@Darcevader5915 You'll need multiple switches to play co-op. Either by connecting to each other online, or via local communications play, where everyone is within close proximity of one another.

In short, my highest priority is going to be fixing any issues in current versions of the game, and getting the 1.3 multiplayer updates to consoles. Since I'm not personally doing the console work, I have been spending my time working on a new free update for Stardew
The new game that I've been working on (still secret) is currently on hold while I work on Stardew Valley. But I really want to work on both, so my plan in 2019 is to form a team to help me maintain & update Stardew Valley, so I have time to work on my new game as well as Stardew
Turkish, French, Italian, and Korean languages are still planned, and are getting close, but may not be available until early next year
I love Stardew Valley and I will continue working my hardest to make it the best it can be. As always, thanks so much for your support and encouragement :-)

@JoshTheriault2 Yes, PS4 and Xbox are getting the multiplayer update. There's a whole process and it takes a while, especially considering the more stringent Quality Assurance requirements on consoles. I'm doing everything I can to get it out ASAP

@Izacistan I built the game engine from scratch, but I did use the XNA framework (Monogame is the modern equivalent)
@Izacistan to make the maps, I did use a tile editor (tIDE)... though I'd recommend using Tiled instead (the software is called Tiled)

@jbeall22 There's absolutely no difference in gameplay between male and female characters in Stardew Valley. That's odd though, I'd suggest maybe checking to see if her control settings are different from what you're used to?
@MidniteGenesis In the new free content update I'm working on (1.4), I'm adding a "beginner's rod" that you can buy if you're struggling to get into fishing. It will make it easier to catch low-level fish and level up your fishing skill, but can't be used to catch high quality or rare fish

Hi everyone, quick update on what's going on: Most important is still the PS4/Xbox MP update. Couple of technical roadblocks delayed those but they are in Quality Assurance phase now. My estimate is that they will be out next month. Will share more definite info as soon as I know
Simultaneously, the next free content update (1.4) is coming along very well, it's packed with new stuff and "quality of life" features that will make playing Stardew smoother and more fun. 1 example is the ability to pay Marlon to recover a lost item when you "die" in the mines!

wish I'd made the listing clearer in some way to not seem overwhelming. I've been doing all the intended tasks myself for the 7 years of development/release and it only takes up a minority of my time, I would only add addt'l tasks as a new administrator would be able to handle
Just to be clear, I've been doing the tasks with the help, of course, of my accountant, lawyer, payroll and HR software. This position isn't to take over those responsibilities, just help me in managing or interfacing with those existing systems, if that makes sense

@xAquae There is one shared cave, shared community center, mines, etc. You're still working together to achieve common goals, it's just a little more independent (which leads to some interesting gameplay)
@XxSkyfallMaxX If you have an existing multiplayer farm, money will remain shared, but you can go to the Mayor's house to separate (or re-join) the money at any time. If you separate it, the current funds will be split evenly among the players. For new farms you can set the option at start
I think my last tweet might have given the impression that the new update will be focused mostly on multiplayer stuff, so I want to make clear that 95% of what's in this new update is meaningful for both single-player and multi-player. That's always my goal with new content!
Hi everyone, I want to apologize for not being more frequent w/ updates about the state of the console multiplayer. XBOX/PS4 are both in certification, I've been told there are just a few fixes and then they can release. Please let me know if I can answer any of your questions

@Matzewrath It was in QA(quality assurance) stage for a while, which is different than cert (certification is done by the platform to ensure nothing is going to fry the console). The process is usually: development > porting > QA > cert > release ... right now we're looping on the cert stage

@bismuthuupa the 1.4 update has some end-game content that happens after the CC/JojaMart storyline, as well as a bunch of quality of life stuff. There's always more improvements that can be made and I'm open to at least considering anything for future updates too

@RealStealth my goal going forward is for all consoles (Switch/PS4/Xbox) to get updates simultaneously. PC will probably still continue to get updates first, but Ideally the time between the two would be minimal
Update on the console MP: the update was put back into certification late last week after failing certain MP-specific platform requirements, like needing a way to access player profiles from in-game. I am praying that it passes this time which could mean a release later this week
Also... A performance issue in the PS VITA version was discovered and an update that should address the issue is in the works

@seculardracula The port should be a lot less tricky, as 1.3 -> 1.4 doesn't fundamentally change the underlying code for stardew valley like 1.2 -> 1.3 did. So I am counting on a much smaller gap between releases. Also, all consoles will get the update simultaneously rather than switch first
@haoco_tang Yes, this update is on its way as well. It's also in the same certification cycle as the multiplayer updates for xbox and ps4 but it could potentially come out at any time.

