Following this update I'm not able to hand in the patches from the crafting event. Attempting to use the patches on the Master Crafter gets me a message of nothing interesting happens.

That's because that event is over now.

You should still have a few days left to convert them to mystery boxes if you want though!

Benedict won't take my eggs? I've tried using them on him and just chatting to him. Do they need to be special eggs? Neither noted nor unnoted work.

If you've not yet started the miniquest and having difficulties then you can simply start it and upon chatting again he will offer the task complete options.

If you have already completed the miniquest there is an issue there preventing you from being able to complete it but we will get this fixed

We'll continue to look for feedback and the team will work on a fix in the meantime :)

I don't know how I feel about the Archaeology tasks being spread out. It means I have to train and do other skills rather than training Archaeology once it comes out or I have to grind everything this week.

Hi guys, we were intending to have the Archaeology tasks in place today but recent events (moving to remote working) meant we just missed the window to get the details of the tasks in last week's update. The Archaeology tasks will launch next week however, so you can easily continue your Yakity Tracking without losing focus on the new skill.

Do you mean every tier, 1-50 can be done by just doing Archaeology?

No, not all of them. But you should find this time there is a wider choice of tasks, including Archaeology. For example on tier 2, task A can be completed by either Woodcutting OR Mining, or you can do Task B when Archaeology unlocks next week.
