well with new players and gives them a reason to come back (beyond the game of course)

DragonSlaayer

Everyone getting 10 raffle tickets is the same as everyone getting 100 raffle tickets or everyone getting 0 raffle tickets. It's a raffle. Everyone entering a raffle 10 times is the same as everyone entering once.

With the increase in prizes, it means you can double down on the item you most want

Slayer & DG - Slayer is being filled out already and DG is filled out.

This completely flies in the face of what they said earlier:

Objectives: Unlocks at all levels, New ways of training, worthwhile unlocks/key milestones, and a form of grace-period.

99-120 DG does not have: unlocks at every level, new ways of training, worthwhile unlocks/key milestones (except at 115)

99-120 Slayer is even worse at not having unlocks, new ways to train, or worthwhile unlocks/key milestones.

/u/JagexOsborne Can you please explain how you consider DG to be in a good place, and slayer getting there, when they don't come even close to your stated objectives for 99-120 in skills?

(To put a silver lining here, the Core Game Experience team is seriously piquing my interest. I'm disappointed to see quests aren't a high priority.)

In the livestream, we said that Slayer is being filled out over time but isn’t there yet, and some on the sofa said that DG was full, while I was saying that players felt that Elite Dungeons had meant that top end Dungeoneering was redundant for some. I feel the write up is simplifying it a tad.

Regardless, I am of the opinion that we shouldn’t necessarily hold back from doing 120s if others aren’t completely finished, in the same way that we shouldn’t be holding back on new skills if people feel that other skills should be reworked first. There should be a mix of new challenges and reworks in the game (personally, a skew towards reworks), but we shouldn’t resist making new content

I can fix it if you think that's the case. What should I say instead of what's currently there?

I don’t think you have any disagreement from us that Slayer would benefit from filling out from 99-120. I think there’s a mix of opinions about whether DG is fine as is, or needs filling out or fixing, particularly in light of Elite Dungeons. We didn’t say it on the stream, but Slayer is more of a priority to us regardless

Please don’t feel you have to update the tldw: you’re not an official spokesperson for us, and it’s so good that you are impartial.

The major problem with familiarizaiton is just finding it's worth.

You either play it to unlock the xp outfit, or play it for the triple charms. But why do you need triple charms unless you're rushing 99 summoning? You get more than enough charms due to 120 slayer or grinding combat via invention or etc to get your summoning goals with ease, even without factoring in DXP weekends.

At time of writing, it is the least played D&D in the game. That’s at least a cause for concern. You could argue that it’s not doing harm, but it’s a potential piece of content for people to get lost in, it has to be tested whenever we make systemic changes, and it will be updated if there are NPC reworks that relate to it.

One of the big problems I see with Jagex's plan is their idolization of Iconic Content. They want to remaster it so it's even more relevant.

I have a good feeling that if Jagex were to "remaster it" it would no longer be iconic in the way you are hoping for.

For the purpose of the conversation, let’s change the term from iconic to memorable. I think ‘iconic’ is narrowing the definition.

I think your argument is that there are areas and content that have never been reworked. Let’s use the Mountain Camp as an example. We could focus on graphically reworking it and adding new content there. There are a few issues that I have with that: players spend 1/100th of their time there as opposed to Relleka; since so little time is spent there, it is not hugely damaging the perception of the game; if we added content there, it would have little recognition or impact so I don’t think many people would even try to interact with it; and it shares so many assets with Relleka anyway, that it’s probably worth updating Relleka and it’s ‘Fremennik kit’ as the headliner and the Mountain Camp as a patch note or similar anyway.

I’m not saying that those areas won’t be remastered, but it’s why I feel that memorable and well used areas should be first