Heard from the porting company, there are still technical issues with the console updates. They give an estimate that it will be ready within a couple weeks but I can't personally guarantee that. All I can say is that I'm truly sorry this is taking so long

@GabrielSyler33 Thank you and yes, a big part of why this update has taken longer than any other is because it's going from single player to multiplayer. Stardew's code has major changes to make that work, and there's also technical specifics of the consoles that can make it very complicated

Hi everyone... good news and bad, the PS4 MP update is going live as we speak, it should be available in a half hour. XBOX, however, has failed cert again. Normally I'd wait to release simultaneously, but considering the circumstances I've decided to launch on PS4 immediately
I am doing everything within my power to work with the porting company to figure out what's going on with the XBOX update, to resolve the issue and get it out as soon as possible. I apologize to the XBOX players for this delay and thank you very much for your patience.
Hotfix patch for PS4 went out early this morning that should fix the crashes some people were experiencing in certain co-op situations, as well as the localized crafting recipe names bug
Just a heads up everyone, starting today I am self-publishing Stardew Valley on the Switch. With this change I'm now self-publishing on all platforms except mobile.
@April_3706 It just means that I have full responsibility for the game on Switch... before today, Chucklefish handled the business/marketing side of putting my game onto the Switch, now I will handle that in addition to being the developer of the game. otherwise everything is the same

@April_3706 I've always worked for myself and have had complete creative control & independence in making Stardew Valley. Changing to self-publishing just extends that independence to the business side of things as well.
@kody_nava A publisher is typically an entity that handles the distribution of an artist's work. Self-publishing means the artist is doing that on their own. In music, for example, you might say an artist is "self-publishing" when they release an album without being on a record label
@questtoelysium Yes, it does mean that the power & responsibility for a physical release on Switch now falls into my hands. No promises yet, but I will do my best!
@MasterXarai All the actual console ports, including switch, have always been done by a 3rd party company. My move to self-publishing won't have any significant impact on my ability to work on new content. There is a free content update coming out here relatively soon!
@ChefOwO That was actually necessary due to the item id cheat causing crashes in certain situations, which iirc caused the game to fail certification on consoles. It's possible it could be brought back, with more care to prevent crashes. can't promise though.
@AenaedGD There will be another patch for vita that addresses some of the issues players are having, yes. But vita won't get any more content updates... it's just an unfortunate consequence of the technical limitations of vita coupled with the way Stardew's code was rewritten for 1.3
@LaraGermany1 1.4 is in the works, and will come out soon. As to my next solo-developed game, I have purposely not revealed much about it yet for several reasons, but mostly I am not ready to deal with the "hype" yet. I'd rather work on it in secret, and I think it will be a better game for it

@tdome85 @chixistvl I gave my ideas and feedback on the general concept... the comic is mostly visual, so there's not a lot of writing. But it does tell a story of what might've happened in the year before your arrival. I love it... Chihiro did great work and really loves & understands Stardew

just a heads up to Stardew Valley mobile players, 1.4 saves from PC will not work on the current (1.3) mobile version. And if you transfer a save from mobile to 1.4 PC, you won't be able to transfer it back until mobile gets the 1.4 update

Okay, there is also a bug with the rock strength and monster spawns in levels 10-30 of the mines (it's not supposed to take 5 hits with the starter pickaxe to break a stone). Will be fixed very soon

Okay, the version number of the patch that just went out is going to change from 1.4.0.1 to 1.4.1 to be compatible with SMAPI (modding API). This will benefit people who use mods through SMAPI. If you see a tiny update on Steam this is what it is!

