I meet tons of league players IRL. It helps because sometimes I'm wearing Riot merch and so people walk up to me to ask for RP/Gun Buddies/nerfs.
But there's one I'll never forget. I was at a party on the rooftop of a hotel and there was a guy sitting in a planter playing League on the hotel wifi. People would gather behind him and cheer every time he got a kill and bring him drinks when he died. Definitely a moment of pride for me.
yeah, like you've mentioned elsewhere, LCK is not a top region to take seriously, gotta only look at LPL and LEC so the narrative works out
Yeah and you're totally not misquoting me in order to create a strawman to serve your own narrative :)
Does this mean you can add more champions as bots? I know some could be tricky, but only having ~50 available gets kinda boring. I would love to be able to play against more champions as bots, especially newer ones
Yep yep! Currently our goal for the PBE tech test is about ~30 but we want to ramp to a wide mix of old/new/popular/easy/complex so that new players can get a taste of all flavors.
Ideally long-term, we can have a bot come out with a new champ release (but that is much further down the roadmap as we need to make sure our tech is sound prior to expanding it.)
Hijacking to ask if the new bots changes may expand champion pool or we'll be keeping the same roster of champions with simpler kits
Currently, we are using simpler champions for this PBE test to focus on the basics of all champs feeling good over a specific champion feeling good (Ex: Using Spells, farming, laning, etc. over ensuring Yasuo knows his wombo combo or Evelynn being able to use her Ult to escape)
That said, we do want to ensure all popular champs and commonly seen champs are covered quickly after we launch to ensure players can learn to play against them prior to going into normals.
For the PBE Tech test though, I believe we will have a random mix of current bot champs along with new bot champs as we also wanted to have coverage of both while testing (and y'all are getting our testing champs for this launch :D).
Read moreI'm dumb what do you mean by "like moving to bonus HP scaling from items only or whatever."
Right now the damage scales with your max HP, which means it synergizes really well with champs who stack health through their kits (Cho and Sion for example). Moving to bonus HP from items scaling would let us balance it around a wider range of champions, rather than it having to account for kit based health stacking and being significantly weaker on those without it
I just hope all the big changes will be released in one big patch with fast follow up in couple of next patches. This year it felt preseason was bleeding into like 5 patches afterwards.
That's the intent here. We were already kind of getting into a 'season start patch has meaningful gameplay changes' pattern beforehand, so there was like preseason 0.5 in November and 1.0 in January effectively. Trying to condense and then do really fast balance/meta follow ups through both hot fixes and the next patch or two post season start.
Are there any plans to rework Ranked Crests and Borders? You can still create better looking Crests and Borders and still take into account the Challenges Emblem. They just feel cheap and too thin, both can use more "umph" and enlargement.
We do not have any current plans to change the Crests/Borders.
If we did, it would be part of a larger player identity overhaul.
whats gonna happen with heartsteel giving champion size? please tell me its still a mechanic! i love getting huge. its my favorite thing
Currently in testing. Aiming to keep it, though looking to have it be less bound to particular champ kits and more bound to builds. So something like moving to bonus HP scaling from items only or whatever.
And Still no Lore update, Riot forget about it
Not forgotten about. Apologies for the lack of recent discussion, it's a larger Riot topic in terms of how we're approaching the IP and storytelling generally, so not something Brightmoon and I can just cover by ourselves. Hoping to share some thoughts on it sometime later this year potentially but can't guarantee anything.
Not if you wanna start a hype train ;)
You know I do love a good hype train. I’m like the Baron of hype trains.
Would you also have any updates on Quick Play? Would it be out at the end of the year or would it be next
It’s currently still planned for this year
The year is 2029, League now has 26 ranked splits and you need to play the game full-time to have a chance to make it to high elo every two weeks.
There is no plan to do more than 3 ranked splits per year. That does not mean it won't happen, but it does mean that no one has discussed it anywhere near me.
2 was more a test for 3 than it is an indication of a growth pattern.
My build after mythics are removed.
Hopefully rockrtbelt stays I can't play Akali without the dash anymore
Current plan (could change) is Rocket Belt is still around, keeps the dash, loses the MS towards target
Wonder if Riot's getting rid of Renekton bot's tendency to run it down, orr keeping that in for added realism.
I taught him everything he knows
I mean, its like tft now, 5 games and you are placed, 20/30 games and you reach your past elo, no? Sounds way healthier for the casual gamer now than it was 2 years ago, when reaching your past rank took a few weeks usually (assuming near 50% winrate ofc).
^ TFT's a reasonable reference point for how we're thinking about a lot of this. Not exactly the same of course, given solo versus team game and amount of content a TFT set replaces. But that sort of speed of ranked climb is closer to what we're thinking than the really drawn out gradual climbs of a full year
Bring back Teemo bot, destroyer of worlds! But yeah, I know it's probably a bit out, gotta make sure the normal bots work fine first!
Praise be Lil' Devil Teemo Bot!

Can you control the bots with pings? in heroes of the storm you could ping yourself to have the bot follow you or ping it to go away and it would stop following you
Not at the moment, but if /when we get to a point where you can have a bot as an ally, we do want a way for the players to communicate with the bot through pings and shot calls. (Ex: All players vote to do dragon, Bot goes to dragon)
