Basically title. I wanted to know if it was a valid tactic to call these things down on huge enemies and the like.

Pretty sure it'll break the shell now, but I haven't done it in quite awhile because it's not really worth it, and a lot harder since the last update so I don't know for sure
Yep, it will break the shell and will still kill most other enemies.
