It likely was EU observers for the Games casted by EU casters.

I wish it was us, but sadly we didn’t get to partake such a role this year! But I’m sure it can’t have been bad to that extend! On another note, the kind of replays we have been doing this summer was stuff we made even when we were on a 0 second delay outside of this year ☺️

Or Highlighting stuff on the other side of the map, zooming in on wards about to ticking out, listening to the casters and supporting the spoken word with stuff shown on the screen etc etc. The Observers do more than just showing close up replays. And despite, some of their close up replays are really cool looking and i think it does add to the watching experience while nothing else of importance is going on anyway, and being able to do it LIVE on stream without looking awful actually needs a lot of skill.

You just sound salty for whatever reason.

My details :'D <333

I would watch it !

Of course you would!!

The evelynn cam was well done by the production team

Hey guys

Big Thanks from Effiez and I, its always nice to hear feedback and compliments <3

Trying to give you guys the best experience :)

Yes, thank you very much :)

Hey, long-time observer here :)

Learning to observe can be a bit overwhelming at first, but extremely fun after you get used to it.

I'll just answer the questions the best I can here.

  1. If you enter settings in spectator mode, you will find all the keybinds that are needed for observing. You want to specifically go for "Drag Scroll Lock" seen near the bottom in this picture. https://gyazo.com/29c8351f4f06739add988b5050cba6ab It will center your mouse (hidden) in the camera and make the camera move much smoother around. As well you will want to use the "Select blue/red player"-keybinds to move around the map with out having to click the minimap.

  2. If it's played via a tournament code, I think it depends a lot on how it's set up. I'm not very familiar with it, but I think it is possible to spectate those via invite / friendlist, if the creator of the code allowed it. But don't take my word for this.

  3. In my experience, early and mid it's a lot about jungle focus, vision set up, objective ...

Vedius is the heir to Deficio, one of the best on-air analysts and casters we have in the game. Medic is still rough around the edges but he brings fantastic energy and excitment to a cast. He's not as polished as for example, Captain Flowers but for the LEC it works well.

Drakos has made a home for himself in EU. He has bought in and is a welcome addition. I really appreciate his work on EUphoria, his promotional content, desk work and his other roles more than his casting. I also am torn on his work whenever he works with Frosk. Those two are clearly great friends, sometimes it bleeds over a bit too much. Their happiness can be infections but sometimes they go into their own little world and it strays from the original focus, almost always fun, sometimes less than relevant.

Frosk, we were lucky to get one of the absolute premier colour casters and analysts. A welcome addition who goes from strength to strength. Again I do occasionally lose interest when she works with Drakos.

Sjokz is almost certainly the best host/interviewer in the League scene and I'm happy when I see her working on CS:GO events, just wish she did more than Blast events. There isn't much more to say about Sjokz that hasn't been said before, she's great at her job and does a pretty good dolphin impression.

Quickshot, thank all that is holy that the man stopped being a colour caster. His play-by-play is so much better, his duo with Deficio is a caster pairing that will rank amongst the very best in the history of this game, for me it's probably the best. As he continues to grow and become the father of the EU talent I can say I'm very pleased he's still around even though I wanted him gone when he tried to be an analyst.

Laure, I might be wrong but if I had to guess, there is no interviewer with better game knowledge in the scene. Her interviewing skills continue to improve as does her clarity when speaking. As time goes on and Sjokz focuses on other things I expect Laure to become the best interviewer we have in the game.

The production team have done a great job, the observers too, all the people behind the camera who work hard to give such a great product.

Oh, and there is Ender. Well he actually makes me miss Pulse and those were dark, dark days.

Thank you from an observer, this actually means a whole lot 💗

Derole

im pretty sure the casters too, because quikshot said in a game last week that he already knows that this team wins the teamfight during a teamfight saying that he is "cheating by being a caster" or something like that

He may have been referring to something else, because EU specifically aren't using a delay currently, it's all completely live with the game as it goes on :) But they do have their own screen however!

Derole

I mean it’s great that you know that, but you kinda have to back it up with at least something. This is the internet after all hahah

I don't really have any evidence I think, other than that I am an observer I guess? xD But what you described was true for all years until this year :P

BwsKingofADC

Who’s the cute girl on the right?

Gonna feel good and hope you meant me! Thank you! I’m one of the 3 observers, Effiez ☺️

As someone who usually stays invisible this means a lot! Thank you so much ❤️ (One of the observers)

Yo, it was great. I really appreciate observers as they do a very good job. Send the grats to the rest of the observers as well please, you people rock!

They have definitely read it and are all super happy haha!

INanoI

Hey, great job that you and your colleagues are doing every week. I really enjoy the special moments that the observer highlight during the games.

Hope you dont mind me asking a couple of questions.

Very curious about the job as an observer. :)

Do you prepare for specific games like the caster do? So things you want to look out for or want to highlight during the game?

How many observer are showing us a typical game I assume at least 2?

Do you communicate with whoever is casting the game? We know that you are listening and acting on what the caster are saying but is this working the other way round as well?

Thank you so much! I love answering questions haha :)

We don't prepare nearly as much as the casters, but we usually have a general feel of how each individual team plays, so we do change our flow slightly depending on the teams, but in the end every match is different so we can only do so much preparation. We tend to just focus more on what casters highlight and then build our game highlights around their stories or the flow of the game.

Generally 2 observers are showing the game. 1 for the live game and 1 for the replays, PiPs or Baserace. But we have a third observer as well who does jump in for double replays or if observer 2 are unable to show a replay. But he is also busy on the side making the awesome highlight reels for the end of the day amongst other things.

We keep the communication with casters during the game limited as casters are very focused. If they plan something special it's usually communicated before the games start. But we do relay information to them through...

I would second this, I've watched 10 years of league and 20+ of various RTS and the fog of war is so damn critical and not toggled enough in any game tourneys.

More to the point, it's a fantastic observing casting tool because it builds suspense and anticipation. Let us be surprised too!

I agree it can be awesome at times, and it is a thing we like to incorporate if the timing is right. Just sadly we may not be doing it as often as we could! Finding the right moment to use it can be hard at times since sometimes there can be crucial movements from either side of the teams that would be missed out. It's a thing we are working on and will keep working on! But sometimes i just flat out miss the opportunity since i'm looking at multiple other screens at the same time, so it's partly something i can also just work on haha.

Ozbal42

Im really curious, how did you guys get your jobs?

Like i know in csgo you can get started by observing for smaller online tournaments and kind of "build a resume", but i havent ever heard about LoL observers

Our OG observer who has been here since the start, was a former pro player and i think he started off by doing the german cast back then, but that stopped and he was asked if he wanted to do observing. I may be wrong so maybe he can come and clarify it haha. The rest of us applied during a time there was a need for several new observers and here we are today!
