A switch back to the model of letting people create character before the league actual starts and have most people go through queue before the league starts would probably be a good idea in the future imo.
We are discussing that as an option as a result of the queue moving slower than expected today.

Why are the servers not prepared for a big expansion like this? There are 200k watching and more trying to play...
It's not a server issue that causes this. We do significantly expand our server capacity prior to a league launch.

That is what used to happen for race leagues. You could make characters 30 minutes beforehand and waiting for the race to say "go" to start. Is adding that to new leagues that hard? seems like this has been a consistent problem for years
