In 2019, we had three incredible Masters Tour events in Las Vegas, Seoul, and Bucharest. Thousands of you participated in Masters Qualifiers for your chance to play in these events, and we’re excited to announce there will be even more Masters Tours to play for in the months to come…six to be precise!

Yes, we’re doubling the number of Masters Tour stops in 2020—with USD $250,000 in base prizing guaranteed for each! Like last year, a crowdfunding initiative will bolster the prize pool of the Masters Tours beyond that. These events have yielded some of the most exciting and fun moments in Hearthstone, mixing the top tier of players with the up and comers. We’ve seen consistency from relatively unknown competitors, and witnessed a few usurpers topple veteran Grandmasters on stream.

There is a new Lackey in the Tavern courtesy of the new Descent of Dragons expansion, the [[Draconic Lackey]]! If you check out the card description, you’ll see that Draconic Lackey is a 1 mana 1/1 that Discovers a Dragon. If you’re playing Standard, Draconic Lackey will pull from all collectible Dragons in Standard, and if you’re playing Wild it will pull from the pool of Dragons in Wild. It follows the normal Discover rules, meaning you will only get to choose between Neutral Dragons and those that belong to the class you play.

The Top 8 of the Hearthstone Global Games was made up entirely of teams from Asia-Pacific and Europe, with both regions coincidentally split into two groups ahead of the 4 team Playoff bracket. Hong Kong and Japan punched their ticket to the Top 4 in Group A before Denmark and the United Kingdom did the same through Group B.

It was Denmark who ultimately met the United Kingdom in the Finals and prevailed with a hard-fought 3-2 victory! “It means a lot to win a big tournament for Denmark,” said Frederik " Furyhunter " Møller, who played alongside Frederik "FreddyB" Bohé in representing his country this year. “Everyone was a tough opponent on paper­, in every single series we faced at least one Grandmaster.”

We’re excited to announce that after Arlington, the next Masters Tour location will be in Indonesia! Being the first Masters Tour to take place (just) south of the equator, we’re hoping players lucky enough to score an invite to this event will join us in soaking up the South Pacific sun!

As for the Hearthstone tournament, Blizzard Entertainment and AKG Games will host over 300 invited competitors from around the globe on March 20-22, each competing for their share of a $250,000 base prize pool. The qualifying window for Masters Tour Indonesia will run from 12/12-1/26, and as always, you can sign up for Masters Qualifiers two weeks before they start on Battlefy.

After your first round of strategic tavern purchases, methodical minion placements, and triples upon triples, you’ll note that you’ve either earned or lost rating points based on your finishing place. After seeing this number change, you may ask yourself: what does this rating actually mean? And how did my rating get decided alongside my opponents?

I’m here to answer those questions - and more! – to help demystify the inner workings of your Battlegrounds rating.

What does this rating number mean?

Your rating in Hearthstone Battlegrounds is more than just a number. The value of your rating represents your skill level in Hearthstone Battlegrounds (with a higher value meaning you are more skilled). The Year of the Dragon may be rapidly flying toward its conclusion, but the dragons themselves have only just begun to descend upon the tavern. Beginning at this year’s BlizzCon, we’ve parted the clouds on the Descent of Dragons set, unearthing three of the five Legendary Galakrond cards that players will receive for free once Descent of Dragons touches down. We’ve also begun to explore some of the other sidequests, shiny sky mechs, and scaly sky serpents that will be available to collect after the expansion launches in a few weeks.

Bob the Bartender has been hard at work keeping the tavern tidy for Hearthstone’s heroes, and it appears that the news has started to spread. Hearthstone Battlegrounds is about to add some extra chaos—and a few Explorers—with a new update coming to the mode today.

Sindragosa, Elise Starseeker, Brann Bronzebeard, and Sir Finley Mrrgglton are the latest heroes to enter the Battlegrounds. Each one comes with a new hero power to give you more options to push toward a first-place finish. The realm of Azeroth ties many of us together, across languages, continents, and across Hearthstone, Warcraft, and World of Warcraft. For the past 25 years, we’ve experienced countless stories and victories brought to us by these games, and now Hearthstone would like to join in on the anniversary celebration.

In Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas—48 players battled it out in weekly online play during Seasons 1 and 2 of Grandmasters. Six players were relegated from the competition, while six more ran the Playoff gauntlet to secure their place at the Hearthstone Global Finals.

In China, the field was wider, with a Playoff bracket determined by the victors from a pool of 64 veterans and an open pool of 1024 players represented at several live events over the course of the year. It’s all boiled down to two players from the region joining the best from the rest of the world at BlizzCon.

287 players were whittled down to 8 at Masters Tour Bucharest, with several familiar faces comprising the final bracket.

It was Eddie versus kin0531 in the finals—an epic back-and-forth series that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Both players traded blows in the final game--a complicated match-up where each competitor was made to navigate a deck full of [[Corrupted Blood]] generated by [[Hakkar, the Soulflayer]]. Eddie came out on top, earning over US $94,000 and the title of Masters Tour Bucharest champion!
