With soapstone being moved to a lower level for first access will the level requirement be reduced for the material cache be reduced as well? Or will the cache still be locked at 98?

And if the level for the cache is reduced, will that also reduce the xp from it?

I don't believe the material cache has changed.

Not anymore!

Technically materials aren't level locked, only the sites you access them are. We decided to allow soapstone to be obtained at the levels here in the Senntisten digsite. So you will find them in the excavation spots at the levels needed to access the spots.

Can you hint when we'll get more xau-tak lore in-game? Pretty please.

No, I can't. ;)

  1. 'everything in Erebus as far as we know survived?', the 'as far as we know' means this answer is grasping for straws. In truth, we don't know what Erebus is, and we don't know whether it comes from before, or after the last revision. I of course cannot claim that he, the Elder Gods, and the Dragonkin are the *only* beings that survived, and that's not what I say. I do include the words 'that we know of'. Any other survivors haven't been explicitly confirmed, and I am working on what is known, not what is unknown
  2. Directly from the Wiki: The Great Revision

Xau-Tak is apparently an ancient entity as old as the universe and the Elder Gods themselves. Sometime around The Great Revision that destroyed the previous cycle of the universe, Xau-Tak was somehow able to corrupt Mah's egg, causing her to be born malformed and resulted in only four Elder Gods being active at its start. As such, no... this is not a stretch, this is confirmed lore.

  1. The icon for the shard of Erebus is, yes, a different color - but only slightly. It's likely that this is simply because making it pure black would make it impossible to give the item detail. Compromises have to be made. What is known is that Xau-Tak is connected to shadow anima, as is the shard. I use the black mask as an example of other areas where this same connection has been drawn. I cannot comment on the inner workings of Erebus - as that is unknown territory. My evidence is based on what is known, not what is unknown.

  2. Destroying the stone was not a 'cure' from the curse - as demonstrated by Jas's continued control of the dragonkin against their will. It was merely a removal of the objective of the curse. The temporary cure I refer to is the cure Kerapac and the player use on Strisath in the quest One of a Kind wherein the World Guardian siphons wisps into him. They are very clear that the effect of this 'cure' will wear off.

  3. If Xau-Tak has connections to Erebus (which you agree with here), and Xau-Tak is connected to shadow anima (which you've also agreed with), then the shard of Erebus (which is connected to shadow anima) is thereby connected to Xau-Tak. Agreeing with me on this point only clarifies that I was, in fact, correct on point 3, regardless of which color Jagex happened to choose for the sprite.

  4. I am not sure if you are referring to Xau-Tak or Zaros with this rebuttal. Regardless of which... yes, both violated the edicts. From the wiki: "As the adventurer prepared to confront Rabid Jack, they encountered a mysterious kitten several times, seemingly only visible to them, whose dialogue and examine alluded to Xau-Tak's threats. During the fight against Rabid Jack, a giant black hand, supposedly Xau-Tak's, attacked the adventurer, thus indicating that Xau-Tak breached the Edicts of Guthix before the Assassination of Guthix." and "during the quest The Temple at Senntisten, one helps Azzanadra restore the Altar of Zaros in the Digsite Dungeon, the site of an ancient Zarosian city. Azzanadra then succeeds in contacting Zaros, who apparently inhabits a distant plane. Although Zaros does not come to Gielinor's plane at this time, some of his power is manifested on Gielinor, including damaging a statue of Zamorak at the Chaos Temple. This manifestation was theorised to have violated the Edicts of Guthix."

  5. This is also an interesting interpretation, however I do believe there may be some validity to it in the sense that Xau-Tak as an entity is likely to be portrayed as more powerful than the 4 remaining Elder Gods upon his arrival - sort of as the 'Nex' or 'Telos' extra boss of the EGWD, if I'm right. If that is the case, both my, and your interpretations are equally correct. They are not mutually exclusive ideas.

Not confirming or denying anything, but a reminder that the wiki is far from infallible and often has player theories or opinions worked into it under the guise of "fact". On more than a few occasions I've had references of my own work stated as being based on something I have never seen before (I had one reference to the soul abomination Gielinor as "confirmed" being based off a character from an anime I had never seen for example).

So be careful not to assume "it's on the wiki" is the same as canon. If you can't find specific wording to it in game, assume it's just a theory. ;)

Unfortunately I’m not sure if Mod Jack was being completely serious when he said his tier was √-1, but the fact that they’re even joking about that means Xau-Tak certainly isn’t a normal god by any means.

It was Mod Wilson who made that comment and no he wasn't being entirely serious. ;)

Cool thanks for giving a response.

When I encountered the bug for helwyr I did actually move him around quite a bit to no amount of success. The mob kept passing by. I defended south gate with him in my second run so I didn’t test for the issue a second time. He was being a bad boy.

