I'm concerned about rubberbanding effects. Like very concerned.

Rubber banding won't be an issue with Smooth Movement. Current movement has more rubber banding than this will.

It will be, yes! To clarify, the linked timestamp shows two different things:

  1. Line-of-sight pathing (the clip near Lumbridge mill)
  2. Smooth movement (the clip in the gnome maze)

The upcoming update is smooth movement ONLY.

Correct. It may be necessary for us to disable it entirely in certain situations where this would be a big problem.

If the changes are processed client-side first, how does movement look to other players? Is it only personal movement that looks smoother? Excellent changes btw :)

Movement prediction would be on your end only. Smooth movement and tick changes would display to everyone.

Can someone explain if "smoother player movement" is the improved player character animations or the faster tick rate revolution?

To explain the movement demos that were shown at the Runefest keynote:

Movement smoothing is a modification to how movement looks on the client. It looks and feels less jagged, and very slightly improves responsiveness. It's a relatively small change, so we have been able to deliver it quickly.

Movement prediction is a technique that lets the NXT client make a best-guess at where the server will move you to, so that it can start moving you immediately. It makes the game feel instantly responsive, even though it technically isn't. It's a big change, with a fairly significant change to how the game plays, so will need a while to research and develop.

Faster tick rate is the holy grail, where we make the game server process your inputs and the game logic multiple times faster. It makes the game much more responsive, on both the client AND the server. It's a huge change with a ton of complexities involved across the entire game, so we'll need your patience on this one!

EDIT: As Mod Pi...

Modifying the tick is a piece of work I'm hugely excited about - from my perspective, it's certainly not a carrot on a stick, but a genuine attempt at making Runescape feel like a game that belongs in the modern age. It's definitely a way off, and for as much work as we have been putting into it there's still plenty of unknowns, but it is a genuine effort to improve the game.

We've literally JUST pushed an update out to fix this! Update from the Play store to get it :)

I haven't had a chance to try it on anything but mobile, but on there it seems to have increased the issue tenfold lol

This update is desktop only for now, mobile will be getting all these updates in the coming weeks

We've found the source of this issue and are developing a fix :)

Runescape runs incredibly well on new iPhones

Well to be honest i used to have a 780 GTX and it was always on 100% then the gpu burned out and because i still had warranty Gigabyte sent me a 970 for free.

I'm just afraid of that happening again that's all lol, i don't have a problem running this game to Ultra on 100%.

But my other question is seen has you have Foreground FPS and Background FPS, what exactly are they? would that be FPS that matches your monitor or? and what do you think MAX HZ runescape runs on? 60hz?

Thanks for the comments people your all helpful! :)

The Foreground FPS and Background FPS settings limit your framerate to whatever you set it to. I would recommend you set your Foreground FPS to your monitor's refresh rate + 10 (e.g. 70 for a 60Hz monitor). This will save your CPU and GPU from processing unnecessary frames while giving VSync enough room to give you a smooth image.

Foreground FPS is the limit used while the window is in focus, and Background FPS is the limit used when the window is not in focus, so you can set Background FPS quite low if you AFK a lot!

The overlapping text will be fixed soon

Honest question, does the HCIM icon appear next to the Jmod crown or is there only 1 icon?

One icon, crown takes priority.