@mswanncx There is a new feature called "item stowing" that can be turned off in the options menu. With item stowing on, pressing Y will cause you to "stow" your active item. Pressing A will place the item as usual. You can turn the option off though and it will act like it used to

@NachoLinguist If you press the tool button while holding an item, it will "stow" the item. Pressing the action button works as always to place or interact. You can turn off item stowing in the options menu and then the controls will be exactly as they used to

@SkyeStark85 Hi, this is probably the new "item stowing" feature, which allows you to press Y to stow your held item so you don't accidentally gift it or eat it. You can turn this option off in the options tab, or use the A button to place items instead

@Fmwillzy if U move the right thumbstick up, does the cursor appear from the bottom left corner? I'm guessing what might be happening is that the cursor (usually invisible on console) is right over the chat box, and somehow during the eating process it becomes active and activates the box

@brittlegendo From what I know, it should be out this month. However, I don't do the mobile port myself, nor am I the publisher on mobile (I am self-publishing on all other platforms, though). So I can't 100% say for sure. But I do think it will be soon
@v__nce What platform are you on? This is odd because 1.4 actually optimizes the game, it should be running better than in 1.3. However, the jump from 1.2 to 1.3 did reduce performance , so if you are comparing it to 1.2 or earlier than that does make sense
@v__nce just to elaborate a bit, 1.3 reduced performance because of the way the code had to be rewritten to allow for multiplayer. It shouldn't be noticeable in most scenarios, but with huge complex farms it can have an impact. Though 1.4 improved on it a lot

@silverminttt No, the patch for the brick floors and napalm ring is still coming. This (1.4.3) patch just brings Switch up to parity with the other consoles. It was sent down the certification pipeline at Nintendo before Christmas but during the holidays things take a little longer.

@Bran__Ian @Klomonx2 Well there was a bug in 1.4 (fixed in 1.4.3) that would cause the game to briefly hitch for a host player whenever a client would go down a level in the mines. But that should be fixed now. Could that be the issue you were experiencing?

@HamelinThomas3 This is actually not a dresser but a way for the host of the game to access your items when you are offline. It's necessary to prevent a non-host w/ important items on them preventing others from playing. Maybe the system can be improved in the future, b/c I agree it's annoying

PS4 Stardew Valley players... currently there is a bug on the PS4 version that prevents friends from joining your farm through the co op menu. However, if you invite them directly, they should still be able to play. A hotfix for this issue will be coming soon, hopefully tomorrow.

@TheAtlasKey I draw everything at smallest size. Then the game scales it up 4x, so that every 1 drawn pixel is 4 pixels wide on the screen. I use a 16x16 pixel tile size

@thandy1212 Yes that was intentional, so that it wasn't too easy to "cheese" the mines by jumping back and forth between levels. in single-player, exiting the mines and re-entering will always refresh it, but multiplayer can complicate that.
@kasserole7 Unless there's some "bug" in one of the ports that I'm unaware of, this is not true. I just checked the code on PC and the fruit stays the same size. Maybe they are playing with a mod that does this and they don't realize it's the mod?
@PanditaMisty Steam has a feature called "remote play" that allows you to stream some steam games (including Stardew Valley) from your desktop onto a mobile device. It works pretty well if you are on wifi and pair it with a controller.

@HarryMockenhau1 It all depends on how much experience you have and how big & complex the game is. It took me 4.5 years to make Stardew Valley, but before that I made some very small practice games that only took weeks or maybe a month
@pathamm98 Once you've coded the framework for items & crops, most of the work to add new ones is drawing the art and putting in the data (price, etc.). However, in order for new content to be fun it usually has to be part of a meaningful bigger-picture... that's where the real work is

@Manuel_TG there is actually an experimental way to play with more on PC. have the host open %appdata%/stardewvalley/startup_preferences and insert 6 into the list of tags. You can now play with 6 players. be aware not everything has been fully tested. enjoy!

@ProfHorseman Are you sure you can't change professions? If you can't on Xbox, it's a bug and the first I've ever heard of it. You don't unlock the ability to change professions until a ways into the game

@KatieCrochets The Mermaid Pendant is the custom in Stardew Valley, where Pelican Town is located. The farmers, being from the city, have a different custom (wedding rings), so when two farmers marry they use that instead.
@soul__adrift no, it means that if you have a newer (e.g. 1.4) save file, you can't open it in a earlier (e.g. 1.3) version of the game, which would likely lead to a crash. The reverse always works. Old save files can always be opened in newer versions of the game

@Steel_Battousai I don't want to give any date for the update, because I'd like to work on it without pressure. If you want to be a solo developer, I'd recommend starting with programming first. Then u can make games with whatever skill in art, design, and sound/music that you have. Then improve