The immortal Tok Haar - I have a theory that maybe you can test. Can a wonky internet connection or some hiccup in computer hardware cause it to miss the check that’s supposed to kill things that reach 0HP? The Tok Haar in that particular scenario dropped to 0HP and continued to hit the barricade for 75% alone (the barricade was taking damage with no other sources nearby). And then he mysteriously vanished. During this time he was completely uninteractable.

I can attempt to replicate this and submit a report ingame later.

Our calculations are done serverside so it won't be anything to do with your connection, so please don't stress about your setup. It'll be a weird glitch in the death code, possibly in combination with some other process. Worth considering things like abilities used, any items you've activated, or potions you're using. I'm doing some digging today, see if I can find it out.

You lose nothing other than time if the event fails, so if you're encountering this problem just home tele and restart and hopefully it won't happen the second time around.

There's no code that prevents Helwyr attacking to the north, he should be able to. However, sometimes his hunt system gets a little confused. If he's being stubborn you can normally fix it by moving him a little bit, just send him a little on to the grass. He'll still hit the same range, but he might behave a little more.

I'll obviously take a look and see if I can make him behave, but if they stop working you can fix it by moving them about a bit.

Not sure how tokhaar are turning immortal, that is particularly weird and not one that cropped up in testing. As always please submit a bug report with as much information as possible and it'll help us track it down.

Just so you're aware I am working on this as we speak. Currently trying to unravel why it's not unlocking, but I'm adding a check to Seren (at the council chamber) after the quest so, if you don't have it unlocked, simply speaking to her will resolve it. Keep an eye on the patch notes for when this fix goes live.

This is amazing!

Mmmm. Gotta love everything that comes back to haunt after each iteration of the lore.

Like the fact that -- at the beginning -- your character walks into that lab and immediately mistakes Vicendithas for Kerapac. Ah yes.

Bwahahahaahaha!

I'd like to know what "somtehing else" truly means in XT's context. Because if he's no Elder God and no Anti-Elder God... Then what? Malice itself? The Dark Matter?

The only parallel i can draw about him has nothing to do with Runescape, like at all, but hear me out:

SPOILERS Obviously

There's a game called Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. There, the main story revolves around a "malice" that turned pokémon into savages. This malice then corrupts the "Tree of Life" which come to think of it is very very similar to the Heart of Gielinor.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dark_Matter

By corrupting the main source of life, the dark matter would corrupt all living beings, and therefore plunge the entire universe into chaos. Dark Matter can also turn every pokemon into... yeah you guessed it. STONES!

I don't know if this is just a casuality, or if the Jmods are aware of these parallel stories existing. I could also link one of Ayreon Albums to the Dragonkin Storyline. i mean:

"Pride comes before our fall", "Our quenchless thirst for knowledge"... and "Looking for a planet to escape" from a great revision, I may be reaching here, but these references are too similar and quite fun coincidences if anything else.

It would be cool if /u/Darkhearted_Raven gave his opinion on these similarities because i think they're quite interesting :)

I've never heard of that game and it's not something that any of the lore council have ever raised in regards to the story. Sorry, this is a reference dead end here and any similarities are entirely coincidental.

Hey guys, I'm looking into this now. Hopefully it's something very simple as I expect I know where the weirdness has occurred.

Rarycaris

Is there any notable post-quest dialogue? None of the characters I've tried had much to say :(

No, we've decided to focus less on PQD (which a relative handful of people engage with) and use that time on core content instead (e.g the time that would have been spent on PQD was spend on the core dialogue in the quest)

GamerSylv

Anyone got an issue in recent quests with Gods treating you weird? I've always been pro-Saradomin in my choices, but in today's quest he's treating me like an assohle, as if I helped Zamorak in BoL. When there was the issue that resulted in Jagex placing a lot of people at the end of Endgame did it change our "canon" choices? I've never actually replayed Endgame and therefore never changed them mysef.

u/darkhearted_raven

No changes have been made to any Endgame related choices with this quest update. Make sure you hadn't started a new playthrough and changed your choices.

Im_Phteven

When can we expect the next one? I need more lore.

Haha give us a bit of time. ;)

But you won't be short on lore this year.

Keve321

Just finished the Quest, and oooohman - this is the juiciest lore quest in ages. I absolutely loved it, it tied into other storylines in a great way, and has got me wayyy beyond excited for this upcoming year.

You're killing it with the lore and quests lately, great job everyone <3

Glad you enjoyed it. :)

San4311

Well there is a reason teachers/professors advise to use a different font when re-reading your work ;)

Sadly we don't have that option when reading it in game. ;)

ThtGuyTho

Agreed, although it perfectly reflected the feelings of the characters through the gameplay, so that's pretty neat.

That was the intention. :)

I have read this line something like a thousand times and only now can I see the missing e.... *Screams*
