I'm not personally working on Warding but the effort put into this by the people involved is extremely large.

They've tried their hardest to implement all feedback given and have worked out a lot of the kinks people had with the initial design.

If nothing more, I implore anyone and everyone to at least give the updated blog a full read and vote with an open mind and fresh slate as the changes made may change your opinion. If that vote is a no, so be it, but as Kieren says in the video: we truly just want to make something you all want.

The effort needs to be put into account security, the glaring bot problem and other pertinent issues that are a shared concern of the community.

Work is already being put into these initiatives as you've seen with the account security blogs.

That being said, the people working on this are not the same people who are working on security initiatives - nor could they be. That's like asking a police officer to be a doctor as more doctors are desired.

To clarify, the reasoning I'm highlighting the effort put in by the team is that some people have preset judgements on Warding that may no longer be relevant based on the changes from this blog. I'm simply asking to perhaps give the blog a read before giving out an opinion based on older blogs.

How about instead of voting on the details of how warding will work... we vote on whether we even want it. It failed like 3 polls and instead of letting it die you just keep developing and appealing to the players. Why are you so desperate to release a skill in the first place. Especially one as boring and pointless as this. Where was this level of devotion to Sailing and Artisan?

How about holding a poll- “Should we continue working on Warding?” And “Should we hold an open forum for other skill suggestion?” “Should we develop other ideas and poll them against Warding?”

The first question in the blog is what you're asking for and this is the first time it will be polled. I'm unsure where you got 'It failed 3 polls' from.

I wouldn't say we're desperate for this update, we're just giving it the best chance possible of passing much like we do with every update we pitch. Sure, this one has had a few more revisions than most, but skills are quite complex as they impact larger elements of the game when compared to other types of updates. Wouldn't you rather we took care and thought it through as much as possible rather than doing half a job?

We have a polling system for a reason - to assure we're making something the players want! If the super-majority don't want it, we'll move onto something else.

If this doesn't pass we're literally never going to have a new skill. The updated blog is about as solid as it's going to get for a new proposal. The new items and mechanics are cohesive with what have already and it's expanding an area that really needed it (magic).

I'll be sad if it doesn't pass because getting new skills was part of the game's charm back when I played in 2004.

Don't see this as the only opportunity for OSRS to have a new skill. If this fails, we'll take what we've learned from Warding and try something else, much like how we learnt from Sailing and Artisan. It's a very divisive update and the way we decide future projects has changed quite a bit since we pitched Warding at RuneFest, so I expect the process will be quite different if we are to do it again.

Fair enough. Could you elaborate on which skills you feel need some attention? With Warding we wanted to improve the viability of other skills at the same time (Magic, Hunter and Runecraft were the focus) and I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether there are others that need more attention.

I still think imbues should come only from warding, not from NMZ.

Whilst I agree, and I think most the others do too, this is something that's been established for awhile - and when we explored that option players made it clear it's just super frustrating to have something like that change - whether we remove existing imbues or not.

It'll be an easier transition to remove them from NMZ's shop once warding is established, should we want to explore it at that stage.

The underlying issue with warding is still there for me.

The skill simply doesn't have a clear cut and straightforward focus and identity.

There is close to nothing here that doesn't fit into any other skill.

Why isn't making the robes in crafting? Making dhide and splitbark are already in crafting, etc etc

How much of Construction is just Crafting/Smithing? Runecraft could just be Magic. Hunter? Didn't we do that already with ranged and chompy birds? I don't mean to sound defensive here, it's just that this reasoning doesn't hold much water. I do understand where you're coming from, but very few skills are as unique as players seem to think/want.

That being said, if you're not sold on the idea, that's totally fair. Thanks for your feedback (:

So is that minigame basically going to be runespan?

100% no. I wasn't a fan of Runespan and have 0 intention of ever adding anything like that. The XP from the minigame would be worse than conventional training methods by a lot, but the process would be less repetitive.

There was a huge pvm community that wanted raids. Nobody asked for warding.

You just said it. They asked for raids, not chambers of xeric, why is this any different? There’s a huge skilling community that want a new skill.

Gotta give the dev team props here. They have definitely done a great job handling the negative feedback from a community that can be very hard to please. I really hope the community doesn't shoot this post down completely due to some outdated meme.

These changes keep improving the skill for me, and I was pretty disappointed when I first saw Warding introduced. At this point, I can honestly say I'm getting more excited for it.

Imo, it no longer feels like a forced new skill that could be just put into RC/crafting. From this post, I can definitely see a classic skilling style that also has a more modern flair.

For those who haven't read it, I really urge you to. If you don't like the design, absolutely fair enough. But please make sure you give it a read before passing judgement as it's changed quite a lot from the last version.

Some people are simply fully against any implementation of a new skill which impacts the gameplay and jeopardizes the culture. I hope that it doesn't pass a poll, honestly.

Props for putting in effort and work, but as historical precedents shows, focusing on a new skill isn't ideal.

There will be a beta (or multiple betas) so hopefully you all would be able to help us build a skill that works for as many people as possible.

This will be the first and only time it will be polled. If you don't think a 75% super-majority is sufficient in deciding what we work on, I'd love to hear your ideas for alternative systems.

i doubt a failing result will do any but leave it changed in the slightest followed by more polling untill it passes. Speaking of polls, where are f2p halos which were polled and passed way above the majority. i think polling is just in place to keep the osrs community complacent.

You're mis-informed about the halos. Good thing we have a polling system! Otherwise something with less than 60% support would be in game.

That’s not true now, is it? They don’t want Warding. Before moving onto a new skill, I suspect we’ll poll how many do want a skill to gauge whether it’s worth pursuing. We probably should’ve done that first before pitching Warding. Learning from our mistakes, and all that :)

Hey I'm glad you guys are keeping your chins up. I disliked some aspects of the skill but I still want a new one to happen and I think you guys have shown a great amount of growth in how you approach the pitching of the new skills.

Is there going to be an attempt to harvest some kind of qualitative data to assess why people disliked Warding? I would be happy to give my thoughts in a survey if it brings a new skill closer to the game.

It would be beneficial to send a survey around to understand what players disliked and what they liked. I’m sure there are plans for this, but I can’t say for sure.

While 66% isn’t quite what we aim for, the demand still stands. I’m sure we’ll get there in the end, even if it means a minigame becomes a skill (if that’s what the players want!)
