As stated on my support thread which was explained as follows:
When being a spectator/observer the minimap in the 0.49 Patch shows the players as coloured dots on either side, while this is useful for players it is not for spectators. As spectators for tournaments, we need all the information we can get and having 10 coloured dots on the screen is hardly useful.
It doesn't help us, the casters or the viewers to know which character is where on the map so we can see which player is going for a flank or is holding down a sightline.
Please give spectators character minimap icons. :)
