One big point i noticed in the stream was people really didnt like the initial look of the comp cape, mainly cus it was brown. So to help people see it better, i redid that slide but with the comp capes traditional red colour scheme

Really i think they should stick to the traditional colours for the default appearance and item sprites, otherwise it just wont sell very well to people as what we recognise as the comp cape

This is a great idea, thanks for this. We should have thought of it.

I see where you're coming from, but the problem with this logic is that you can apply it to a lot of stuff in game. You got 99 RC after Runespan came out? Clearly you don't understand RC because you never did it "the hard way". You got 99 RC before Runespan came out? Well clearly you don't understand RC as it exists in the modern game.

Ultimately a totally non-ambiguous line is drawn somewhere saying "you have done this". You can't leech Telos, but I can't stop you from getting your IRL friend to do it for you.

Did I miss something? Are the areas and activity capes scrapped?

These are categories within the comp cape, but we never planned to make capes for them.

I really liked the cape designs. Pleasantly surprised to see capes other than comp being recolourable.

However, it still feels like you guys are not getting the 'anti-group' sentiments. It's not about the difficulty of the bosses, it's about the fact that we are held back from game progression by a factor we cannot control: other people. Group PvM especially is a requirement of navigating discords and such, or having the right friends, rather than testing OUR PvM skill.

You guys constantly talk about "hard group PvM" and mention things like Telos as being issues too; while these are an issue to some, I agree, the biggest, by far, issue is and has always been, ever since Day 0 when Reaper was announced, the group aspect. Please, stop talking about it as if everyone that wants "Group" removed also wants "Difficulty" removed, we don't. I think if there was more understanding of this, some of the conversation might be more civil.

We were rushing through so we had time for the art, but in the very first stream we did on this I clarified this exact distinction. What's important to recognise though is what I said on this stream: different people think different issues are the important one. Group reqs is an important issue, but not the only one.

Amen. Except the bit about news sites caring what I say.

Jagex is a really weird company. They rush weekly updates with new content for the game, but are insanely slow on things like combat fixes, web updates, QoL changes, reworks, art updates, etc..

There's always more items, more quests, more skill levels to gain, more slayer mobs, more pets, more titles, more capes, more minigames, more more more

I understand that their metrics (both for financial gain and player retention) probably indicate that new content is their best tool, but IMO they really need to take a step back and just work on having a stable, unified, modern and workable platform in general. Quality > quantity.

Speaking as someone who just finished an eighteen month long project to change something, I can tell you that adding a new thing is vastly easier than changing an old thing. Actually changing something is very easy, but as your parent comment suggests, often has unintended side effects. That means 5x as much time spent in meetings, planning, playtesting and bugfixing as actually making the thing.

Hey, thanks. Glad you're enjoying it.

There's not one period in your post. Are you retarded?

I'm so sorry.

HashTagDeeperino

Well hey there Mod Jack,

Not to give you flack,

But I'm worried, ruminating, and a bit discouraged.

Gonna fix it? I gotta wonder if you have the courage.

Major overhauls? Not that simple.

Fixes all seem to have a pimple.

AFK content is a bit too good,

Rewarding more than should,

It's a problem, at least to me,

Hoping that there could be,

Us, together, finding a solution

Hoping this ain't just noise pollution.

I'm not saying I have all the answers,

but this is one of the great cancers,

It's way too easy to AFK for ore,

Not too rewarding to actively mine for more,

Getting extra 20-40% and feeling sore.

You're gonna need a much bigger ore sink than that,

Huge, massive, just gigantic, so disgustingly fat,

Sink? Open up a landfill.

I'm gonna die on this hill.

Fill it 10 stories high - this shit is whack.

I worry that this ore just can't bounce back.

God, it's so hard to overcome adversity -

[Scratch]

(Sigh)

Ah, fuck it, just give me some armour diversity.

Word.

You're welcome.

oldspice16

Metal is low because tank armors blow

People don't care that smithing is slow, they just want drops that aren't so low

If you don't want boss drops to take a hit, give us spirits that aren't complete shit

Word.

Hasaan5

Damn it jack didn't you say in the discord that you were going to wait until you've solved the issue before posting this?

What can I say? You're welcome.

