(2020) Dear Jagex: If You Don’t Have Time to Open a Formal Investigation in to Frontline’s recorded harassment and alleged DOXing/Hacking, the Cambridge police can do it for you.

This thread was added on May 18, 2020, with posts from JagexSween.

Original Post

And remember, everyone, [email protected]

(Edit 3): Apparently, Frontline had a lot to do with getting someone temp banned for boxing in this tournament. They're actively PRAISING Jagex. What an absolute fucking joke. Link: https://twitter.com/Frontline_RS/status/1261026766925242369

Tl;dr:

*The clan needs to be DQ’d

*Every player in that video should be suspended. Not perma’d but suspended until it’s investigated. That’s why I said “allegedly”.

*Jagex needs to open an investigation in to the incident

*Information should be passed to law enforcement If their Legal team decides there’s reason to do so.

What the Frontline members did in the clip posted goes beyond “banter” and “lol oh clans are so toxic”. They self-incriminated themselves on CRIMINAL harassment, and it is unacceptable to do anything outside of DQ’ing the whole clan, suspending the accounts of everyone in the video, conducting a formal investigation, and then passing information to law enforcement as your legal department advises.

And if you’re just too small of an indie studio to do what literally any company should and would do (/s), then the Cambridge police have a tip line that you can use to report that you need support from them.

Your inaction on what is a literal crime can not and will not be tolerated. You DQ’d people for literally boxing a few years ago, but apparently doxing is fine. If you do not make a swift and decisive response to this incident, you are publicly broadcasting that you’re willing to let ANYTHING slide. And that’s fucking stupid.

(Edit): for those interested, here’s the clip

Thanks to /u/GoToSleepJoyful for posting it.

(Edit 2): I found this Tweet Frontline put out a few days ago. In it, someone gets in to a rival clan’s team speak after someone in the rival clan got banned. Just listen to the way they BOTH talk. The rival clan literally says “your whole family’s gonna die”.

UPDATE, RESPONSE FROM FRONTLINE BELOW:

Frontline just posted this to Twitter:

"No shock to anyone, the clan we've MEME'D FOR TWO YEARS (who know VERY WELL they cannot compete against us) have tried to use the Reddit Platform to bring us down after we RIDICULED their DMMT Allies and Clan Members! Here's the AUDIO to prove it too! They're out of options!" Link: https://twitter.com/Frontline_RS/status/1262179849281601538

Dear Frontline: Imagine being so delusional and out of touch with reality to think that just because someone called you out for your disgusting, childish bullshit that you think it's another clan. Seeing as you've somehow forgotten, people do in fact exist outside of your echo chamber. Your clan's behavior as well as your dismissal of it is childish, immature, and I can't wait for you to get hammered.

And remember, everyone, [email protected]

This is unacceptable behaviour, and it's not welcome in our game. We're investigating and we'll take action.

It's massively important that players report these things in-game so we're made aware of what's happening, and then we can investigate and take action accordingly. We can't emphasise how strongly we need you to report these things in-game.

For some additional context, the incident being referenced in this thread was not reported in-game and wouldn't have come to light unless images or video footage emerged like they did here.

I'd like to clarify a few other things raised in this thread. Not in terms of this specific incident, but just generally on the subject of toxicity, reports, and investigation:

"Every player in that video should be suspended."

We aren't going to take action against accounts before an investigation concludes. Images or video can be doctored. I'm not saying it has in this situation, but it's why we can't take these things simply at face value.

"Your inaction on what is a literal crime can not and will not be tolerated."

We proactively identify and work with law enforcement agencies when it comes to extremely serious incidents where we have due reason to believe there's a major risk, like real world threats of violence or child protection issues. Players who are subject to other real-world crimes need to call the police and we will then cooperate fully with their investigations. I think sometimes there needs to be an honest understanding of the time it takes to flag, react, and respond. Office hours are a thing, and we then need to align on a stance and a response.

That's not saying we don't have out of hours monitoring, but that's largely for massively escalation-worthy things like serious game bugs, issues affecting the game worlds. I'm not trying to downplay what's appearing in this thread (and others), but it doesn't fall into that criteria.

_Ross-

Thanks, Mod Sween. I'm interested to see what results from this.

I don't envisage us sharing the results of this specific incident (we don't tell you about specific accounts we ban or mute or disqualify etc), but I'm very hopeful this will help instigate a change in approach to how we look at toxicity in the game.

It's massively important that players use the in-game report feature

This is honestly news to me. I thought in RL the report button is changed a timer for a reason: because the timer is actually useful.

I think I can speak for most when I say we've given up thinking it helps. Jagex should do address our lack of faith in the game's built-in report system. If we think it works, we'd use it.

Hey, that's a perfectly valid bit of feedback there. And addressing your lack of faith in the report system was something that we discussed a lot today.

Thank you Sween.

I hope to see Jagex's official response be made public, and that people who act like this are made an example of for the rest of the game. This nonsense needs to stop, and I appreciate your response.

I replied to a similar comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/glfy2z/dear_jagex_if_you_dont_have_time_to_open_a_formal/fr1qou3?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

Thank you for your detailed and involved post. First thing in the week too. Mondays must suck for PR.

I think PR probably enjoy their Mondays. Me in Community Management however...

Jokes aside, there's no right time for this, and we won't ever moan about having to deal with it. Problems are there to be solved. We want to give you the best possible experience, and that goes beyond just game content.

nickasummers

the incident being referenced in this thread was not reported in-game

Hold on, do people really not report shit? Why do they think the report button is there if not to, like, report things? No wonder people get away with shit if nobody is reporting it!

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the players. I think it's like u/Glum_Reaper said...

I think I can speak for most when I say we've given up thinking it [the report abuse button] helps. Jagex should do address our lack of faith in the game's built-in report system. If we think it works, we'd use it.
