(2018) It’s deck-code-bot’s birthday!

This thread was added on June 13, 2018, with posts from mdonais.

Original Post

Today marks the first birthday of deck-code-bot! In celebration, I’ve collected statistics for the past year and collected them into some interesting charts and tables. Get ready!

deck-code-bot comment counts across all subreddits, year 1

For the chart above, I’m only counting actual decklist comments, not goofy ones like this one. As you can see, people are sharing deckstrings much more frequently right after expansion releases, though for some reason, K&C release didn’t generate as much deck-sharing excitement despite how powerful the set was at release.

Overall, as of June 9 (when I stopped collecting data for this post), there have been 4974 deck-code-bot replies across these five subreddits:

Subreddit Count
hearthstone 2243
wildhearthstone 876
CompetitiveHS 1714
TheHearth 138
Gimmickstone 3

Let’s take a quick look at the popularity of each class, along with the most expensive decks (dust-wise) for each class:

Class Total Decks Shared Most Expensive
Druid 496 22280
Hunter 535 20880
Priest 705 26900
Mage 506 21860
Paladin 644 17820
Shaman 387 18840
Rogue 615 35940
Warlock 615 24480
Warrior 383 19800

(Okay, okay, you got me. This Tirion party is technically the most expensive paladin deck shared, tied with this beauty. The one above is third place.)

Now for some news! Deck-code-bot was actually my very first python project, and I was a self-taught amateur programmer, so, well, the code is genuinely awful. Just a real mess. And maintaining it has been a bit of a chore every time we get an expansion or a round of nerfs. I’m going to be rewriting it and improving on it this year, branching out to non-English-speaking HS subreddits, implementing downvote-to-delete, and other changes.

I also want to give big thanks to /u/Adys at HSReplay/HearthSim for offering to host deck-code-bot going forward and also providing a ton of guidance and support, as well as to /u/turikk for hosting the bot for the past year. Thanks to everyone who has used the bot and given it an upvote or a “Good bot”, and the people who take time out of their day to send me a PM when they notice a bug! And of course, thank you /u/deck-code-bot, who just keeps chugging along. AAEBAaoIBJruAtoP/esCqKsCDbsDwg6fA96CA4CvAsrLAvUIjeYCgugCvPECmsIC48ICjc4CAA==
