Hiya. We're still working on further solutions to the black screen issue. You shouldn't be seeing that long of a timeout if this happens before the game loads (being in the lobby or before seeing the Shhhhh screen).

Correct - once you purchase the Cosmicube you have it forever and can take your time unlocking the items in it.
Have you already attempted to re-install?