Okay, okay
I see what's happening here
We've added a new item and it's strange
You know how the drops make you feel
It's "annoyed"
And you think it's time for something to be changed

So comfortably sit, let's begin
Yes it's really me, it's Mod Jack, back again
I don't have a lot, no hair, no bod
But you're talking to a Jagex mod

What can I say but feedback's welcome
On the game, the skills, the drops
Just wanted to say it's always welcome
We don't want anything we do to flop

Hey
Why not push all the alch values high?
Inflation make us all cry
That's why
Why not replace them all
With something worth a bigger haul?
Cos the price of it would fall
Oh, what if we took them away
(abandoned)
And ore and bars were back to stay?
That wouldn't help with a thing
(bad outcome)
Cos ore and bars are worth nothing

So what can we do about this problem?
Which is making the bossers sad
I'm going to work with Breezy and Shogun
And bring you a solution that's less bad
You're welcome
You're we...

Can you answer either of these questions

  • Was this the concept for expansion 2?
  • Is this currently being worked on?

No.

He could've shut it down (would be in their best interest to do so if this theory was not correct), but he didn't. Take that how you will

Why would that be in our best interests?

Here's the "Military Forces of the Late Third Age" document for you:

Not that I agree with Wacky over there or with the statement I'm posing next, but, it could be to just cover your ass regardless of the pain it caused to it.

It doesn't cover it though. If I wanted to cover it, we'd do a guaranteed content poll because then no matter what the outcome, it "wasn't our fault".

The reason we've done it in the way we've done it is that we want an honest appraisal of current opinion on the subject so we can work from that.

I've noticed in the devblog that they've mentioned certain requirements that some players either can't or won't get. I can somehow understand having an issue with not being able to get a requirement necessary for comp for whatever reason, whether it be because the content you need to complete is too demanding for the computer you have, or maybe if you're a physically disabled player that is disadvantaged compared to other able bodied players that can use keybinds more quickly and effectively for harder content, or maybe you're colourblind and that prevents you from being able to do phase 5 of Telos because you can't distinguish between which beam is which. Accomodating for players with these kinds of limitations is acceptable, and should even be expected to ensure that all RuneScape content is as accessible as it can be to as many different kinds of players without harming the integrity of the content.

However, players that won't complete content should not be a concern. If they don't want to do the requirements but still want the capes, then that's their problem, not anyone elses. It's absurd, and even insulting to players that are comped, whether they be comped for PvM or completionism, to accommodate for players that simply don't want to complete difficult requirements. It's downright lazy, and absolute bullshit. I have a feeling that the issue of players not wanting to complete requirements is aimed at the reaper requirement. If you want a PvM Cape to be introduced, then it's only appropriate that Reaper remains a requirement for the PvM Cape, including group bosses. Getting just 1 kill on each boss is not hard. It's quicker to do than getting a 99. "Hard" bosses should not be removed as a requirement. If you want a PvM Cape, you should try and get at least 1 kill each on hard bosses. You shouldn't be allowed to get a PvM Cape just because you're too lazy and impatient to learn how to kill a hard boss just once. It is a PvM Cape after all. If you haven't spent the time to learn hard bosses, you shouldn't be able to get a PvM Cape. And "forced" group bosses should not be removed from reaper either. People complain that it's difficult to find teams willing to take them on, but that's simply not true. Many friends chats and discords that deal in group bosses do have high requirements, however they aren't the only sources of teams for group bosses. It's significantly easier and more relaxed finding teams by joining a PvM focused clan. Clans are often well organised, do regular group bosses, are significantly more relaxed about requirements, and often hold regular teaching sessions. There are lots of clans that take people with only 80+ stats to bosses like raids, Nex, AoD, elite dungeons and Vorago. Sometimes even Solak. AoD and Vorago are even massable. It's genuinely not hard finding teams willing to take on first timers, people just give up too easily or don't bother looking in other viable places for teams willing to take them on. If you want a PvM Cape, you should have to get at least one kill on group bosses. If you're not willing to find a team that is relaxed about it's requirements (there's a plentiful supply), then you shouldn't be able to get a PvM Cape. Also, it's a multiplayer game. Group content is fundamental to that aspect of the game.

This is why I worded it as "can't or won't" so we don't have to get into an argument about whether a given reason "counts" as not being able to. Say there's a player who says they have social anxiety and as such can't do the voice chat necessary to get boss kills. A lot of players will mock this and say "just do it" which makes it seem like they "won't" do the accomplishment, whereas they would say that they "can't" do the accomplishment.

I don't see any practical way to distinguish between the two in practice.

hiding results on us just makes me think your gonna do changes no matter what... so w.e

If we were just going to do it whatever we wouldn't bother to do the poll. It was a pain in the ass.
